POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role involves overseeing the routine medical care of outpatients while providing guidance and mentorship to junior medical staff. The Medical Officer oversees the assessment and follow-up of outpatients and collaborates with primary surgeons to address any notable changes in a patient’s condition, ensuring appropriate treatment and management decisions are made.
Performs a range of critical responsibilities, including but not limited to overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and managing cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives. Duties involve analyzing performance metrics, implementing process improvements, and maintaining accurate documentation to support decision-making. Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in adherence to the Medical Officer’s defined scope of clinical practice as necessary.
Evaluate pertinent pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports, then relay key findings to the primary surgeon for informed decision-making.
Diligently document the patient’s medical record with comprehensive details, including their history, examination findings, management plans, investigations conducted, and actions taken.
Assist in facilitating the seamless coordination of patient care to enhance throughput efficiency throughout the facility.
Conduct comprehensive assessments of both outpatients and inpatients in collaboration with assigned residents and/or lead surgeons to ensure coordinated and thorough patient evaluations.
Facilitate the initiation of diagnostic processes and treatment plans for patients by ordering essential radiology and pathology tests, prescribing suitable medications, and coordinating referrals for specialist consultations as needed.
Deliver on-the-spot training sessions to junior medical personnel.
Maintain open and compassionate dialogue with the patient and/or their immediate family regarding their medical condition.
Ensure the Medical Officer maintains an active and valid license at all times throughout their tenure.
Oversees a range of essential clinical support services such as pharmacy operations, laboratory testing, radiology imaging, biomedical equipment maintenance, and nutritional care.
Overseeing the performance of all clinical officers within the facility is a key responsibility of this role.
Engage in departmental quality management initiatives in alignment with hospital-established quality standards.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by management, encompassing a range of duties essential to operational efficiency and team objectives. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to collaboration on special projects, participation in cross-functional initiatives, and support for ad hoc requests to ensure seamless workflow and organizational success.

Education and experience requirements for this position include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, finance, or accounting. A minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or corporate finance is essential, with at least two years in a managerial or leadership role. Proficiency in financial software, such as ERP systems or advanced Excel, is required, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of contributing to financial planning, forecasting, and strategic decision-making within a corporate environment.
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree or equivalent qualification is required.
Licensed as a medical practitioner by the Medical Council of Kenya, the incumbent serves as a qualified medical officer.
A leadership and management course or prior experience in a leadership role is highly advantageous.
