"Global leader in news and discussion broadcasting."
The BBC World Service stands as the world’s largest international broadcaster, delivering radio and television news, commentary, and discussions across 29 languages to global audiences through analog and digital shortwave, internet streaming, podcasts, satellite, FM, and medium wave relays. In a landmark expansion unveiled in November 2016, it introduced programming in languages including Igbo, Nigerian Pidgin, Yoruba, and Amharic—the most significant growth initiative since the 1940s. By 2015, the service was reaching an average weekly audience of 210 million people across television, radio, and digital platforms, while its English-language service operates around the clock.
