Users and Survivors of Psychiatry in Kenya (USP Kenya) welcomes all members of the public and relevant stakeholders to be partners in promoting the human rights discourse of persons with psychosocial disabilities. This is in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities… read more (CRPD) which Kenya ratified in 2008. The Convention’s approach to the exercise of human rights offers amazing opportunities for persons with psychosocial disabilities in Kenya. It provides policy and law makers as well as implementers with advanced tools for advancing the rights of persons with psychosocial disabilities. The paradigm shift in the CPRD entails moving away from treating all persons with disabilities as objects to be managed or cared for to honoring and respecting them as subjects, restoring voice, power and authority and respecting this power and authority by forging pathways to independent living and participation.
