The Technical Manager for Ornamentals and Professional Pest Management (PPM) is responsible for designing and implementing Tangent Professional Solutions’ technical support strategy across critical East African markets. This position enhances the technical positioning of both existing and upcoming products, executes high-caliber trial programs, and offers specialized guidance to commercial teams.

This position involves cultivating and sustaining robust partnerships with customers, influencers, researchers, channel collaborators, and internal stakeholders to uphold exceptional technical support standards and reinforce Tangent’s standing as a reliable provider of solutions. Additionally, the role plays a key part in discovering emerging technologies, third-party prospects, and potential portfolio expansions that drive business expansion.

This role is based in Nairobi with extensive travel requirements throughout East Africa.

Accountabilities

Provide assistance to the SPS Business Manager – Sub-Saharan Africa in formulating and implementing the five-year strategic plan alongside annual business and campaign plans.

Design, execute, and oversee technical support trials in accordance with crop and public health strategies, while ensuring alignment with the allocated budget under the supervision of the SPS Business Manager.

Conduct thorough technical evaluations and strategic positioning of both new and existing products by performing comprehensive assessments, such as competitive benchmarking and market trend analysis.

Facilitate dynamic technical training sessions and engagement initiatives for customers, influencers, and partners by organizing field days, demonstration sites, workshops, and industry events.

Work closely with the Territory Product Biologist, Regulatory Manager, and regulatory teams across key markets to align development initiatives and registration strategies.

Construct and nurture a robust network comprising industry leaders, researchers, and key internal stakeholders to drive innovation, exchange valuable insights, and uncover emerging opportunities.

Spearhead the creation of comprehensive technical content—such as brochures, presentations, technical bulletins, and media articles—to enhance product understanding and drive sales.

Gather, evaluate, and disseminate market intelligence to guide strategic planning, uncover potential opportunities and risks, and strengthen both offensive and defensive business initiatives.

Efficiently oversee the technical support budget while maximizing the strategic allocation of available resources.

Critical success factors include the ability to navigate key challenges effectively.

Develop and implement a comprehensive technical support framework to facilitate the successful deployment of the SPS portfolio.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of five years of experience in software development, with proficiency in languages such as Java, Python, or C++. Strong problem-solving abilities and expertise in algorithm design and optimization. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps practices is essential. Familiarity with database management systems (SQL, NoSQL) and version control tools (Git) is required.
