The primary objective of this position is to fulfill the specified role effectively and efficiently, ensuring all duties and responsibilities are met in accordance with established guidelines and organizational goals. The ICT Assistant – Network Administration, who reports directly to the Head of ICT, is tasked with evaluating information risk and supporting the rectification of identified vulnerabilities concerning IT security and risks throughout Kenya Tea Packers. This role involves coordinating ICT system support in collaboration with the Database Administrator, Business Intelligence, and Reporting teams. Additionally, the position ensures secure network connectivity within and between Keep offices, as well as the integrity and security of the company’s systems.

Conducts a range of critical tasks and fulfills key obligations integral to the role. Delivers essential functions by performing duties aligned with operational objectives and organizational goals. Manages responsibilities encompassing both routine and specialized assignments to ensure seamless workflow and productivity. Addresses core functions through strategic planning, meticulous execution, and consistent performance monitoring. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and optimize outcomes while adhering to established policies and protocols.

Evaluates connectivity key performance indicators—such as availability, utilization, throughput, and latency—to ensure optimal network performance. Additionally, oversees the strategic selection, installation, configuration, and testing of ICT equipment to uphold system reliability and efficiency.

Monitor IT networks, systems, and software applications, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and proactively implement preventive measures to ensure seamless network performance and minimize downtime.

Present detailed findings and actionable recommendations regarding identified vulnerabilities to the Head of ICT for implementation of corrective measures.

Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments employing advanced IT security tools and established methodologies to identify and document any IT security or risk exposures present within the network infrastructure, systems, and software applications.

Convenes with users to determine network specifications, conducting thorough assessments of workflow, access, security, and information requirements. Subsequently, designs router administration, encompassing interface configuration and routing protocols, to ensure optimal system performance and alignment with organizational needs.

Performs continuous network monitoring and analysis to ensure optimal performance, identifies and resolves network issues through troubleshooting, and escalates unresolved problems to vendors as necessary.

Secures the network by establishing access protocols, continuously monitoring activity, enforcing control measures, and assessing system integrity, while ensuring all documentation remains current and accurate.

Periodically evaluate firewall configurations, rules, and logs in collaboration with the Head of Enhanced Cyber Defense to establish access privileges, implement control frameworks, and allocate resources effectively.

Support the ICT Manager by contributing to the evaluation and enhancement of existing ICT policies, including the Disaster Recovery Plan, the Company Technology Infrastructure and Systems Strategy, and the Business Continuity Planning Standard Operating Procedures.

Entry, update, and proactive follow-up within the ICT support helpdesk system are required, alongside delivering dependable, responsive, and uninterrupted assistance to all users of information and telecommunication systems.

Deliver introductory training and technical assistance to users in navigating the network and utilizing diverse software applications, while collaborating with the ICT Manager to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of all information systems.

Collaborate with vendor support representatives to assess and revise Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while addressing technical issues related to end-user hardware, software, and network connectivity, including MPLS, SD-WAN, and internet services.

Ensure that all computers, laptops, and servers within the domain and network are equipped with licensed and up-to-date operating systems, as well as the latest versions of endpoint security software.

Ensure seamless interconnection of all computers with various systems, including validation systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.

Collaborate with the Head of ICT to develop the annual ICT training capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets.

Assist the Systems Administrator and the Head of ICT in executing any additional responsibilities as required, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives and operational needs.

Penetration testing and vulnerability assessments involve evaluating information systems to identify security weaknesses and potential exploits. Professionals in this role must possess expertise in security tools and methodologies, along with a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles. They are responsible for conducting thorough assessments, documenting findings, and providing actionable recommendations to mitigate risks and enhance system security.

Overseeing the operational management of threat and vulnerability processes constitutes a key responsibility of this role. The position involves coordinating and directing the ongoing activities associated with identifying, assessing, and mitigating security risks to ensure the protection of organizational assets. This includes implementing structured workflows, monitoring emerging threats, and ensuring compliance with established security protocols to maintain a robust defense posture.

Deliver technical assistance to end users, addressing inquiries and resolving issues related to hardware, software, or system configurations. Investigate problems through remote diagnostics, troubleshooting steps, and systematic analysis to identify root causes. Escalate complex issues to senior technicians or specialized teams when necessary, ensuring timely resolution. Maintain accurate records of support interactions, solutions implemented, and follow-up actions in the designated ticketing system. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance service delivery and improve system reliability. Stay current with product updates, industry trends, and emerging technologies to provide informed support.

Plan and oversee the deployment and integration of new hardware and software systems. Manage the firmware updates and application upgrades to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.

Liaise with vendors to address and resolve any software and hardware malfunctions, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

With a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in network administration, candidates should possess a strong foundation in managing and maintaining network infrastructure. This includes overseeing network operations, ensuring system reliability, and implementing security protocols to safeguard against potential threats.

Network security and infrastructure expertise requires a recognized certification such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEA) or an equivalent credential.

Proven expertise in executing network installations and performing comprehensive configurations is essential. Practical, firsthand experience in deploying and setting up network infrastructure is required.

A strong proficiency in networking principles and technologies is essential. In-depth understanding of network architecture, protocols, and security measures is required. Familiarity with LAN, WAN, VPN, and cloud networking is necessary. Experience with network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls is preferred. Knowledge of IP addressing, subletting, and routing protocols is mandatory. Troubleshooting network issues and optimizing performance are key responsibilities. Staying updated with emerging networking trends and advancements is also expected.

Proven expertise in configuring, installing, and troubleshooting routers to ensure optimal network performance and reliability.
