THE OPPORTUNITY

The Railway Coordinator oversees the procurement and scheduling of rail wagons in partnership with Kenya Railways Corporation, guaranteeing prompt availability, streamlined loading and shunting processes, and punctual customer deliveries.

The role encompasses resolving cargo discrepancies, such as damaged or broken bags, while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders to reduce delays. Additionally, it requires meticulous record-keeping to ensure smooth and dependable rail logistics operations.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement rail wagon securing strategies in alignment with established loading schedules and customer delivery specifications, collaborating closely with Kenya Railways Corporation to ensure seamless execution.

Coordinate the prompt positioning of empty wagons, oversee loading operations, and manage the shunting of loaded wagons to facilitate their dispatch in a timely manner.

Create and oversee wagon movement schedules while proactively detecting and escalating any delays or bottlenecks to ensure smooth operations.

Work collaboratively with rail yard teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to guarantee the efficient execution of loading and dispatch operations.

Verify the cargo quantities and confirm the accuracy of all shipping documentation and waybills before final dispatch.

Monitor shipments from dispatch to final delivery, verify proof of receipt, and address any discrepancies or irregularities that may arise.

Investigate instances of damaged or lost cargo, such as broken bags, identify the underlying causes, and facilitate the resolution of claims as well as the implementation of corrective measures.

Maintain precise and current documentation, such as wagon assignments, movement logs, manifests, and reconciliation reports.

Ensure complete adherence to rail operational procedures, safety regulations, and organizational policies.

Analyze operational performance metrics—such as turnaround times, delays, and losses—to identify inefficiencies and propose strategic improvements that drive productivity and cost savings.

Facilitate thorough incident investigations while championing ongoing improvement efforts throughout rail operations.

Perform routine on-site inspections at rail yards, loading facilities, and customer premises to oversee operational activities and address any arising challenges.

You are expected to possess a strong background in [specific field/industry], complemented by a minimum of [X years] of relevant professional experience. Experience in rail systems, particularly with entities like Kenya Railways, is advantageous.

Proficiency in various wagon types, rail operations, and shunting procedures, coupled with expertise in rail documentation processes, is required.

Requires demonstrated expertise in managing cargo claims, reconciling losses and damages, and facilitating collaboration among various stakeholders, including internal teams, customers, and rail operators.

A valid driver’s license is required, and the ability to travel as needed for operational coordination is essential.
