The Conservation Impact System Team (IST) within the Chief Conservation Office is instrumental in advancing global conservation efforts. By collaborating with conservation teams, leaders, and executives, the IST empowers them to leverage evidence-based approaches in adaptive management and reporting, ensuring The Nature Conservancy (TNC) delivers on its commitments to biodiversity, climate resilience, and human well-being. Comprising the Conservation Data Team (CDT) and Conservation Strategy Team (CST), the IST delivers cohesive support through their specialized functions. The CDT is tasked with strengthening conservation data capabilities, maintaining data integrity, advancing scientific and technical systems, and facilitating organizational reporting—including executive and global board-level insights and recommendations. This role is centered on equipping regional teams with the tools and frameworks needed to consistently produce, validate, and apply high-quality data and evidence through robust Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) systems, standards, and methodologies. The position partners closely with regional MEL leads to synchronize CDT initiatives with regional priorities, processes, and operational practices.
Essential Functions:
The Africa Regional Advisor will collaborate with the CDT to enhance direct and integrated support for conservation data, addressing the needs of conservation teams and leaders across TNC’s Africa Region. This role aims to empower decision-makers with robust evidence, thereby improving the quality of their choices and maximizing their impact.
The Africa Regional Advisor will foster insights into the factors influencing customer satisfaction—specifically, the needs of TNC conservation teams and leaders—across the Africa region while enhancing the delivery of CDT support. Serving as a cross-cultural and organizational facilitator, the advisor will champion knowledge sharing, ensuring that innovations and best practices originating from the Africa region—or other TNC regions—are disseminated, adapted, and integrated. This collaboration will cultivate a unified, contextually relevant conservation data toolkit that aligns with TNC’s broader objectives.
The Africa Conservation Data Advisor will cultivate and sustain robust, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders and specialists across the Africa Region, including the monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) regional team, scientists, and portfolio managers. The incumbent will partner with Africa-based MEL staff to ensure the Conservation Data Team’s (CDT) assistance aligns with their conservation science data objectives, MEL frameworks, and reporting mechanisms to strengthen evidence-based adaptive management within the Africa Portfolio. Additionally, this role will engage with regional MEL leaders and partners to tailor science data support to high-priority needs, enhancing MEL data quality and advancing adaptive management practices. Close collaboration with the Africa MEL lead, CDT colleagues, and the CST Africa regional counterpart will ensure cohesive support across MEL initiatives and strategic processes. The position will play a pivotal role in delivering CDT solutions while providing technical and data science expertise. Operating with an iterative, hands-on approach, the advisor will drive the development, implementation, and refinement of CDT offerings, enabling rapid learning and adaptive adjustments.
