Environmental Health Manager

Objective of the Position:

Planning, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring all Environmental Health activities in the project related to Water, Hygiene, Sanitation and Vector Control, according to MSF protocols and standards to ensure an optimal running of the project tasks & responsibilities:

She/he will perform the following main tasks, among others:

In collaboration with the Project Coordinator and the PMR, planning, elaborating and reviewing the annual budget for EH activities in order to identify and give a response to the needs of the mission and the targeted population.
Monitoring on a day-to-day basis the implementation of the EH activities in the project ensuring compliance of MSF standards, protocols and procedures, and reporting to the Project Coordinator on the development of the ongoing programmes. Responsible for leading and implementing all environmental health and safety (EHS) programs and initiatives within KERSO. This includes ensuring compliance with local regulations, national standards, and MSF OCB policies. The incumbent will play a critical role in promoting a safe and healthy working environment for all staff and minimizing the organization’s environmental impact.
In collaboration with the Emergency Response coordinator, PMR and the HRCoordinator, participating in the planning and implementation of HR-associated processes (recruitment, training, briefing/debriefing, evaluation, detection of potential, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required to correctly perform all EH activities pertaining to his area.
Providing technical support to the medical team in identifying possible “risk factors” (e.g. behavioral practices, environmental sources of infection, and transmission routes) andofferssolutions for infection control. Actively contributing to the integration of EH activities in the medical intervention offering project proposals and work plans.
Ensuring proper collection and monitoring of EH data. Ensuring multidisciplinary data availability. Providing analysis of data and regular reporting of results (as requested by line management)
Together with ERC, PMR, and other KERSO (Kenya Emergency Response Support Office) polyvalent team members, analyze the Emergency situation and propose comprehensive action plan during Explo visit (+)/ rapid Intervention / Immediate Intervention. 7. In collaboration with Supply teams, review and update market assessments for EH items. 8. Review and adapt, in collaboration with the PMR/EMCO, EH activities during emergency response activities. 9. Design / take up innovative EH projects or Initiative in Line with the Mission Operations strategic vision and develop a strong networking activity.

The position holder may be asked to take up additional duties/ hold another position for purposesof Emergency Intervention.

Qualifications

Education: Degree in Civil & Structural Engineering or Related educational background
Experience: Essential at least two years of hands on experience in WASH in emergencies. Desirable experience in or familiar with implementing and promoting the use of two or moreof thefollowing activities (water supply, excreta disposal, waste and waste water management, vector control management) in two or more different contexts (conflicts, natural disasters, refugee/IDP camps, etc.) Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs, and working experience in developing countries
