    Job description
    The successful candidate will work with the Senior Research Scientist to coordinate entomological collections in the field while overseeing field workers, perform bioassays on field collected mosquitoes and support laboratory and insectary-based activities.
    Job Specification

    Perform entomological sample collection, processing, preservation, storage, and shipment.
    Perform routine laboratory procedures including PCR and ELISA
    Perform bioassays on field collected and lab reared mosquitoes.
    Mosquito rearing and insectary maintenance.
    Follow and ensure proper compliance with protocol procedures and institutional guidelines.
    Maintenance of study documentation and records.
    Support the drafting of SOPs, operations manuals, quality assurance documentation, training materials and others.
    Attend all required trainings and ensure activities are carried out in accordance to stipulated guidance from Senior Research Scientist.
    Train, guide and supervise field workers in the field and laboratory.
    Assist in planning, organizing, and undertaking of field activities.
    Manage and monitor equipment, reagents, consumables, and other resources needed for research activities.
    Oversee data entry and data cleaning in timely manner.

    Position Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in any area of biological sciences with preference to medical entomology.
    At least one-year previous field and insectary experience working on mosquitoes.

    Skills and abilities

    Demonstrated knowledge of mosquito morphology, biology and ecology will be added advantage.
    Knowledge in mosquito taxonomy, dissection procedures and other bioassays is highly desirable.
    Excellent team player and willingness to work odd hours including early mornings, and late evenings.
    High proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

    Terms of Employment: This is a one-year contract renewable t as per KEMRI scheme of service with probation in the first three months.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Bring a community nutrition/public health lens to nutri-sensitive “Food Systems Transformation” approach applied by ICRISAT in project development, planning, and implementation.
    Provide support on technical issues related to health (i.e., malnutrition, anemia, lifestyle diseases etc.), nutrition, dietary behavior, agri-food environments towards promoting nutri-sensitive Food Systems /value chains, globally;
    Design and undertake dietary and nutrition assessments using mixed methods to support development of nutrition-specific/sensitive agricultural interventions for improving household diet quality and nutrition especially for women and children;
    Conduct research on issues associated with increasing consumption of grain legumes and dryland cereals, food and nutrition, dietary quality and dietary diversity;
    Implement community-based initiatives to increase awareness on linkages between agriculture, nutrition, hygiene, and health with emphasis on production, processing/cooking and consumption of safe and nutritious grain legumes, dryland cereals and oil seeds crops and other foods;
    Contribute to develop and implement monitoring/nutritional assessment (i.e., baseline, midline, endline anthropometry studies) and evaluation plans, sampling and study design, and analytical protocols for nutrition-specific/sensitive agricultural interventions;
    Closely collaborate with project partners to set up a behavior change communication (BCC) team in planning, implementing, and monitoring of nutrition activities and interventions;
    Contribute to research, and develop standards and guidelines for food safety and hygiene to ensure safety and hygiene across: production, transportation, storage and handling of raw materials and cooked/processed products, from the human health aspect;
    Develop, maintain and strengthen partnerships for research and development in agriculture, food and nutrition, postharvest and gender and youth programming aspects, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa;
    Contribute to the development of survey materials/ focus group discussions (FGDs), training materials, tools and facilitate capacity building on nutrition and improving household dietary diversity and resilience;
    Contribute to ICRISAT’s knowledge sharing and capacity strengthening activities with respect to ICRISAT’s ”Nutrition, Dietary Behavior and Smart Food” cluster initiatives, especially in SubSaharan Africa;
    Assist the Global Research Program Director – Enabling Systems Transformation, Regional Director, East and Southern Africa and Institute’s Leadership to mobilize new financial resources by way of externally funded nutrition related projects to sustain the Institute’s activities globally;
    Facilitate other ICRISAT scientists, project partners as well as donors and development partner visits to project sites;
    Build technical capacity in local communities to assist target project districts in developing an approach to guide the implementation of nutrition interventions. Mentor NARS, NGO scaling partner staff, and student interns in relevant areas of community nutrition research;
    Assist in writing high-quality peer reviewed articles and publish in high impact factor publications; Develop productive partnerships to further ICRISAT’s “Nutrition, Dietary Diversity and Smart Food” cluster” and its 3 Global Research Programs and actively participate in regional and international nutrition and health research communities and networks;
    Perform other related duties as assigned by the Cluster Leader for “Nutrition, Dietary Diversity and Smart Food” and immediate functional Supervisor.

