Senior Thematic Advisor, BBC Media Action

Job Introduction
BBC Media Action works with media and communications to help people have their say, understand their rights, responsibilities and each other, and take action to transform their own lives. We do this through our focus on health, governance and rights, resilience and humanitarian response, partnering with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences and strengthen the media sector.
This post will provide leadership to further BBC Media Action’s strategies and support on the area of economic security and opportunity.
Role Responsibility

Improve the quality of projects that BBC Media Action delivers by developing and articulating evidence-based strategies and approaches and providing expert advice on how the organisation can be innovative and achieve impact on economic security and opportunity.
Work closely with BBC Media Action teams to improve the quality of project delivery, research and evidence generation and learning around economic security and opportunity.
Play a lead role engaging with influential external stakeholders about the potential of media and communication for economic security and BBC Media Action’s offer.  This will involve representing BBC Media Action externally (through high-level meetings and public presentations), forging relationships with major external partners, stakeholders and funding bodies.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will bring knowledge, expertise and leadership on how media and communication in a development context or humanitarian crisis can best support individuals, households and communities in the following areas: employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship, job skills, including soft skills, technical and vocational education and training, financial literacy, cash transfers and social protection schemes, and labour rights and governance issues related to economic security.
Knowledge, understanding and experience of how media and communication can achieve impact in these areas with an approach sensitive to climate change and the environment, the impact of COVID and related restrictions, and among marginalised groups, including women and girls, young people, and migrants would be a particular advantage.
