The Position
Reporting to the Senior ICT Officer, the ICT Intern will acquire practical, hands-on experience in Information Technology within a fast-paced NGO setting. This internship offers exposure to essential ICT responsibilities, such as user support, systems administration, network monitoring, systems and data management, and ICT security operations. Collaborating closely with the ICT team, the intern will assist in daily tasks, contribute to active projects, and advance the organization’s mission by maintaining seamless, secure, and dependable ICT services.
Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of critical tasks and obligations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and industry standards. Assume responsibility for a diverse set of duties that encompass strategic planning, operational efficiency, and cross-functional collaboration. Maintain accountability for delivering high-quality results while adhering to established policies, procedures, and performance metrics. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team to drive sustained success and operational excellence.
Deliver technical support to staff regarding common software and hardware challenges.
Provide support for the setup, configuration, and ongoing upkeep of both hardware and software systems.
Provide assistance in identifying and resolving issues within the network infrastructure while performing routine maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Monitor and oversee the repair and maintenance activities for ICT equipment to ensure timely resolution and operational efficiency.
Offer technical assistance for ICT systems during meetings, events, and field operations to ensure seamless functionality.
Support ICT security operations by actively monitoring threats, enforcing security protocols, facilitating audit processes, and guaranteeing adherence to organizational compliance standards.
Document any unresolved issues and escalate them to senior ICT personnel for further review and resolution.
Handle additional responsibilities as delegated by the ICT supervisor as needed.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, information technology, or engineering. A minimum of three years of professional experience in a similar role, along with proficiency in multiple programming languages like Python, Java, or C++, is essential. Familiarity with software development methodologies, database management, and cloud computing platforms is also required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team, are necessary. Additionally, excellent communication skills and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development are expected.
Currently enrolled in or holding a recently completed degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable discipline.
Proficient in Unix and Windows-based applications, with a solid grasp of fundamental networking principles.
Proficiency in networking, PC maintenance, MS Windows server administration, MS Active Directory, desktop operating systems, as well as Cisco routing, switching, and voice technologies is required.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively and convey ideas clearly in both verbal and written formats.
Demonstrates a proactive approach to acquiring new skills and adjusting to emerging technological advancements.
