    Duties and responsibilities:

    Pursuant to the provisions of section 35G of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Cap 244 Laws of Kenya the Board of management shall perform the following functions:
    administer the property and funds of the Laboratory in such manner and for such purposes as shall, in the opinion of the Board of Management, promote its best interests; 
    receive, on behalf of the Laboratory, grants-in-aid, gifts, donations, fees, subscriptions or other moneys and make disbursements therefrom; 
    make regulations governing the appointment, conduct and discipline of employees of the Laboratory; 
    in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, to draw up a scheme of service for employees of the Laboratory; 
    administer the approved terms and conditions of service, including appointments, dismissals, remuneration and retiring benefits of employees of the Laboratory; and 
    appoint such employees upon terms and conditions to be laid down by the Board of Management, after consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, as it considers necessary for the proper and efficient administration of the Laboratory. 

    Person Specifications:
    For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

    Be a Kenyan Citizen.
    Holds at least a Bachelor’s Degree from an institution recognized in Kenya.
    Master’s degree in Pharmacy or Management will be an added advantage
    Has not served in the NQCL as an employee in the preceding five years
    Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

    Liaise with all departments and the hygiene team to ensure 100%compliance to GMP.
    Perform detailed inspection of manufactured products against product specifications.
    Report findings of quality issues.

    Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed medications and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; preparing labels and removing outdated drugs.
    Check the expiry dates of pharmacy drugs and adhering to the SOPs in place.
    Safeguard pharmacy stocks and conduct stock takes as per the standard operating procedures.

    Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
    Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of all the changes that occur in the Pharmaceutical field.

    Responsibilities

    Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
    Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
    Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
    Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
    Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix certain intravenous medications as per laid down procedures.

    Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
    Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
    Compile daily satellite reports.
    Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
    Report any special indicators allocated.
    Maintain and update personal drug knowledge data base to ensure accurate provision of pharmaceutical care of general disease states as well as specialized knowledge in the assigned area of expertise

    Requirements

    Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
    Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
    1 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital
    Computer literate
    Able to communicate with medical professionals
    Able to work with a team of people from various backgrounds and training

    Key Responsibilities:

    Preparation and packaging of drugs ready for dispensing to patients;
    Monthly ordering/Procurement of drugs from our suppliers;
    Keeping a formulary of essential drugs to avoid wastage;
    Directing patients with prescriptions accordingly to the relevant departments for their clearance;
    Dispensing drugs to patients with approved prescriptions;
    Ensure good order in the dispensing and store room;
    Keep up to date records of drugs in the system as prescribed;
    Use of FIFO (first in first out) basis in dispensing drugs;
    Use of FEFO (first expiry first out) basis;
    Record of Antibiotics consumption and other drugs;
    Records of injections on a daily basis;
    Issue Pharmacy reports to the Health Centre Manager at the end of each month 

    which should also include:

    Coartem monthly consumption (malarial drug)
    ARVS monthly consumption.
    Assist the auditors to take the stocktaking at the end of each year;
    Supervise all activities in the pharmacy store and report any anomalies to the Health Centre Manager;
    Any other task that may be assigned from time to time.

    Key Qualifications and Competencies:

    Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology;
    At least 3 years’ experience.;
    Must have registration certificate from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB);
    Valid practicing license;
    Good report writing and analytical skills;
    Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
    Good communication, leadership and interpersonal skills;
    Excellent store management/Procurement skills preferred

    The Position

    The position is domiciled in the Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics in the Faculty of Health Sciencies, under the Monitor and Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance in Kenya (MAPAMR Kenya) Project. This is a five (5) year CDC project that will be conducted in three (3) hospitals: namely Kenyatta National Hospital, The Nairobi Hospital and The National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital.

    Location

    This is a full time position based at the University of Nairobi, Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics, its holder reports to the Project Principal Investigator.

    Duties and Resposnbilites

     

    Support the implementation of IPC recommendations and AMR stewardship action plans in the project health facilities to assist with antibiotic selection for common clinical conditions
    Participate in the development of SOPs, clinician handbooks, mentorship framework and guideline documents
    Assist in the development of campaign material on the risk of AMR as per the project’s objectives
    Support the coordination of AMR surveillance activities
    Support data collection on antimicrobial consumption and use in the project sites
    Support the delivery of trainings aimed at building laboratories capacities to undertake AMR surveillance
    Assist the Prncipal Investigator and the project’s Technical Experts to prepare technical progress reports on project implementation and achievements
    Support the implementation of other AMR related projects

    Job Specifications

    Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree, recognised by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board
    Registration with Kenya’s Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB)
    A valid Pharmacy practice license
    At least one (1) year of experience working with donor-funded projects or clinical research
    Demonstrate high level of integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality, and possesion excellent communication skills; a team player with report writing and analytical skills

    Tenure and Terms of Appointment
