BACKGROUND
The goal of this project is to document the story of Shenzhen’s development. It will closely look into the role of spatial planning in its economic achievements, as well as current issues related to its role in the global economy and status as a global scientific and technological powerhouse.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Branch Coordinator, Urban Economy and Finance Branch, the consultant will be responsible for the following tasks and outputs:
Prepare the implementation plan of the project
Assist in contacting the selected authors
Assist the project team with the coordination of upcoming missions to Shenzhen
Plan for the two project workshops in Shenzhen and Nairobi
Organizing the draft and final version of the Shenzhen publication
Assist in the launching of the Shenzhen publication in New York
Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor

EDUCATION
The consultant must have an advanced degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, engineering, management, environment or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
The consultant should have experience in the following areas:
Minimum of 2 years work experience in project implementation and development
Previous working experience in international development agencies or the United Nations is desirable and will be an added advantage
Demonstrated experience in working with local governments and in developing countries
Previous working experience in the areas of urban economic development and municipal finance.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in oral and written English and Chinese is required.
REMUNERATION
Payments will be based on deliverables over the consultancy period. There are set remuneration rates for consultancies. The rate is determined by functions performed and experience of the consultant. The fees will be paid as per agreement.
