What you’ll do
The Investment Director will serve as a key member of our investment team, assuming principal responsibility for deal sourcing, structuring, and portfolio oversight within our designated markets. Reporting directly to the Head of Fund, the Investment Director will apply extensive expertise to high-stakes, often pioneering transactions while shaping fund strategy and fostering the growth of our emerging team members.

Manages and oversees the daily operations and strategic initiatives of the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance with regulatory standards. Leads and motivates a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture through coaching, mentoring, and performance management. Collaborates with senior leadership to define departmental objectives, allocate resources, and drive continuous improvement. Analyzes departmental performance metrics, identifies areas for growth, and implements corrective actions to achieve operational excellence. Ensures adherence to budgetary constraints while optimizing financial resources to support departmental goals.
Proactively uncover, originate, and evaluate investment opportunities in reforestation, blue carbon, and sustainable agriculture and land use within emerging markets. Cultivate and sustain a robust proprietary pipeline by leveraging a network of on-the-ground connections with project developers, governmental entities, and ecosystem intermediaries. Implement and refine a stringent screening framework to evaluate opportunities against the fund’s financial and impact benchmarks.
Lead comprehensive investment assessments from inception to completion for both corporate and project-level opportunities, encompassing financial modeling, evaluation of carbon methodologies, legal and regulatory scrutiny, community and environmental safeguards, and assessment of country and political risks. Develop and negotiate investment terms, and assemble investment committee documentation featuring a concise, logically supported recommendation. Guarantee alignment of all investments with portfolio return targets, impact goals, and risk tolerance.
As the Portfolio Manager, your primary responsibility involves actively overseeing portfolio investments from the point of close, with a strong emphasis on performance tracking against key performance indicators (KPIs), proactively identifying potential risks, and offering direct assistance to investees whenever necessary. You will collaborate closely with project teams to enhance operational resilience, optimize carbon credit issuance results, and identify additional avenues for value creation.
Strategic Partnerships: Spearhead the identification and development of essential strategic alliances—including purchasers of carbon credits, co-investors, and technical or research collaborators—to enhance the fund’s investment appeal and mitigate transaction-specific risks. Function as a senior relationship manager, engaging partners throughout the entire transaction lifecycle.
Investor relations support entails assisting with investor reporting and engagement by delivering precise, prompt, and data-driven updates on deal advancements and portfolio outcomes. Additionally, it involves facilitating fundraising discussions by offering verifiable deal-specific evidence that demonstrates the fund’s strategy in practice.

Proven practical experience in emerging market environments, coupled with a nuanced grasp of the political, regulatory, and operational challenges inherent in such settings.
A graduate degree in business, finance, environmental science, or a related discipline is preferred; possessing a CFA designation or equivalent is an asset, though not mandatory.
We seek a candidate with strong proficiency in technical skills, including but not limited to software development, system administration, data analysis, and network management. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is essential, along with experience with databases, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices. Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and tools is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate problem-solving abilities and a commitment to staying current with technological advancements.
Proficiency in financial modelling, particularly within the realm of project finance, is essential.
Proficiency in evaluating environmental and social safeguards is required, encompassing thorough community engagement strategies and meticulous attention to land tenure aspects critical to the success of nature-based initiatives.
Experience with voluntary carbon markets is highly desirable, particularly knowledge of carbon methodology frameworks, Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes, additionally and permanence considerations, as well as credit issuance risk.
