What you’ll do

The Investment Director will be a cornerstone of our investment team, taking primary ownership of deal origination, structuring, and portfolio management across our target markets. Reporting directly to the Head of Fund, the Investment Director will bring seasoned judgement to complex, often first-of-kind transactions, and will play a central role in fund strategy and the development of our junior team members.

This role is suited to an investor who thrives in ambiguity, is energized by working at the frontier of sustainable finance and natural capital, and brings both rigorous analytical discipline and the relational skills to close deals and add value in challenging market environments.

Primary Responsibilities

Deal sourcing & pipeline development: Proactively identify, originate, and qualify investment opportunities across reforestation, blue carbon, and sustainable agriculture and land use in emerging markets. Build and maintain a high-quality proprietary pipeline through a network of on-the-ground relationships with project developers, government bodies, and ecosystem intermediaries. Develop and apply a rigorous screening framework to assess opportunities against the fund’s financial and impact criteria.

As the lead for investment execution and due diligence, you will oversee comprehensive evaluations of corporate and project-level opportunities from inception to completion. This encompasses conducting rigorous financial modelling, reviewing carbon methodologies, analyzing legal and regulatory frameworks, and assessing community and environmental safeguards, alongside evaluating country and political risks. You will design and negotiate favorable investment terms, crafting compelling investment committee materials that present a clear, well-supported recommendation. Your role will also ensure alignment between all investments and the organization’s portfolio return targets, impact goals, and risk tolerance levels.

Portfolio management and value creation entails assuming proactive stewardship of investments following closure, with a focus on performance tracking against key performance indicators, early risk identification, and delivering targeted support to portfolio companies as necessary. Collaborate with project teams to bolster operational resilience, enhance carbon credit issuance results, and capitalize on subsequent value creation prospects.

Strategic partnerships: Spearhead the discovery and development of pivotal strategic alliances—such as buyers of carbon credits, co-investors, and technical or research collaborators—to bolster the fund’s investment appeal while mitigating risks in individual transactions. Act as a senior liaison, fostering and maintaining partner relationships throughout the entire deal lifecycle.

Investor relations support involves producing precise, prompt, and analytically rich updates on transaction advancements and portfolio outcomes to enhance investor reporting and engagement. Additionally, it assists in fundraising initiatives by furnishing credible, deal-specific evidence that substantiates the fund’s strategic positioning in practice.
