Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the interns’ assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Planning, Finance, and Economy Section the interns will:

 Supporting the development of the technical and normative outputs of the Planning, Finance, and Economy Section by assisting in gathering data, analyzing, and contributing to the preparation of reports and technical documents, preparation of presentations, and other dissemination materials.
Support capacity building on a variety of planning themes.
Assist in the development of content and methodology on inclusive and sustainable urban planning and development.
Provide GIS support to planning and design inputs to ongoing planning initiatives, including citywide strategies, extension plans, and urban transformation plans.
Develop clear planning proposals, drawings, maps, and related reports as well as materials for GIS, data analysis, and visualization.

Specific Duties:

Support the development of territorial, urban planning, and GIS inputs for Urban Development Policies,
Strategies, Plans, and Projects.
Development of GIS training materials and workshops.
Support the designated, Urban Planning, Finance, and Economy Sections, and Programmes in mainstreaming ecological and social resilience in the planning system, urban plans at various levels, workshops, surveys, assessments, training, and seminars, to steer urban and territorial planning
toward climate adaptation and social inclusion goals.
Assist in the development of content and methodology on inclusive and sustainable urban planning and development.
Assist in the SDG’s localization in urban planning policy frameworks, guidelines, policies, and presentations through identification and review of relevant publications and documents, drafting and commenting on documents, and assisting in producing information materials.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent
Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies:

Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Sciences or Architecture or GIS technologies, or related field that is relevant to sustainable urban development and urban planning and design.
