The role encompasses a broad spectrum of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to managing daily operations, overseeing project execution, ensuring compliance with company policies, and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders. Breeding operations require dedicated support to ensure the successful propagation and management of livestock or other animals. This role involves assisting with the coordination of breeding schedules, maintaining accurate records of genetic lineage, and monitoring the health and condition of breeding stock. Responsibilities may also include preparing facilities for breeding activities, providing care to pregnant or nursing animals, and ensuring compliance with animal welfare regulations. Strong attention to detail, a background in animal husbandry, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential. Familiarity with reproductive techniques and veterinary care is often preferred.

Assist in the facilitation of breeding operations by coordinating the transfer of genetic material across sequential breeding phases.

Provide support in the meticulous preparation, accurate labeling, and secure storage of materials, ensuring efficient handling and timely dispatch for expedited advancement processes.

Ensure meticulous documentation of all breeding materials to maintain precise records.

Facilitate the efficient and timely movement of selected material across greenhouse, nursery, and breeding pipeline stages.

Cross-docking and seed logistics coordination, including the receipt, temporary storage, and dispatch of agricultural seeds while ensuring adherence to quality control standards and regulatory compliance throughout the supply chain process.

Prepare and organize all necessary materials for breeding operations, including seed packets, crossing kits, envelopes, and labels, ensuring efficient workflow and accessibility.

Contribute to seed sorting, packaging, reconciliation, and dispatch processes to support crossing and advancement initiatives.

Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records and monitoring the lineage of parental lines, cross progenies, and advanced breeding materials to guarantee their identity and traceability throughout the breeding process.

Oversee the organization and upkeep of seed inventories and supplies essential to breeding operations, ensuring efficient management and accessibility.

Accelerate the pace of early-generation cycle iterations through efficient workflows and streamlined processes.

Provide support in managing materials derived from high-throughput crossing programs, encompassing progenies from initial-generation crosses and associated advancement materials.

Facilitate the prompt and precise transfer of breeding materials between operational stages to reduce potential bottlenecks in the workflow.

Assist in the ongoing preparation of documentation required for routine crossings and progressions within the RCGS workflow framework.

Assist in maintaining the consistency of materials throughout breeding cycles and transitions between breeding generations.

The trial kits will be managed and coordinated to ensure efficient organization, distribution, and tracking in accordance with established protocols.

Collaborate with the Trialing Research Associate to assemble trial kits, generate labels, prepare materials, and compile documentation essential for conducting multi-site sparse testing.

Guarantee the accurate and timely packing and dispatch of all essential field trial materials, including seeds and plot QR code labels.

Collaborate with field teams, breeders, and logistics personnel to facilitate the seamless distribution of trial kits to partners.

Maintain comprehensive checklists and inventories for all kits and materials dispatched.

Maintaining accurate records and documentation constitutes a fundamental responsibility for this position.

Accurately document all aspects of the breeding process, such as the specific dates for crossing, dispatch, and sparse testing, along with related activities including trial planting, harvesting, data return, and material movement.

Maintain meticulous documentation of all genetic materials and experimental procedures within the EBS system.

Assist with basic data entry and file organization related to breeding operations.

Quality assurance, traceability, and reporting require comprehensive support documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Foster partnerships with researchers to drive innovative solutions.

Collaborate effectively with the Plant Breeder and other scientific professionals to execute the operational components of the RCGS initiative.

Assist in implementing breeding strategies derived from genomic selection decisions to ensure their practical application in breeding programs.

Liaise with breeders to confirm the timely preparation and seamless progression of selected materials throughout the pipeline.

Analyze operational processes to identify bottlenecks, delays, losses, or inefficiencies in material handling, providing actionable feedback to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Seed Science, Plant Breeding, Agronomy, or a related discipline is required.

Extensive hands-on involvement with seed management, nursery operations, or agricultural research within a large-scale plant breeding initiative is essential.

Proven experience in the facilitation of breeding programs, execution of crossing activities, or management of germplasm logistics.

Possesses a comprehensive understanding of dryland crops, including sorghum, pearl millet, and finger millet.

Experienced with seed labeling, inventory management, or breeding pipeline tracking.

Proven capability to thrive in a high-pressure research setting while effectively managing concurrent deadlines.

Open to undertaking occasional travel to partner locations as required.
