Research planning and design involves developing structured methodologies to systematically investigate and address specific objectives or hypotheses. This process includes defining clear research questions, selecting appropriate methodologies, designing experimental frameworks, and ensuring ethical compliance. Strong analytical, organizational, and technical skills are essential, along with proficiency in data analysis tools and research design software. As the central research project leader for the four-year Sexual and Reproductive Health Randomized Controlled Trial (SRH RCT) program, you will establish the strategic vision and oversee all research activities to ensure alignment with project objectives, the approved study protocol, IMPACT research cycle standards, and donor specifications.
Oversee the design and enhancement of annual data collection cycles, encompassing both quantitative (survey-based) methods and qualitative approaches (such as in-depth interviews and focus group discussions), while maintaining methodological precision and alignment with the RCT framework in both country settings.
To ensure contextual relevance, adapt data collection instruments—including quantitative questionnaires and qualitative discussion guides—for each round of data collection, overseeing their translation, cultural alignment, and pilot testing prior to implementation in Somalia and South Sudan.
Before the initiation of every data collection cycle, all research designs, tools, and protocols must undergo validation by IMPACT HQ and the appropriate ethics bodies.
Conducting research implementation involves executing and overseeing projects to ensure they align with established objectives and methodologies. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, as well as developing actionable insights to inform strategic decisions. Candidates must possess a proven track record in research methodologies, proficiency in relevant tools or software, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, data-driven results. Strong communication skills are essential for presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Deliver strategic direction and technical support to in-country teams operating in Somalia and South Sudan, who function as the primary leads for data collection within their respective contexts, with responsibility for guiding enumerator recruitment and training initiatives, establishing field supervision protocols, and implementing robust quality assurance systems.
Design and implement robust quality assurance frameworks tailored to each data collection round, incorporating back-check protocols, data audit procedures, and real-time monitoring of data quality indicators to maintain uniform standards across both countries.
Design and deliver enumerator training programs for every data collection cycle in close collaboration with in-country teams, guaranteeing all enumerators possess the necessary skills to implement quantitative surveys and qualitative data collection instruments accurately in alignment with the study protocol.
Ensure strict adherence to IMPACT Data Management Guidelines, relevant data protection regulations, and the ethical standards outlined in the study protocol throughout the collection, storage, and management of all data.
You will oversee the data collection process in both countries, proactively detecting and addressing challenges or deviations from established methodologies, and escalating any unresolved issues to the line manager and IMPACT HQ as necessary.
We are seeking a skilled professional to perform data analysis and compile product drafts. This role involves examining datasets to identify trends, insights, and actionable recommendations, as well as drafting clear, concise, and well-researched product documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience in data interpretation, report generation, and creating structured product briefs or specifications. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in relevant tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, or data visualization software) are required. Additionally, the ability to communicate complex findings in an accessible manner is essential.
We are responsible for evaluating or assisting with the analysis and deliverables prepared by our research collaborators.
Conduct additional ad hoc analysis and provide support to the South Sudan and Somalia missions, or to broader Horn of Africa and East Africa regional initiatives, to enhance analytical capabilities and strengthen regional operations.

Act as the main point of contact for the donor regarding IMPACT initiatives, delivering consistent updates on research advancements, key milestones, obstacles faced, and insights gained throughout both country programs.
Serve as the primary point of contact for donor reports and research updates, guaranteeing their precision, clarity, and timely submission while accurately representing the contributions of both the Somalia and South Sudan in-country teams.
Convene periodic project review sessions with the donor and essential collaborators, developing and curating presentations and supporting documentation to foster informed strategic discussions regarding preliminary insights, study modifications, and their ramifications for program implementation.
Develop and sustain robust collaborative partnerships with implementing partners across Somalia and South Sudan, guaranteeing seamless alignment between research initiatives and partner programs while maximizing the impact and utility of findings through strategic dissemination.
Knowledge generation and learning entail the systematic acquisition, analysis, and dissemination of insights to drive organizational growth and innovation. This process involves identifying key trends, synthesizing data, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. REQUIREMENTS
Essential
Ideal candidates will possess strong academic credentials, ideally including a Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Science, Development Studies, or a closely related field.
A minimum of four years of professional experience in humanitarian or development research and programming is required, with a distinct preference for candidates who have worked in Somalia and/or South Sudan. Experience overseeing long-term, multi-country research initiatives is highly advantageous.
Proven expertise in sexual and reproductive health within humanitarian or fragile settings, with a strong focus on maternal health, family planning, and gender-based violence interventions.
Experienced professionals with a track record in designing and overseeing mixed-methods research cycles, particularly within humanitarian or low-resource contexts, are sought. Candidates with direct expertise in randomized control trial (RCT) design and execution will be prioritized, while familiarity with longitudinal study designs and multiphase data collection processes is especially advantageous.
Fluent proficiency in both written and spoken English is required. Proven capacity to develop comprehensive research reports, donor updates, briefs, and presentations tailored to varied audiences, ranging from technical experts to general stakeholders.
Demonstrates a strong capacity to operate autonomously while offering guidance and mentorship to geographically dispersed research teams, in addition to effectively managing intricate, multi-stakeholder research initiatives.
Proven capability to navigate and thrive in multicultural settings, particularly within intricate security environments. Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with indigenous research teams and engaging with community stakeholders across varied geographical locations.
Proficiency in developing quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments using platforms such as KoboCollect, OK, or comparable systems is essential.

Proficiency in Somalia and/or South Sudan is required, with a strong grasp of the humanitarian coordination framework and major stakeholders in each setting.
Proficiency in leading or managing research initiatives involving vulnerable groups such as displaced individuals, women, girls, and adolescents is required, along with a comprehensive understanding of ethical guidelines applicable to research in humanitarian contexts.

This role offers a monthly salary ranging from 2,580 to 2,640 CHF (gross, before tax), along with a living allowance of 300 USD. NB – IMPACT ensures compensation aligns strictly with its established salary framework, which considers both the position’s classification and the employee’s educational background. Additionally, a location-based security and/or isolation adjustment is applied to acknowledge the challenging living and working conditions in certain duty stations.
Accommodation will be provided in the guesthouse, or a housing allowance will be granted for assignments of extended duration.
Swiss private pension fund enrollment (Swiss Life) is provided, covering approximately 9.975% of the employee’s gross salary, along with comprehensive health insurance, life insurance coverage, and repatriation assistance.
Flight tickets and visa fees are provided every six months, with all in-country travel expenses and professional costs fully reimbursed.
The amount of luggage transported can range from 20 to 100 kilograms, contingent upon the duration of the contract, and includes coverage for luggage and personal belongings through insurance.
You will receive 36 days of annual leave each year, in addition to all public holidays observed in the country of your assignment. Family or compassionate leave will also be provided where applicable.
Predeparture induction will consist of a three-day program at IMPACT Initiatives’ headquarters in Geneva, followed by a week-long pre-departure training hosted at ACTED’s headquarters in Paris, which will include an intensive four-day in-person security training session.
