    Background

    UN Women is looking for language experts to provide translation and interpretation services from French-English-French and English-Portuguese-English or vice versa for programme reports, press releases/statements, speech, features, audio/video interviews and other important documents including the policy and guidelines, requests from CO to RO as and when required basis. UN Women RO intends to establish a Retainer SSA contract with the selected candidates for at least one-year period. The service is required occasionally and only for a specified period.
    Duties and Responsibilities
    The consultants will work under the overall supervision of the Communication Specialist, and direct supervision of Thematic Leads in request of interpretation and translation services.
    Scope of the Work
    A professional, accurate and fast translation service from English to French, English to Portuguese and vice versa such that the meaning and understanding of each principles and analysis presented in the documents reflect their true sense.
    Main Tasks and Responsibilities of Translator/Interpreter:

    Provide simultaneous interpretation services for UN Women meetings/events
    Translate knowledge products from French to English, Portuguese to English and vice-versa.
    Transcribe and translate documents on a need basis.
    Ensure accuracy in language, structure, and rhetoric expressions.
    As part of translation, word choice, style, sentence structure, comprehension, and terminologies are checked intensively, and the content is fine-tuned to achieve native English, Portuguese and French expression.

    Experience

    A minimum of five (5) years of experience in interpretation/translation, writing, editing, self-revision, proofreading and/or production editing is required. Out of the aforementioned five (5) years, three (3) years of experience working within a multilingual setting is desirable.
    Three (3) years of interpretation/translation/editing/writing experience for the UN system or other international organization is preferred.

    Languages:

    Fluency in English and French is required.
    Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.

    Photo-assignment in the Coffee sector

    You are an experienced photographer based in Kenya. Here is an assignment to work alongside the International Trade Centre (ITC) in taking photographs and writing short descriptions of the work of a series of coffee producers. The goal of the assignment is to take attractive photos of the coffee production, people and communities of around 10 such coffee producers. The output will be used to complete websites and in social media to promote the coffees toward international buyers.
    Deliverables
    For each coffee SME:

    At least 30 high quality photos, taken using a digital SLR camera (or superior) of at least 12 MP (native, no up-sampling)

    Photos must show a subject of interest, be in good light and have a good composition

    At least 3 explanatory sentences for each photo
    At least 1 interview of at least 150 words with a representative of the coffee producer (preferably the owner or manager)
    One short video (2-3 minutes) per company – to be confirmed –

    Steps

    Attend a short briefing with ITC’s consultant
    Organise photo RDV’s with assistance of local consultant (marketing coach and/or national coordinator)

    Background

    The Volunteer Services Centre (VSC) is responsible for providing timely and high-quality services in the sourcing, identification and recruitment of UN Volunteers, as well as in the implementation of the Conditions of Service of volunteers, and the management of payroll, service desk and special initiatives for volunteers and UN entities globally. VSC works in close collaboration with relevant sections at headquarters, as well as with Regional Offices and Field Units to ensure seamless and consolidated services in accordance with regulations and rules, pertinent policies and internal procedures.

    Reporting to the Operations Associate, Talent Acquisition, the Operations Associate, Volunteer Management and Inclusion coordinates and provides support for volunteer management services for fully funded UN Volunteers, including Inclusion and Special Volunteer Initiatives. She/he also contributes to focused outreach efforts to strengthen partnerships with Full Funding (FF) programme donors to feed UNV’s talent pool.

    Duties And Responsibilities

    Provision of volunteer management services for fully funded UN Volunteers and/or those serving under Special Volunteer Initiatives (SVI)

