What you’ll do

The Investment Director will serve as a key pillar of our investment team, assuming primary responsibility for sourcing deals, structuring investments, and managing portfolios within our target markets. Reporting directly to the Head of Fund, this role will leverage extensive experience to navigate intricate, often pioneering transactions, while also shaping fund strategy and fostering the growth of junior team members.

This position is ideal for an investor who excels in uncertain conditions, energized by pioneering sustainable finance and natural capital initiatives, while maintaining a disciplined analytical approach and strong interpersonal abilities to finalize transactions and deliver value in complex market landscapes.

Oversee and execute a range of critical duties, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational standards. Key tasks include managing project timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and delivering high-quality outputs within specified deadlines. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication to foster collaboration and drive results. Additionally, the position requires proficiency in relevant software tools, adherence to compliance protocols, and the capacity to adapt to evolving priorities in a dynamic work environment.

Proactively seek out and evaluate investment opportunities in reforestation, blue carbon, and sustainable agriculture and land use within emerging markets to source deals and cultivate a robust pipeline. Establish and nurture a proprietary network of relationships with project developers, governmental entities, and ecosystem intermediaries to secure high-quality deal flow. Implement and refine a stringent screening framework to assess potential investments against the fund’s financial and impact benchmarks.

The professional will oversee the complete investment evaluation process for both corporate and project-level opportunities, encompassing financial modeling, carbon methodology assessments, legal and regulatory scrutiny, community and environmental safeguards evaluation, and country/political risk analysis. Additionally, they will design and negotiate investment terms, as well as develop investment committee documentation featuring a compelling and logically supported recommendation. It will be their responsibility to ensure all investments are consistent with portfolio return expectations, impact goals, and risk tolerance.

Portfolio management and value creation: Assume active stewardship of portfolio investments following closure, monitoring performance against key performance indicators, proactively identifying risks, and providing direct support to investees as required. Collaborate with project teams to enhance operational resilience, optimize carbon credit issuance results, and uncover subsequent value creation opportunities.

Strategic partnerships entail spearheading the discovery and development of pivotal alliances—encompassing carbon credit offtakers, co-investors, and technical or research collaborators—to bolster the fund’s investment appeal and mitigate transaction-specific risks. As a senior liaison, you will manage relationships with partners throughout the entire deal process.

Investor relations support entails assisting with investor reporting and engagement by delivering precise, prompt, and data-driven updates on deal progress and portfolio performance. Additionally, it involves aiding fundraising discussions through credible, deal-specific evidence that demonstrates the fund’s thesis in practice.

Experience

With over a decade of dedicated experience in investment positions—including a significant focus on emerging markets—this role seeks candidates with additional background in infrastructure, project finance, and/or private equity.

Experienced in guiding investments autonomously from initial sourcing to implementation and ongoing oversight.

Proficiency in navigating or collaborating within emerging market environments is essential, requiring a keen awareness of the political, regulatory, and operational challenges inherent to such settings.

A graduate degree in business, finance, environmental science, or a related discipline would be advantageous, while possession of a CFA certification or an equivalent credential, though not mandatory, would be considered an asset.

Proficient in a variety of technical tools, systems, and methodologies relevant to the role, with demonstrated experience in [specific technologies, e.g., programming languages, software, frameworks]. Strong analytical capabilities to interpret complex data, troubleshoot issues, and develop innovative solutions. Knowledge of industry best practices and compliance standards is essential. Preferred candidates will have prior experience with voluntary carbon markets, including knowledge of carbon methodology frameworks, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes, additionally and permanence considerations, and risks associated with credit issuance.
