"UN Women advances gender equality globally."
In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly established UN Women, the United Nations entity dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women. This landmark initiative represented a pivotal advancement in the Organization’s efforts to achieve these critical objectives. The establishment of UN Women emerged as a key component of the UN’s reform agenda, consolidating resources and mandates to enhance effectiveness. It amalgamated and expanded upon the vital work of four previously separate UN system entities, each previously focused solely on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