    Coordinate with Regional Offices and Field Units the development of the Descriptions of Assignments in line with the requirements of donors or SVI partners;
    Act as an interface between VSC and the donors/SVI partners on issues related to recruitment and volunteer management;
    Closely monitor FF or SVI assignments at every stage and provide specific information to donors upon request;
    Provide volunteer management services encompassing the full cycle of volunteers’ engagement, from initial attraction through deployment and separation, in adherence to established regulations and policies;
    Support diversity and inclusion services provision by guiding the design of inclusive assignments, the assessment of candidate and host entity needs, and the assignment management;
    Guide UN Volunteers, their host entities and donors on Conditions of Service, as well as on the volunteer management cycle, and specific requirements of the FF, Inclusion and SVI programmes, and prepare relevant briefs and guidance notes, as required;
    Contribute to the improvement of systems and workflows identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions to streamline processes. Alert on deficiencies or risks and escalate related issues to direct supervisor’s consideration;
    Liaise with Regional Offices and Field Units to look into special situations and to follow up on FF, inclusion and SVI assignments. Provide guidance on applicable regulations, rules and policies to ensure full compliance with accountability framework;
    Provide support to developing and regularly adjusting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to facilitate compliance with FF donors’ reporting requirements.

    FF donors’ and Host Entities’ relationship management support

    Act as the partner focal point for the implementation of the FF agreements and SVIs. In this regard, the incumbent works in close collaboration with the External Relations and Communications Section, Regional Offices and New York Office;
    Support preparation of individual volunteer reports and annual reports for the submission to FF donors;
    Support monitoring of project budgets in line with specific partner priorities and plan for the best utilization of the funds in close coordination with the Finance and Budget Section and the External Relations and Communications Section;

    Liaise with other team members in the Volunteer Services Centre, Regional Offices and Field Units to keep abreast of evolving demand for UN Volunteers requested under FF programmes, inclusion and special volunteer initiatives;
    Provide operational input to the preparation of FF and SVI agreements, in close coordination with the External Relations and Communications Section, Regional Offices and New York Office;
    Prepare and disseminate information and reports related to FF and SVI UN Volunteers as required;

    Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing

    Provide inputs to the design of training materials and corporate activities towards building the inclusive recruitment and volunteer management capacity of colleagues in VSC and at the regional and country level;

    In Kenya, the UN Women Country Programme contributes to the development objectives of Kenya’s blueprint, the Vision 2030, the SDGs particularly, SDG 5 and is aligned to the United Nations Development Assistance Frameworks (UNDAF) 2018-2022 as well as UN Women Global Strategic Plan. The Kenya Country Programme – “Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Gains Consolidated’ – aims to achieve the following results: (i) Increased women’s leadership and participation in governance; (ii) Strengthened women’s economic empowerment; (iii) Increased protection of women against gender-based violence & access to justice for women; and (iv) Strengthened women’s leadership in peace building and humanitarian response.

    The Women’s Economic Empowerment programme in Kenya Country Office focus on two key areas: a) Climate Resilient Agriculture with focus on closing the gender gap in agriculture by supporting women farmers in the agriculture value chain to enhance their resilience to climate change and increase agricultural productivity; and b) Access to Markets /Procurement opportunities for women entrepreneurs, with focus on supporting government and private sector companies to implement, monitor and report on affirmative procurement policy, and supporting women owned businesses to be competitive.

    As part of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme, UN Women and FAO with support from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will be implementing a 4-year Joint Programme on “Economic Empowerment of Women Through Climate-Smart Agriculture” in three arid and semi-arid (ASAL) counties of Kitui, Laikipia and West Pokot.

    Reporting to the Deputy Country Director, the Programme Analyst, Women’s Economic Empowerment is responsible for managing the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Country Office WEE programme, with special focus on the climate smart agriculture programme. The functions include providing technical support, overseeing and guiding people, budget management, building partnerships and providing support in resource mobilization, and managing knowledge building efforts.

    Duties And Responsibilities

    Contribute technically to the development of programme strategies in the area of Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) in Kenya

    Provide substantive inputs to the design and formulation of programme/ project proposals and initiatives
    Support to translate the priorities of the Strategic Note into programme interventions in WEE;
    Draft inputs to country strategy documents, briefs, policy dialogue and other documents related to WEE;
    Identify areas for support and interventions within the areas of WEE;
    Review and evaluate partners proposals;

    Provide Substantive Technical support to the implementation and management of WEE programme

    Provide technical inputs to the annual workplan and budget;
    Lead the implementation of programme activities;

    Develop background documents, briefs and presentations related to WEE;
