The Role

Oxfam in Africa seeks a seasoned Strategic Communications Advisor to bolster the Director’s external outreach efforts and strengthen Oxfam’s influence across the continent and beyond.

As a key member of Oxfam’s influencing team, this fast-paced position drives strategic communications that elevate the Director’s influence, ensuring every engagement—from global summits to media interviews—is compelling, consistent, and fully aligned with Oxfam’s core objectives.

You will collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Media and Communications colleagues, and partners throughout the confederation to develop and implement strategic plans for high-impact engagements, ensuring seamless coordination between advocacy efforts, communications initiatives, and overall organizational goals.

This position is accountable to the Oxfam in Africa Director, while maintaining a secondary reporting relationship with the Media and Communications Lead.

What we’re looking for

A seasoned communications expert is sought with a proven background in media relations, public engagement, and strategic advocacy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional writing and editorial prowess, adept at distilling intricate policy matters into engaging narratives tailored for senior-level stakeholders.

You excel at cultivating and sustaining meaningful relationships, effortlessly engaging with high-level stakeholders in government bodies, international organizations, civil society, and global partners. With a proven ability to perform under tight deadlines and high-stakes conditions, you adeptly balance competing priorities while upholding rigorous standards of precision and thoroughness.

A strategic-minded professional capable of recognizing opportunities to amplify Oxfam’s influence and enhance the effectiveness of leadership engagements. You bring a strong dedication to social justice, gender equality, and Oxfam’s core mission. Proficiency in both English and French is required, with additional fluency in Portuguese viewed favorably.
