Job Summary

Pearl Hospital, a Level 4 multi-specialty facility in Lavinia County, is in search of an Optical Technician to support the delivery of superior optical services. This role involves dispensing optical products, adjusting and repairing eyewear, performing basic optical measurements, and maintaining a high standard of patient care. Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of critical duties, including strategic planning, operational oversight, and team leadership to drive organizational success. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance with industry standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and growth. Monitor performance metrics, analyze data, and report findings to senior management to inform decision-making. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, quality standards, and ethical guidelines in all business activities. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development support to team members to foster a high-performing and engaged workforce. Manage budgets, resources, and stakeholder relationships to optimize operational effectiveness and achieve long-term objectives.

Interpret and process prescriptions accurately as issued by Optometrists or Ophthalmologists.

Provide support to patients in choosing suitable frames, lenses, and optical accessories.

Responsibilities include precisely determining key measurements such as pupillary distance (PD), segment height, and frame fitting to ensure optimal lens alignment and wearer comfort.

Examine, calibrate, and restore spectacles and other optical instruments to optimal functionality, ensuring precise alignment and performance through expert adjustments and maintenance.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inventory for frames, lenses, contact lenses, and optical supplies.

Thoroughly examine and validate optical orders to ensure complete accuracy prior to their distribution.

Maintain the cleanliness, functionality, and proper upkeep of all optical equipment and tools.

Maintain precise documentation of patient information and medication dispensing in strict adherence to hospital-established protocols.

Conduct inventory counts and oversee procurement activities for optical supplies to ensure accurate stock levels and timely replenishment.

Ensure strict compliance with Infection Prevention and Control protocols while upholding a consistently sanitized workspace.

Engage in initiatives aimed at enhancing quality standards within the optical department.

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Engineering, Computer Science, or Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally, candidates must possess at least three years of professional experience in a related role, with demonstrated proficiency in project management and data analysis. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in industry-standard software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with advanced tools like SQL or Tableau, are also required.

A recognized institution must award either a Diploma or Certificate in Optical Technology or Optician.

Eligible candidates must maintain current registration with the appropriate professional body, where such registration applies.

With a minimum of one to two years of practical experience in an optical clinic, hospital, or eyewear retail environment, candidates will be considered more favorably.

Proficiency in optical lenses, frames, and contact lenses, along with dispensing methodologies, is essential.
