THE OPPORTUNITY
The Railway Coordinator oversees the procurement and logistics of rail wagons in partnership with Kenya Railways Corporation, guaranteeing prompt availability, streamlined loading and shunting processes, and punctual delivery to clients.
This role entails resolving cargo discrepancies—such as damaged or broken bags—while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders to reduce delays. Additionally, it requires maintaining precise records to ensure the efficiency and dependability of rail logistics operations.
As part of this role, you will be tasked with managing a range of key responsibilities that align with the objectives of the team and organization. Duties include overseeing project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with strategic goals, and identifying opportunities for process improvements. Additionally, you will be responsible for analyzing performance metrics to inform decision-making, maintaining compliance with industry regulations, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous development within the team.
Develop and finalize rail wagon arrangements in strict compliance with established loading schedules and client delivery specifications, in close collaboration with Kenya Railways Corporation.
Ensure the prompt and efficient positioning of empty wagons, oversee loading procedures, and manage the shunting of loaded wagons to facilitate their timely dispatch.
Develop and oversee wagon movement schedules while proactively identifying and escalating any delays or bottlenecks that may arise.
Work closely with rail yard teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to coordinate and optimize loading and dispatch processes for maximum efficiency.
Confirm cargo quantities and validate the precision of shipping documentation and waybills before final dispatch.
Monitor shipments from dispatch to final delivery, verify proof of delivery, and address any discrepancies or exceptions that may arise.
Conduct thorough examinations of damaged or misplaced cargo, such as compromised baggage, to identify underlying causes, and facilitate the resolution of claims while implementing corrective measures.
Maintain meticulous and current documentation, such as wagon assignments, movement logs, manifests, and reconciliation reports.
Maintain strict adherence to rail operational procedures, safety standards, and company policies at all times.
Examine operational performance metrics—such as cycle times, delays, and losses—and propose strategic enhancements to optimize efficiency while minimizing expenditures.
Investigate incidents and spearhead ongoing improvement efforts within rail operations.
Perform routine inspections at rail yards, loading facilities, and customer premises to oversee operational activities and address any arising concerns.
