About Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice

The Office represents the national Government in all legal proceedings, including civil litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution, acting as the Government’s legal representative. It oversees legal matters concerning public trusts, the administration of estates and trusts, and ensures compliance with relevant regulations.

Additionally, the Office negotiates, drafts, and reviews local and international instruments, treaties, and agreements on behalf of the Government and its institutions. It also adjudicates complaints against practicing advocates, firms, or their employees and, where necessary, initiates disciplinary action.

The Office drafts bills, subsidiary legislation, appointment notices for state corporations and constitutional/public offices, and conducts reviews of existing laws. It further oversees legal matters related to the registration of companies, business names, societies, adoptions, and marriages.
