British American Tobacco has an exciting opportunity for an External Affairs Manager to join our team in Nairobi.
The succesful candidate for this position will
Monitor and interpret international developments that influence national regulatory, fiscal and trade policies, and create positions and advocacy to support engagement, ensuring alignment with Regional/Global priorities
Actively participate in the strategy development and decision-making processes within ECAA in the field of regulatory & fiscal affairs
Develop and implement strategies, initiatives and plans to promote a sensible fiscal regulatory framework for tobacco with government and relevant regulatory bodies
Coordinate regulatory, fiscal and trade bloc management and engagement campaigns in the Area
Principal Accountabilities
5-10 years of relevant experience
Understand business priorities, actively monitoring the external environment for regulatory & fiscal developments at a global, regional and are/local level
Analyse and interpret the regulatory & fiscal developments and inform the business, on an ongoing basis and in a timely manner, of any relevant developments
Explain and build understanding in the business of different regulatory and excise scenarios
Develop and coordinate the implementation of engagement campaigns at an Area level concerning tobacco control measures, tax structures, trade blocs and other non-governmental organisations initiatives
Provide effective and timely support through the development of supporting advocacy, positions, communications materials and reporting mechanisms
Undertake stakeholder engagement to promote the development of sensible regulatory and fiscal frameworks for tobacco amongst Government and regulatory authorities in the Area
Coordinate the Area pricing review meeting
Ensure compliance with Group policies, positions and standards

Provide direction and focus on regulation, excise and trade blocs across ECAA
Develop strategies and approaches to support corporate goals whilst managing business and reputational risk
Functional Competencies
Clear and compelling written and verbal communication skills
In depth knowledge of regulatory, pricing, excise and trade bloc issues
Strong ability to analyse and interpret the operating environment including political dynamics, sectoral regulatory trends (e.g., FCTC) and societal expectations in order to prioritise and agree realistic objectives
Proven ability to develop and execute engagement campaigns/plans and influence stakeholders
Effective management of external agencies as required
