Job Purpose:
Reporting directly to the Head of Employee Relations, Performance & Wellness, this position is tasked with assisting in the development and implementation of people strategies aimed at fostering a workplace that is equitable, diverse, and motivating.
This role encompasses enhancing employee engagement, guaranteeing adherence to legal standards, overseeing performance evaluations, and fostering a values-driven organizational culture.
Oversee and execute a range of critical duties, including managing project timelines, coordinating team efforts, and ensuring adherence to organizational goals; conduct thorough research to identify innovative solutions; maintain accurate records and documentation to support decision-making processes; facilitate communication between departments to align strategies and optimize performance; monitor progress and address any deviations promptly to uphold efficiency and quality standards.
Employee Relations: Responsible for fostering a positive and productive work environment by addressing employee concerns, resolving conflicts, and promoting workplace harmony. Duties include conducting investigations into grievances, mediating disputes, and ensuring compliance with company policies and labor laws. Collaborates with HR and management to develop strategies that enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention. Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion. Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with a deep understanding of employment regulations and best practices in employee relations.
Assist in formulating, clarifying, and disseminating HR policies in accordance with Kenyan Labour Laws, applicable regulatory mandates, and the Bank’s established values and governance frameworks.
Oversee employee relations functions, encompassing disciplinary actions, grievance resolution, workplace behavior concerns, and appeal processes, while upholding fairness, consistency, and adherence to organizational policies and regulatory standards.
Maintain precise and verifiable records of employee relations cases in coordination with HR Business Partners and line management, ensuring adherence to record-keeping and compliance standards.
Drive organizational transformation efforts, including restructures and branch realignments, while maintaining employee engagement, operational stability, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Deliver prompt and actionable advice to managers to ensure equitable, uniform, and regulation-compliant management of employee issues, thereby reducing operational and reputational risks.
Serve as a panel member during disciplinary hearings, upholding due process, procedural fairness, and meticulous documentation in accordance with established internal policies and relevant labor regulations.
Oversee interactions with employee representatives and workplace committees, cultivating open dialogue, mutual trust, and cooperative efforts to uphold a productive and regulation-compliant workplace.
Maintain accurate and confidential disciplinary records by proficiently managing the ER tracker, ensuring the information remains readily available for audits and decision-making processes.
Assist in the regular assessment and revision of the HR Manual to maintain consistent adherence to employment laws, regulatory standards, and emerging trends in the banking industry.
Facilitates performance management processes to ensure employees meet organizational objectives through ongoing evaluations, feedback, and development initiatives. Establishes clear performance expectations, monitors progress, and conducts periodic assessments to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Collaborates with managers to align individual goals with company targets, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous growth. Implements performance improvement plans when necessary and recognizes high performers to drive engagement and retention.
Facilitate the organization and dissemination of performance review schedules and related communications.
Assist staff and supervisors in implementing the performance management system effectively.

The role involves facilitating the implementation of the Bank’s Employee Wellness Program, with a focus on meticulously coordinating wellness initiatives in alignment with the approved Wellness Calendar. Responsibilities include liaising with accredited wellness service providers, organizing program activities, fostering staff engagement, and maintaining prompt and professional communication to all employees.
Support strategic inclusion and employee engagement efforts, such as diversity forums and employee resource groups, by managing logistics, communications, and feedback systems to strengthen program efficacy and maximize impact.
Support the organization and implementation of employee engagement initiatives, including year-end activities and various forums, designed to enhance collaboration, foster alignment, and strengthen organizational culture.
Co-create and execute employee recognition programs across the organization and within individual departments, encompassing formal honors and peer-driven recognition efforts, to cultivate and sustain a culture of high performance.
Craft compelling and informative communication materials focused on employee wellness programs, policy updates, and engagement initiatives, adhering to established internal communication guidelines while ensuring clarity and engagement.
Achieve established performance benchmarks aligned with the Bank’s HR strategy, balanced scorecard, and individual performance targets, thereby driving measurable outcomes and fostering accountability.
Academic Qualifications: A doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as neuroscience, psychology, or a closely related discipline, is required. Candidates must demonstrate a strong research background, with published work in peer-reviewed journals as well as experience in securing research funding. Familiarity with advanced statistical methods and proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, or MATLAB are essential. Additionally, applicants should hold a track record of teaching experience at the university level, preferably in courses aligned with cognitive science, behavioral analysis, or experimental psychology.
A bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or an equivalent discipline is required.
Membership in recognized professional organizations and relevant publications are essential qualifications for this position.

Minimum four years of relevant professional experience is required for this position. Candidates must possess hands-on experience in the specified field to ensure they can effectively contribute from the outset. Requires three to four years of hands-on HR generalist experience, emphasizing expertise in employee relations, performance management, and wellness initiatives.
Possesses a comprehensive understanding of Kenyan labor legislation and regulatory frameworks governing employment practices, ensuring full compliance with all legal obligations and statutory requirements in the workplace.
