ABOUT THE ROLE

We seek a Technical Lead to oversee the design, development, and execution of WSU’s urban sanitation carbon mitigation program in Kenya. This position will spearhead carbon data collection and management, the creation of MRV systems, stakeholder engagement, and the formalization and integration of sanitation service providers. The goal is to facilitate the registration, monitoring, verification, and issuance of carbon credits derived from faucal sludge management and methane mitigation interventions across Nairobi, Kisumu, Natasha, and Nakuru.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our team, possessing the following key qualifications: a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role, proficiency in relevant software applications, and strong interpersonal skills. Additionally, the ideal applicant must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, exhibit exceptional problem-solving capabilities, and maintain a detail-oriented approach in all tasks. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, along with a valid professional certification where applicable.

Individuals should possess relevant work experience and a solid understanding of the field. Familiarity with industry standards and best practices is essential. A proven track record in similar roles or projects is highly valued.

A relevant university degree is required for this position.

Proficiency in overseeing projects financed by governmental bodies or public agencies is required.

With a minimum of three years of specialized expertise in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives within low-income urban settings, candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of implementing and managing effective programs.

Professionals with prior involvement in water and/or sanitation service providers or enterprises will be prioritized for this role. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience collaborating with organizations in the water and sanitation sector. Familiarity with service delivery models, infrastructure management, or utility operations within this domain is highly advantageous.

Leading and guiding cross-functional project teams comprising stakeholders, partners, and project personnel, you will be responsible for ensuring cohesive collaboration and alignment toward shared objectives. This role entails overseeing the team’s performance, fostering effective communication, and driving project success through strategic coordination and leadership.

A proven history of cultivating and maintaining critical external and internal relationships across community, utility, and governmental sectors is essential to achieving program and project objectives.

A proven track record in enabling project teams and stakeholders to enhance their skills and capabilities is required.

Demonstrating leadership by guiding and developing team members through mentoring and coaching initiatives.

Fluent English communication skills are essential, as the role requires distilling intricate ideas into easily understandable insights for non-technical leadership—both in written reports and verbal presentations—and delivering expert guidance with assurance and diplomacy.

Skilled in utilizing the Microsoft Office suite, with strong command of Word, Excel, and Outlook, among other applications.

Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and proficient in utilizing project management software (A) are essential requirements for this role.
