Main Purpose
With the support and guidance of the HPCE Manager, responsible for implementing the HPCE strategy workplan, with community participation, and supervising the HPCE activities and HP teams working in the communities or the health facilities, according to the project objectives/MSF values/standards and procedures.
HPCE strategy, activities and monitoring:
Actively contribute to the design/adaptation of the HPCE strategy / workplan.
Lead and follow up on the implementation of the HPCE strategy / workplan, according to the chronogram.
Support participatory approaches and regular patient/community consultations before and during implementation of the HPCE strategy.
Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF’s medical and non-medical staff
Support in the design of health education materials and participatory methods, applying the right process (pretesting, validation of content, translation).
Contribute to rapid assessments and surveys.
Actively support in the systematic collection, encoding and reporting of community feedback and rumours.
Support the implementation of community-based surveillance (data collection, active case finding, tracing, linkage to care.
Responsible for the planning and organization of community meetings (in collaboration with HPCE Manager).
Contribute to the community mapping.
Monitoring: Ensure the availability of the data collection tools; the data encoding in the data base and the quality check.
Monitoring: Contribute to the analysis of the monitoring data and look for adjustement (in collaboration with HPCE manager), monthly reporting (MMR, sitrep,…).
Team management:
Contribute to evaluation of the HP team (with the HPCE manager).
Contribute to the development plan for the HP team.
Training: Contribute to the needs assessment, design and implementation of training for the HP team, in collaboration with the HPCE manager.
Organize regular and systematic supervision of the HP activities and provide on the job-coaching.
Ensure the planning and practical organisation of the activities for the HP team (HP roaster).
Ensure the organisation of regular HP team meetings.
MSF specific requirements:
Ensure the briefing and preparation of Volunteer Peer Educators, and proper coordination with partner organizations, community members and gatekeepers
Actively contribute on the administrative duties such as payments and supply requirements.
Collaborate with Social Worker on continuous mapping of key stakeholders, actors, and unidentified AYP/AYKP hotspots in the target communities.
Contribute to the relevant preparatory work for clinical in-reach and community outreach IEC-HP activities, including scheduling, material preparation, staff preparation, and stock monitoring
Consult with Community Health Extension Workers to monitor health trends in the community.
Support baseline assessments and operational research as required
Collect the data and field reports compiled by Volunteer Peer Educators in support of monthly IEC-HP situation reports (SitReps), and project mid-year reviews and annual review of operations
Manage project digital and social media IEC initiatives: support the development and adaptation of relevant IEC materials in English/Swahili/Sheng, identify relevant social media channels and diffuse IEC digital materials online
Organizing, training, and supervising subordinates in the IEC-HP team including Community Health Workers and Peer Educators in terms of planning and organizing their work, supporting, evaluating and coaching of personnel, collecting reports, and reporting the activities, and regularly visiting communities that are under his/her responsibility.
In close collaboration with the IEC Manager, participating in the definition and update of the IEC-HP strategy and identifying indicators in order to monitor HP activities, results, and achievements.
Providing support in selecting and developing quality pedagogical communication strategies towards the community. Planning information campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness among the targeted population, with emphasis on digital Health Promotion activities.
Informing, according to protocols, community members and identified risk groups (AYP/AYKP) about health-related issues
Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF’s medical and non-medical staff
Sensitized and trained health care providers. Detect violence among clients and provide linkage to first-line support and clinical services to victims of violence
Involve the community in the identification of priorities, the definition of problems and the identification of potential solutions (participatory assessment and/or problem solving), ensuring that the perspectives/interests of the various segments of the population are taken into account.
Community dialogues with village elders, village chiefs, parents and other community gatekeepers are carried out with respect to AYKP need
Support the HP officers to the development plan for the Volunteer Peer Educator (VPE) team.
Support the HP officers on the planning and organization of the activities for the VPE team.
Support the HP officers on the organization of regular VPE team meetings.
Support to the development of the support plan for the VPE team.
Actively contribute on the administrative duties such as payments and supply requirements.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor/Diploma in social sciences/social work/behavioural sciences/public health/community health/nursing
Experience
At least 2 years experience in health promotion, team management experience, program implementation experience
Qualitiy methodology is highly desirable
Languages
English and Kiswahili
Knowledge
Basic computer literacy is required
Awareness of the challenges facing ‘key populations’ is required
Understanding of Mombasa society, politics, and culture is required
