Job Description
A Data Centre Technician is required in Nairobi, Kenya to perform hands-on rack and stack operations, break/fix maintenance, cabling, installations, and incident triage, ensuring the continuous operation of Oracle Cloud infrastructure around the clock.
As an Oracle Data Center Technician, you will play a pivotal role within the onsite team, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations in a production data center environment located in Nairobi. Your responsibilities will involve direct engagement with infrastructure and hardware, contributing to the reliability of services and the successful completion of critical build and delivery milestones. Collaboration will be essential, as you work alongside engineers and senior technicians to diagnose and resolve issues, perform installations, and uphold stringent standards for operational excellence, safety, and documentation.
This position requires onsite presence, with on-call responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
We seek candidates with a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a data center setting, including roles in data center operations, colocation facilities, hyperscale environments, enterprise data centers, or comparable critical infrastructure settings.
Proficiency in server hardware operations and fundamental break/fix procedures is required.
Proficiency on Linux, encompassing essential command-line operations and effective troubleshooting techniques, is required.
Proficient knowledge of the data center infrastructure, including cooling systems, power and electrical principles, fundamental networking concepts, and structured cabling practices.
Able to perform effectively in rotating shift schedules within an onsite operational setting, with readiness to respond to on-call assignments as needed.
Maintains meticulous focus on details, ensures thorough documentation, and strictly follows established procedures.
Duties encompass overseeing daily operations to ensure seamless workflow, managing a team of professionals to achieve departmental objectives, and implementing strategies to enhance productivity and efficiency. Additionally, responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, preparing comprehensive reports, and liaising with stakeholders to address inquiries and resolve issues promptly. The role also demands adherence to company policies, compliance with industry regulations, and participation in performance reviews to foster continuous improvement.
On-site support is required within a production data center setting, encompassing hardware break/fix operations, component replacement tasks, and fundamental troubleshooting procedures.
Provide support for the installation, configuration, and testing processes of data center infrastructure, including racking and stacking equipment, managing cabling systems, and facilitating deployment operations.
Conduct regular maintenance tasks, including firmware updates and system health checks, in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
Triage and address incoming incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution while escalating matters as needed and maintaining detailed records of all actions undertaken.
Perform structured cabling and network-related duties, including fiber and copper patching, meticulous labeling, and maintaining organized cable management as required.
Maintain precise records of parts and asset inventories, providing audit support and adhering to stringent tracking protocols for spares.
Adhere to standard operating procedures and established operational processes while offering innovative suggestions to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with stakeholders across various functions while collaborating seamlessly within a shift-based team environment.

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, reporting, or a similar role, with at least two years in a leadership or supervisory capacity. Proficiency in financial software, advanced Excel skills, and strong analytical abilities are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also necessary to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
