    INTRODUCTION & MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
    Greenpeace Africa is stepping into the most hotly contested development issue in Africa – agriculture. African agriculture will either follow the chemical intensive industrial model which would hand control of the sector to global agribusiness, or support smallholder African farmers to use locally available resources to grow diverse and healthy food. You would be joining a campaign team to provide campaign expertise with respect to a specialized campaign issue in relation to organic farming, biodiversity, geo-mapping, plastics and waste management, and anti-coal and renewable energy solutions. Staying abreast of the latest developments of the issues and related policy space. In doing so, working with project teammates to develop and implement effective project plans and strategies to bring positive changes to an environmental problem.
    Main responsibilities
    1. Strategy Development
    Provide expertise and input, on the development of the campaign strategy, campaign projects, and funding proposals, where relevant; and keep abreast of the external debate and trends in order to identify campaign/public engagement opportunities, and ensure the campaign strategy has realistic objectives whilst maintaining viability and potential.
    2. Campaign Project Management
    Manage specific projects within the campaign to a successful conclusion. Include appropriate internal and external actors. Project work is likely to involve all or some of the following techniques (often involving teamwork): public communication and engagement activities, media work, collaboration with other organisations, research, political and corporate work and the use of legal and scientific approaches to issues.
    3. Greenpeace Representation
    Represent Greenpeace at relevant meetings/conferences with external bodies such as media, industry, governments, NGOs, and major donors/foundations, in order to further the agreed campaign objectives.
    4. Research Coordination
    Identify commission and coordinate background investigations/ research and science needs. Provide general direction for such investigations/research and science, and participate in subsequently identifying realistic focal points/targets for the
    Campaign strategy.
    5. External Networks
    Develop and maintain relationships with external parties such as key allies, academics, media, activists, industry, political fora, and other NGOs, in support of the campaign objectives, to ensure maximum interaction and influence with external parties to support achievement of agreed campaign objectives.
    6. Reporting
    Coordinate and produce internal and external reports on campaign activities as required, to ensure audiences receive consistent and relevant campaign information, in order to increase and maintain interest in the campaign.
    7. Publications
    Prepare and oversee production and distribution of campaign publications/videos in cooperation with campaign team members and the engagement/communications unit These should be within the agreed budget and timelines, ensuring availability of materials consistent with and in support of campaign goals.
    Skills required / qualifications
    Required:

    University degree in related field to the campaign
    Minimum 3 years of years of strategic campaign planning experience or work experience in the relevant campaign area
    2 – 3 year experience of campaigning on environmental social justice issues, and an understanding of how campaigning can achieve change
    Have a track record of implementing campaigns within local and international teams. Able to represent and communicate for campaigns in diverse fora.
    Understanding of the importance of direct action (NVDA) in campaigning
    Ability to analyse environmental issues in terms of campaign opportunities and in terms of overall strategic objectives
    Ability to understand the use of information in support of campaign objectives.
    Experience & confidence in presentation/public speaking.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Vital Signs is an integrated Monitoring System that intends to guide policy and decision making and monitor their outcomes to ensure that agricultural development does not unduly degrade natural ecosystems and the services they provide. The monitoring system is currently being implemented in, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya.
    Vital Signs has partnered with the GEF and IFAD to develop a monitoring and assessment platform for the GEF Food Security Integrated Approach Pilot Program. The program has three components: (i) strengthening of institutional frameworks to promote integrated approaches in smallholder agriculture; (ii) promote scaling-up of interventions for sustainability and resilience; and (iii) ensure effective monitoring of ecosystem services and global environmental benefits through application of innovative tools and practices. The program will be implemented in twelve African countries (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Swaziland, Tanzania and Uganda).
    Vital Signs is seeking the services of a Remote Sensing Analyst to support the Monitoring and Assessment component of the program. The Remote Sensing Analyst will compile, analyze, interpret, manage, and distribute remote sensing imagery (MODIS, Landsat, Digital Globe). S/he will play a lead role in ensuring that baseline land cover maps are compiled and that land cover trends are analyzed at project and regional scales.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    S/he will have the following main responsibilities:

    Develop baseline land cover maps for all projects that have geo-referenced spatial boundaries at 30m and at very high resolution, where data are available.
    Develop a regional-scale land cover map (30m).
    Perform modelling and classification analyses using time-series datasets (e.g., climate, satellite, and reanalysis data) for ecosystem modelling and climate variability research, including generating customized code, based on R and Python, for large volume data processing and analysis.
    Capacity building for expanding the use of the data, methods and tools to other countries and regions.
    Contribute written input and technical guidance to the IAP project.
    Manage the highly visible, complex technical IAP project including meeting donor deadlines.
    Manage external partner relationships including development of capacity and generation of outputs to guide partners in making decisions.
    Contribute to reporting structures as laid out in the IAP documentation and the preparation of the Annual Work Plan and Budget.
    Undertake any other duties, within her/his area of competence, as assigned by CI as it relates to this project.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Typical office environment but may require working in remote Africa locations.
    Ability to work extended and irregular hours.
    Frequent travel over 30% may be necessary.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required

