Verify prescription details to confirm their correctness and appropriateness, then liaise with prescribing physicians to address any discrepancies, ensuring the safe, cost-effective, and appropriate utilization of medications and other pharmaceutical products.

Monitor patient responses to therapeutic interventions, evaluate the interplay between medications and disease states, and carefully assess prescribed drugs for their intended indications.

Investigate and document any undesirable or unintended effects observed in patients following medication administration.

Conduct ongoing clinical reviews of treatment sheets and prescriptions to verify the appropriateness of treatments, the absence of drug interactions, and the accuracy of dosing, ensuring all prescribed medications are administered as directed.

Engage actively in the drug inventory management cycle, including requisitioning supplies, receiving deliveries from storage facilities, and promptly placing items on shelves. Conduct regular stock assessments—daily, random, and quarterly—and reconcile any discrepancies to maintain accurate inventory records.

Handle all pharmaceutical matters that demand resolution, including managing drug pricing, tracking patient credits, and overseeing the replacement of damaged or expired inventory.

Verify pharmacy drug expiration dates and promptly return any medications approaching expiry to the store in strict adherence to the Short Expiry Drug Policy.

Ensure all extemporaneous preparations and ward solutions are accurately prepared and clearly labeled for both inpatient and outpatient use.

Collaborate in developing and executing hospital policies regarding medication utilization and pharmacy standard operating procedures.

Engage actively in ward pharmacy services in accordance with the established Hospital policy.

Engage in the preparation and reconstitution of chemotherapy agents while strictly adhering to established cytotoxic safety protocols and guidelines.

Ensure the provision of patient counseling and informational resources, including patient information leaflets, to all in-patients and outpatients as necessary.

Maintain ongoing communication with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya, the Ministry of Health, and other relevant professional organizations to ensure the department remains informed about all emerging advancements in the pharmaceutical sector.
