Key Result Areas:

Investment Teams spearhead the evaluation of potential acquisitions, executing thorough due diligence before finalizing investments, and subsequently managing these assets throughout their tenure within the portfolio. The Sustainability Manager plays a pivotal role in this process, contributing to due diligence while also participating in the continuous management, monitoring, and enhancement of the fund manager’s assets. The investment portfolio primarily comprises core infrastructure assets, including toll roads, airports, ports, and renewable energy projects such as wind, hydro, and solar farms. Additionally, it encompasses medium to large enterprises operating across the African continent.

You will oversee and manage key responsibilities including, but not limited to, ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and optimizing workflow processes to enhance productivity. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive project objectives, monitoring performance metrics, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Additionally, you will be tasked with overseeing budget allocation, managing stakeholder communications, and implementing strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals. Strong analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and a results-driven mindset will be essential to succeed in this position.

Interpreting the fund manager’s operational framework and contributing to the establishment of the ESG and impact strategy as the primary liaison for the fund manager.

Interpret, advance, and enhance, as needed, the environmental and social governance frameworks of the fund manager.

Provide assistance to investment teams in conducting ESG due diligence to assess whether potential investments comply with OMAR’s ESG criteria, which include adherence to UN PRI, the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS and Sector Guidelines, as well as ILO standards and other applicable frameworks.

Deliver specialized knowledge across diverse industries and investment categories to adeptly oversee ESG risks while fostering the realization of meaningful, beneficial outcomes.

Evaluate the sustainability dimensions of projects and provide support to specialists throughout project execution and adherence to contractual obligations concerning the sustainability criteria of the various funds’ assets.

Assist asset managers in overseeing and guiding the implementation of sustainability obligations for assigned assets, which may involve on-site visits and direct interactions with management teams to foster alignment and progress.

Compilation and distribution of investor and sustainability reports, in addition to addressing ad-hoc investor/shareholder ESG-related inquiries and managing client engagement.

Sustainability data is collected, managed, and analyzed to generate actionable insights tailored for both internal stakeholders and external clients.

Investment teams receive comprehensive training on sustainability-related topics, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to address pertinent issues in the field.

Ensure adherence to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) requirements in fund management to maintain regulatory compliance and align with sustainability objectives.

Serves as OMAR’s designated spokesperson, representing the organization in public settings to discuss and advocate for initiatives centered on sustainability.

Serve as OMAR’s delegate in governance forums and committees, representing the organization’s interests with professionalism and strategic insight.

Drive strategic insights and develop innovative thought leadership solutions and deliverables.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Minimum of two years of professional experience in cybersecurity, network administration, or a comparable technical discipline is necessary. Proficiency in network security protocols, vulnerability assessment tools, and incident response procedures is essential. Familiarity with SIEM systems, firewalls, and endpoint protection solutions is also required. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are critical, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of relevant compliance frameworks, such as NIST or ISO 27001, is advantageous.

Hold a degree or possess substantial expertise in disciplines such as environmental science, sustainability studies, social sciences, or related fields.

With a minimum of ten years of hands-on experience in the field, candidates are expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. This extensive background ensures the ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver impactful results with confidence and precision.

French-speaking candidates must possess strong proficiency in both spoken and written French, with fluency considered a significant advantage. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with French-speaking clients or stakeholders. Additional requirements include experience in customer service or client-facing roles, ensuring seamless interactions. Suitable professional registration or certification must be obtained as a prerequisite for this position.

Proficiency in UN PRI, Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS Guidelines, ILO conventions, UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and other pertinent sustainability frameworks and best practices is required.

Professionals should possess a strong background in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, encompassing Environmental and Social (ES) Screening, ES Impact Assessments (Elias), ES Due Diligence, Risk Assessment, and ES Management Systems (SMS). Additionally, expertise in leveraging specialized knowledge in biodiversity, biophysical sciences, and socio-economic factors is essential, with a particular emphasis on climate change initiatives spanning mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Professionals should possess experience or understanding of sustainability considerations relevant to capital-intensive infrastructure ventures, including oil and gas, thermal power generation, renewable energy initiatives, transportation networks, port developments, and similar large-scale projects.

Professional experience is required in developing, executing, and overseeing environmental and social management frameworks and strategies tailored to the unique demands of construction and operational enterprises.
