The Yard Marshal oversees the proactive management, coordination, and mitigation of risks associated with vehicle and pedestrian movements across yards and controlled premises.

The position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities beyond mere traffic control, including identifying potential hazards, assessing behavioral risks, preventing incidents, mentoring drivers, and ensuring compliance with yard safety protocols. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the movement of trucks within the transport yard, managing their inbound and outbound flow, and supervising fueling operations.

The Yard Marshal oversees yard operations at the DHL Supply Chain site, maintaining a focus on safety, efficiency, and adherence to discipline protocols.

This position ensures timely dispatch operations, maintains yard safety and asset protection, and upholds operational excellence in alignment with DHL Supply Chain’s established standards, HSE policies, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The position entails a diverse range of critical functions and obligations, encompassing both core and supplementary responsibilities integral to the role’s success. Key tasks involve executing specialized duties, managing operational workflows, and ensuring adherence to established protocols while contributing to strategic objectives. Additionally, the role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams, and consistent delivery of high-quality outcomes in alignment with organizational standards.

Oversee the fuel unloading process into the Bowser and verify compliance with quality standards prior to final approval.

Establishes structured feedback mechanisms for Direct Store Control (DSC) drivers—including those employed and subcontracted—to foster meaningful input and drive continuous enhancement of operational processes.

Ensure trucks are fueled starting at 6:00 AM daily, including Sundays and public holidays, to accommodate early departures for distribution.

Ensure trucks depart Maharani for KBL on schedule while advising the KBL operations team on the suitability of trucks and trailers.

Enforces adherence to safety protocols within the yard, including the decoupling and coupling of vehicles, as well as reversing operations, and oversees the controlled movement of vehicles to the car wash facility.

Maharani yard management entails organizing and overseeing the designated parking areas to distinguish between loaded and empty trailers, as well as handling vehicles on VOR (Vehicle Off Road) status.

Ensure a consistent and visible presence on the sales floor to remain engaged with staff and address emerging concerns promptly.

Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections, verifying that all trucks departing for county destinations possess valid county permits.

To guarantee prompt repairs, trucks flagged with mechanical failures must be redirected to designated workshops for intervention.

Enforce adherence to pedestrian safety protocols throughout the premises to ensure the protection of all individuals present.

Verify compliance with established work instructions and standard operating procedures governing the operation.

Ensure adherence to the designated one-way traffic system exclusively within the Maharani yard.

Prepare and execute fuel Discrepancy Investigation (DIV) documentation for company-owned vehicles as well as third-party (subcontracted) trucks.

Responsible for managing and directing the flow of trucks, forklifts, delivery vans, motorcycles, pedestrians, and contractors within the yard to ensure safe and efficient traffic movement.

Oversee the fleet fueling process to ensure the precise dispensing of fuel quantities as outlined in the approved Daily Issue Voucher (DIV), and verify that the seal and padlock are properly secured upon completion.

Maintain a clean and orderly yard environment, ensuring clear boundary lines, visible signage, and accessible pathways without obstructions.

Oversee the operational status of yard equipment, including wheel chocks, traffic cones, barriers, and dock locks, to ensure they remain in proper working condition.

Promptly notify relevant personnel of any damage observed to infrastructure, vehicles, trailers, or cargo.

Protect DHL’s and customer assets consistently and vigilantly in all circumstances.

Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify potential health and safety hazards affecting drivers—including those employed by our fleet and subcontracted personnel—and implement measures to mitigate or eradicate these risks within the operational yard.

Investigate workplace incidents promptly, documenting and reporting findings while addressing any instances of noncompliance. Escalate concerns regarding unsafe behaviors such as speeding, aggressive driving, distracted operation (e.g., phone use, fatigue), improper reversing techniques, or unsafe vehicle conditions. Additionally, ensure adherence to safety regulations and established procedures, including compliance with marshal instructions.

Assess vehicles for potential hazards such as insecure loads, fluid leaks, mechanical malfunctions, or instances of overloading or instability, and take prompt and decisive action to mitigate risks before they escalate.

As a proficient bandsman, you will oversee reversing and maneuvering operations for trucks, ensuring precise docking and safe navigation in confined spaces. Utilize standardized hand signals and communication devices to direct vehicle movement effectively. Promptly halt all operations upon identifying any of the following conditions: loss of line of sight, unauthorized entry of pedestrians into designated danger zones, or any indication of unsafe working conditions.

Engage in incident investigations as required, conduct toolbox talks, and perform safety observations.

Solicit insights and recommendations regarding the yard’s layout, signage, and traffic flow design, along with operational procedures, to identify potential enhancements.

Continuously assess the yard environment to proactively identify potential hazards—such as blind spots, traffic congestion, adverse weather conditions, and reduced visibility—before they pose a risk.

Please ensure all site incidents are reported in accordance with the risk and incident reporting Standard Operating Procedure.

Verify that all trucks departing from the DHL facility to their respective destinations possess current county permits, valid insurance coverage, and an up-to-date NASA inspection certificate.

Verify that all trucks are maintained in optimal physical condition to ensure their operational readiness.

To safeguard operations and personnel, as well as DSC assets and customer products within the designated area, implement and maintain robust security protocols.

Ensure the successful implementation and execution of the DSC 6 Steps security framework throughout the entire operation or a designated section of it.

Accurately document every trailer movement, arrival, and departure within the Yard Management System (YES) or through manual logs.

Ensure compliance with DHL and client specifications by confirming seal integrity, verifying truck condition, and checking documentation accuracy.

Ensure adherence to DHL’s operational protocols, audit requirements, and customer contractual commitments.

Maintain precise and auditable yard records to facilitate both internal and external audit processes.

Verify that the delivery documents align precisely with the truck specifications while it is stationed in the yard.

Please accurately record and disseminate decoupled trailer details to the appropriate team.

Verify delivery documentation in alignment with detached or suspended trailer statuses.

Ensure that all delivery documentation is properly documented and submitted to security personnel at the designated gate.

About you

A diploma in Logistics or a closely related field is required for this position.

Requires a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a high-volume transport setting, specifically in the role of a yard marshal.

Highly proficient in the safety protocols and operational standards specific to the transportation industry, possessing extensive hands-on experience in implementing and maintaining rigorous safety measures.
