Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Production and Extension) – (1) POST

For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

be a professor and a holder of an earned PhD degree from a recognized university;
have at least eight (8) years progressive experience at senior level in a university; or equivalent institution with evident leadership and management capacity;
have held senior administrative posts such as Principal of a College/Campus, Director/Dean of Faculty, School or Institute/Campus in a University recognized in Kenya;
have supervised and mentored students in Masters and PhD degree programmes addition to being an accomplished scholar with a proven track record in continuing research and publication on pertinent contemporary issues;
have thorough knowledge in the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering university education in Kenya;
have excellent understanding of major trends in national and international education and training and broad awareness of the major factors influencing the development of university education;
have a demonstrable experience of transformative leadership;
posses a track record of success and performance characterized by vision and strategic thought, rapid growth and service delivery;
have demonstrable experience in networking and resource mobilization;
possess skills, capacity and determination to lead technology transfer functions of the university; and
be of high ethical standards, integrity and accountability and meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Production and Extension) will include:-
overseeing Research, Production and Extension Division of the University;
development and formulation of appropriate policies to promote research infrastructure, promotion and co-ordination of research, publication, production, innovation, extension and technology transfer portfolio programme;
mobilization of resources for research, innovation and production through fundraising activities from industry, government institutions and donor organizations;
development, maintenance and promotion of collaboration and linkages with both local and international institutions of higher learning;
promotion and coordination of income generating units (IGU’s) and competence centres;
undertaking monitoring and evaluation of all research and innovation activities in the university;
co-ordinating of workshops, seminars and outreach programmes;
promotion and dissemination of knowledge to meet the needs of the university and community;
negotiations and management of research contracts and consultancies; and
any other duties and responsibilities as may be delegated by the Vice Chancellor or the university Council.