    Program Specific Skills:

    Proven ability in using nutrition R&D tools and study designs to generate evidence for public health nutrition research and apply evidence-based nutrition interventions.
    Proven experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection, computation, and statistical analysis, preferably with a research and development organization implementing integrated agriculture-nutrition-health related projects.
    Knowledge and proven experience on undertaking anthropometric studies in children under 5 years old, as per WHO recommendations: organization of an anthropometric survey, field work procedures, data processing, quality assessment, analysis, and reporting, will be an added advantage.
    A good track record in achieving impact and producing high quality technical reports/publications.
    Experience in networking with multiple project partners in the field of nutrition and health. Ability to speak and write English fluently, with very good working knowledge of French will be desirable.
    A self-starter and ability to plan and work independently with minimal supervision.
    Possess demonstrated strategic thinking and time management skills.
    Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team in a multi-cultural environment and should be able to interact effectively with project partners and service providers.

    Requirements:

    A PhD in community nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, or related discipline from a recognized institution with a minimum of four (4) years working experience in international studies being desirable.
    At least five (5) years working experience in international agricultural or nutrition research with practical hands-on experience in community/public health etc. interventions.
    Experience in developing and implementing projects addressing malnutrition and anemia (especially among women and children in vulnerable communities) and lifestyle diseases through food/nutrition based approaches.
    Experience in ‘linking agriculture to nutrition and health’ is a distinct advantage.
    Experience in an international and multi-disciplinary/cultural environment is an asset.

    Main responsibilities

    Leads the preparation of resource mobilization (RM) action plans, based on the Alliance’s RM strategy and Research Areas (i.e. Levers) priorities, with a focus on funder acquisition, funder retention, and improving the organization’s fundraising success rate.
    Ensures cross-Lever prioritization and synergies for proposal preparation and submission.

    Quality controls a representative sample of proposals from across all Levers to increase proposal success and reduce reputational liabilities.
     Enhances the RM capacity development efforts for Alliance staff.

     Requirements
    Education qualifications and experience

    Master’s degree in associated field (International development, Political Science, Business Administration, Agriculture, Environment).
    Full command of English, and proven high-level verbal and written skills.
    Advanced knowledge of Spanish and/or French is desirable.
    Minimum of 10 years of proven experience and successful track record in resource mobilization in agriculture, environment, rural development, and/or natural or social sciences.

    This position’s key responsibilities are:

    End to end development, implementation and certification of quality management systems across all functions.
    Ensure one hundred per cent quality assurance of raw and packaging materials, processes and finished products.

    SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible and accountable for the following Core job elements:

    Direct, oversee and manage the Quality Assurance (QA) and support research and development (R&D) functions of the organization.
    Develop a quality culture within the organization by training multifunctional teams on quality requirements, recruiting and supervising qualified and talented quality personnel.

    EDUCATION AND COLLATERAL REQUIREMENTS:

    BSc in Chemistry or related field from a recognized university.
    A master’s degree in analytical chemistry or Industrial chemistry preferred.
    Eight (8) or more years of experience in a busy QC laboratory with hands on experience in raw and packing material testing, in-process testing, finished products testing and certification. Experience with a variety of testing equipment required.
    Thorough knowledge of quality assurance methodologies and standards. Experienced, conversant with instrumental analysis, wet chemistry, microbiological and physical analysis including accurate interpretation of results of internal and outsourced analysis.
    Knowledgeable about all safety standards that are customary within the biotechnology extraction and refining industry.
    Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Sound knowledge of GMP, GLP, analysis. Is conversant with biotechnology product regulations and implementation of quality management system, troubleshooting and root cause investigation experience.
    Self-starter. Meets tight deadlines and exhibit a high degree of flexibility and versatility. Has strong organizational and planning skills. Works on multiple projects and adapts to changing priorities.

    The Quantitative Genetics Specialist will support developing world breeders to achieve higher rates of genetic gain and extract maximum value from new and proven technologies, tools, and services. The successful candidate will have a strong background and experience in quantitative genetics and biometrics with a deep understanding of how to manipulate plant breeding schemes by using the latest technologies. The successful candidate will work within the ABI Quantitative Genetics team, across CGIAR centers – in a wide range of regions and crops – to optimize breeding schemes according to elements of the breeder’s equation in order to achieve the highest possible rate of genetic gain per dollar invested and per unit of time using simulation technologies, optimization and applied quantitative genetics experience, among other means. The holder of the position will report to the ABI Quantitative Genetics Lead.
    By providing one-on-one consultation, workshops, and online communication via the platform’s purpose-built ‘toolbox,’ the successful candidate will contribute to raising standards of breeding operations at CGIAR and NARS breeding programs in line with targets set by ABI.
    The position will be based at CIMMYT-Nairobi Campus in Kenya, involving significant international travel.
    Specific duties:

    Expertise in statistical analysis software (R, mixed modeling, perhaps machine learning, etc.) and a creative and innovative mindset.

    At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of urban development and planning (and/or related fields) is required;

    Track-record in chemical ecology and interdisciplinary research in tropical insect science.
