About Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi)

The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DND) is a non-profit, independent organization founded in 2003 by five government-supported research institutions—the Malaysian Ministry of Health, Kenya Medical Research Institute, Indian Council of Medical Research, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in Brazil, and the Institute Pasteur—as well as the international humanitarian group Médecins sans frontières. The UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) holds permanent observer status. Leveraging a strong research pipeline, DND focuses on discovering, developing, and delivering new, accessible, and effective treatments for neglected diseases, including leishmaniasis, human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), Charas disease, malaria, filarial diseases, pediatric HIV, myeloma, and hepatitis C, which disproportionately impact the world’s most vulnerable populations.
