    Main Responsibilities and Tasks

    Support to Health programme development and planning in Garissa ZO

    Conduct and update the situation analysis for the development, design and management of health-related programmes in Garissa ZO.
    Contribute to the development and establishment of Health programme goals, objectives, strategies, and results-based planning in Garissa ZO.

    Conduct regular programme field visits and surveys, and share information with partners and stakeholders to assess progress and provide technical support and/or refer to relevant officials for resolution. Report on critical issues, bottlenecks and potential problems for timely action to achieve results.
    Provide technical and operational support to county government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners, and other country office partners/donors on the application and understanding of UNICEF policies, strategies, processes, and best practices on health-related issues to support programme implementation, operations and delivery of results.

     Networking and partnership building in Garissa ZO, with focus on the Garissa ZO supported counties.

    Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with health sector county government counterparts and county stakeholders/partners through active sharing of information and knowledge to enhance programme implementation and build capacity of stakeholders to deliver concrete and sustainable results.
    Draft communication and information materials for CO and Garissa ZO programme advocacy to promote awareness, establish partnerships/alliances, and support fund raising for health programmes.
    Participate in appropriate technical and coordination working groups on health programmes to collaborate with partners/colleagues and preparation of health programmes/projects, and to integrate and harmonize UNICEF’s position and strategies counties’ development and planning process.

    Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building for Health programming in Garissa ZO.

    Identify, capture, synthesize, and share lessons learned for knowledge development and to build the capacity of stakeholders.
    Apply innovative approaches and promote good practices to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results.

    Minimum requirements:

    Work Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public health/nutrition planning and management, health policy, maternal and neonatal health care, primary health care and community health, and/or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
    Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset. 
    Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.

    Responsibilities:

    Ensure that the workplace is safe and compliant with health and safety regulations. To participate in planning safety and health (and other) meetings to identify any health and safety concerns inherent in the operation’s daily work plan. The safety officer will work closely with the management team to develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Project Planning & Implementation Technical support

    Identify and implement viable sanitation and Hygiene promotion technological options within the project area of operations  
    Develop detailed implementation plans and monitor implementation of Sanitation and hygiene project activities in the area of operation  
    Provide support in implementation of Market-based Sanitation and Hygiene approach to ensure quality, effectiveness and timely implementation.

    Contribute to internal learning and knowledge management processes, including regular performance monitoring, programme reviews and evaluations of the WASH business centre.
    Collaborate with other programs within area of operation to achieve proposed child and community well-being outcomes through market- based, Menstrual hygiene management, sanitation and hygiene initiatives;
    Support in policy formulation and Capacity building of the Community based organization running the WASH business centre.

    Quality Assurance

    Collect, analyze, interpret and compile reports that communicate gaps in the WASH business centres.
    Record number of people trained and reached by several hygiene promotion messages and behavior change.
    To record all community contributions either in materials, cash form etc and estimate their local monetary value.
    Develop monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and end of projects reports on Sanitation & hygiene and ensure that the reports are prepared in a timely manner and in accordance with WV Kenya and Donor requirements.

    Promote advocacy on sanitation and Hygiene issues within the programme area.
    Participate in Sanitation and Hygiene coordination and other meetings as may be required in the programme area Liaison with the County government in identification of areas of collaboration and scale in WASH access.
    Engage with key stakeholders, Community, government, church and other civil society representatives within the AP in order to maximize the impact of project efforts.

  • Consultant Paediatrician

    The job holder will be expected to provide quality Paediatric services to both outpatients and inpatients; and assist in ensuring smooth operations in the clinical department and contribute positively to business strategy.

    What You Will Do

    Skills and Capacity Building (Initially 70% of your time, but this will be reduced as capacity is built)

    Draft protocols in relation to development of our neonatal nursery in accordance with risk specifications of the hospital;
    Draft protocols in relation to handling of paediatric patients in relation to outpatient services;
    Provide training to our clinical workforce and assist with curriculum development to promote continuous training and monitoring, provided via the Clinical Educator;

    Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history;
