    Duties and responsibilities:

    Pursuant to the provisions of section 35G of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Cap 244 Laws of Kenya the Board of management shall perform the following functions:
    administer the property and funds of the Laboratory in such manner and for such purposes as shall, in the opinion of the Board of Management, promote its best interests; 
    receive, on behalf of the Laboratory, grants-in-aid, gifts, donations, fees, subscriptions or other moneys and make disbursements therefrom; 
    make regulations governing the appointment, conduct and discipline of employees of the Laboratory; 
    in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, to draw up a scheme of service for employees of the Laboratory; 
    administer the approved terms and conditions of service, including appointments, dismissals, remuneration and retiring benefits of employees of the Laboratory; and 
    appoint such employees upon terms and conditions to be laid down by the Board of Management, after consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, as it considers necessary for the proper and efficient administration of the Laboratory. 

    Person Specifications:
    For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

    Be a Kenyan Citizen.
    Holds at least a Bachelor’s Degree from an institution recognized in Kenya.
    Master’s degree in Pharmacy or Management will be an added advantage
    Has not served in the NQCL as an employee in the preceding five years
    Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Preparation and packaging of drugs ready for dispensing to patients;
    Monthly ordering/Procurement of drugs from our suppliers;
    Keeping a formulary of essential drugs to avoid wastage;

    Key Qualifications and Competencies:

    Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology;
    At least 3 years’ experience.;
    Must have registration certificate from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB);
    Valid practicing license;
    Good report writing and analytical skills;
    Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
    Good communication, leadership and interpersonal skills;

    The Position

    The position is domiciled in the Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics in the Faculty of Health Sciencies, under the Monitor and Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance in Kenya (MAPAMR Kenya) Project. This is a five (5) year CDC project that will be conducted in three (3) hospitals: namely Kenyatta National Hospital, The Nairobi Hospital and The National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital.

    Location

    This is a full time position based at the University of Nairobi, Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics, its holder reports to the Project Principal Investigator.

    Duties and Resposnbilites

     

    Support the implementation of IPC recommendations and AMR stewardship action plans in the project health facilities to assist with antibiotic selection for common clinical conditions
    Participate in the development of SOPs, clinician handbooks, mentorship framework and guideline documents
    Assist in the development of campaign material on the risk of AMR as per the project’s objectives
    Support the coordination of AMR surveillance activities
    Support data collection on antimicrobial consumption and use in the project sites
    Support the delivery of trainings aimed at building laboratories capacities to undertake AMR surveillance
    Assist the Prncipal Investigator and the project’s Technical Experts to prepare technical progress reports on project implementation and achievements
    Support the implementation of other AMR related projects

    Job Specifications

    Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree, recognised by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board
    Registration with Kenya’s Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB)
    A valid Pharmacy practice license
    At least one (1) year of experience working with donor-funded projects or clinical research
