Daily verification of available equipment inventory must be conducted to confirm operational readiness, with any malfunctions promptly reported to the Bio-Medical Technician or Unit Manager for resolution.
Ensure the financial sustainability and growth trajectory of the unit by implementing strategic initiatives and monitoring performance metrics to achieve long-term profitability and expansion.

To achieve financial objectives, oversee expense management within allocated budgets while ensuring prompt and precise invoicing for medications and services rendered. Maintain an invoice rejection rate below 3% by verifying that all necessary pre-authorizations and documentation are completed accurately.
Verify compliance with Avenue’s corporate governance policies to maintain adherence and alignment with established standards.
Proactively identify, investigate, and escalate any instances of fraudulent behavior or illegal conduct for thorough review and resolution.
Collaborate closely with the Head Nurse to ensure full integration of internal audit recommendations, thereby achieving favorable audit outcomes in future assessments.
Read, interpret, and apply all systems, policies, and procedures detailed in the Hospital Manual, with particular emphasis on those governing the delivery of medical services—including admission and discharge protocols, nursing documentation, ward equipment and supply management, and emergency response guidelines.
Maintain a comprehensive log of all sentinel incidents or events and submit the corresponding reports within a 24-hour timeframe using the designated reporting tools.
Ensure adherence to infection control protocols as outlined in the hospital manual while implementing the necessary infection control bundles, including SSI, VAP, CACTI, and CLA BSI, as appropriate.
Supervise patient attendants in accordance with their assigned job duties and responsibilities.
Engage proactively during ward rounds and obtain comprehensive handover reports from the outgoing nurse at the end of each shift.
Assess the patient’s goals of care in consultation with the next of kin to ensure alignment with their preferences and values.
The responsibilities include maintaining accurate records and securely safeguarding patients’ personal valuables at all times.
Accurate documentation of patient records and thorough review are essential, along with collaboration with fellow clinicians and consultants as required.

Adhere rigorously to the six International Patient Safety Goals (Ipsus) to uphold patient safety, including accurate patient identification, clear and effective communication, proper administration of high-alert medications, ensuring correct procedure and surgical site verification, implementing measures to minimize healthcare-associated infections, and mitigating fall risks to prevent patient harm.
Educate patients and their families on health-related matters to enhance their understanding and promote informed decision-making.
A documented nursing care plan is developed to systematically prioritize patient needs, ensuring comprehensive and individualized care delivery.
The emergency trolley must be meticulously organized to ensure immediate accessibility during resuscitation efforts, with all drugs and supplies fully stocked and any damaged equipment promptly removed and reported. A comprehensive checklist should be maintained and updated on the 1st and 16th of each month, as well as whenever necessary.
Upon receipt, promptly notify doctors and consultants regarding patient progress and any critical results to ensure timely clinical intervention and informed decision-making.
Deliver all invasive nursing procedures utilizing meticulous aseptic technique to ensure patient safety and infection control.
Daily, unit-specific data must be entered accurately and without delay. This responsibility ensures that all information is current and readily available for review and analysis.
All relevant consultants must thoroughly explain the procedures and secure consent from the necessary parties before proceeding.
Prior to any procedures, including those in theater, radiology, and renal units, ensure all official patient checklists are completed in full.
Maintain strict adherence to patient privacy and confidentiality protocols, in accordance with established policies.
Ensure proper administration of medications in accordance with prescribed dosages, schedules, and protocols.
Adhere rigorously to the ten fundamental principles of medication administration, ensuring the correct patient receives the appropriate medication, in the precise dosage, via the designated route, at the scheduled time, with accurate documentation, client education, thorough assessment, and evaluation, while also respecting the client’s right to refuse treatment.
Please ensure that all new medication orders are submitted to the pharmacy in a timely manner, with STAT doses administered within 30 minutes of receipt.
Ensure the secure storage of D.D.A. drugs and maintain an accurate drug register in compliance with unit-specific requirements.
All unused medications must be refunded without delay upon request or as soon as they are no longer required.
All verbal prescriptions must be countersigned by the authorized physician within 24 hours in accordance with hospital protocol.
Demonstrates adherence to the Nursing Council of Kenya’s established protocols and ethical standards for delivering high-quality patient care and treatment.
Client satisfaction—spanning patients, consultants, and other stakeholders—is prioritized by delivering exceptional care quality, fostering clear communication, providing prompt feedback, and escalating unresolved matters to the Unit Manager. Follow-up actions and continuous improvement initiatives are consistently implemented to address and resolve concerns effectively.

Person Specification
Holders of a Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing are eligible to apply for this position.
A Higher Diploma in Neonatal or Pediatric Critical Care Nursing, specifically in NICU or PICK settings, is an essential qualification.
A current and valid license from the Nursing Council of Kenya is required.
Maintain current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), as well as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLAS).
A minimum of two years of hands-on experience as a NICU or PICK Nurse is required.