    Advanced degree in remote sensing, geography or earth science.
    Seven (7) or more years of experience in scientific research and/or managing remote sensing or research projects or initiatives.
    Demonstrated scientific writing experience, including peer-reviewed publications.
    Proven ability in successfully interpreting and applying scientific information, data, models and developing creative solutions to achieve practical results.
    Proven track record in project management design and implementation.
    Proven team player able to work effectively across cultures and within and across organizations.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

    SOMALIA RESILIENCE ACTION (STREAM) CONSORTIUM
    The STREAM Consortium, established in early 2013, aims to provide a sustainable opportunity for resilience building for communities chronically affected by food insecurity and humanitarian crises in Lower Juba. Targeted communities will benefit through the delivery of predictable and regular cash transfers to vulnerable households, alongside investment in diverse livelihood bases and the provision of support and community led preparedness, early warning and timely response systems.
    Both ACTED and Adeso have extensive experience of and presence in humanitarian programming in Somalia, in particular in South-Central Somalia and Lower Juba.
    ACTED has been working in South-Central Somalia since 2009, and has developed strong relationships with communities and local authorities through the provision of food security, WASH and livelihood programming. ACTED Somalia’s areas of intervention are located in South Central Somalia, across the Juba’s (Middle and Lower), Bay and Gedo regions supported by an operational area office in Mogadishu. ACTED has operated emergency response programs, most notably offering vital humanitarian assistance during the 2011 drought, and is now moving towards resilience building.
    In 2012 the security context and constraints on programming in Dinsoor and Sakow forced the organization to make a decision to close these project sites and relocate activities to Baidoa, El Waq and Kismayo following needs assessments done in both areas. As a result, in 2013 ACTED adapted programming to support urban communities including IDPs, host and minority groups to enhance food security, strengthen livelihoods and improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene.
    Adeso, formerly known as Horn Relief, is an African-based organization established in 1991 in response to Somalia’s devastating humanitarian crisis and civil war. Adeso has been working in Somalia since 1994, and in this time has worked in Lower Juba (Dhobley, Afmadow, Kismayo and Badhaade districts) and Gedo Regions (El Waq, Luuq, Belet Hawa and Dollo districts), as well as in Galmadug, Bari, Sanaag, Mudug and Sool Regions in Puntland and Somaliland. The organization was been working with Somalia’s pastoralist groups, particularly women and youth, to prevent, manage and overcome situations that adversely affect a community’s well-being. Adeso’s Somali operations include 10 field offices delivering programs in five thematic areas: integrated food security, education, water and sanitation, natural resource management and humanitarian response interventions.
    POSITION SUMMARY
    The M&E Coordinator will act as the technical focal point on all aspects of monitoring and evaluation of STREAM Consortium. The M&E Coordinator will be responsible for establishing and implementing an effective system to monitor progress, impacts and successes of project activities and performance at all levels. The M&E Coordinator will be responsible for all MEAL related activities of the STREAM Consortium that aims to provide a sustainable opportunity for resilience building for communities chronically affected by food insecurity and humanitarian crises in Dhobley, Afmadow and Kismayo districts of Lower Juba region of Southern Somalia.
    The M&E Coordinator will also monitor all grant activities and ensure that the project complies with donor performance reporting requirements. S/he will conduct assessments, baseline studies, surveys and need assessments to identify necessary changes and future opportunities.
    POSITION PURPOSE

    M&E Coordinator will be line managed by the consortium coordinator and technically work with ACTED and Adeso M&E focal points; and will be responsible for project level activities in relation to monitoring of project activities, data management and analysis. The M&E coordinator will effectively use the available channels and ways to foster learning for sustainable capacity development through using the many innovative approaches that recognize the importance of learning in M&E, improve knowledge and the capacity process as well as recognizing results through making the management of the knowledge more adaptive and responsive.
    Working closely with project teams, he/she will support project monitoring and evaluation by providing and managing SSNP consortium databases and undertaking some project data management responsibilities including data collection, collation and analysis. The role involves providing technical support on design of thematic survey forms, data processing tools, management of data entry and validation, management and tracking project data using quantitative and qualitative data analysis basics.
    He/she will have the overall coordination and running of the M&E system at the Nairobi and field level; providing support and oversight for M&E Officers; visiting to assist with monitoring activities and provide technical guidance (particularly training of data collectors and methodology work); managing the project database; undertaking analysis and producing monitoring reports as needed; disseminating monitoring information; working across to bring together data from the two organizations together for analysis and reporting.
    The M&E Coordinator will be focal person in developing and managing the Program Measurement system, building the capacity of consortium staff and partners in M&E and supporting all consortium M&E and research-related activities of field projects.

    SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Making operational decisions and managing the various components of the program dealing with M&E;
    Managing data collection, analysis and reporting on performance indicators by project team members and project counterparts;
    Developing the Project Management Plan, setting out specific quantifiable performance indicators and targets for overall objectives and activities and establishing monitoring systems to measure project progress;
    Leading writing of quarterly technical and financial reports and assists the consortium coordinator in writing annual work plans;
    Utilizing critical inputs, feedback, and assessments from evaluation partners to inform changes in program approaches and scale-up.
    Helping standardize program measurement and M&E tools and systems and ensure the project has robust monitoring plan in place.
    Developing and actively managing donor performance monitoring plans, including working closely with external evaluators during donor assessments and evaluation;
    Working with Nairobi and field offices and program staff to ensure adequate M&E systems and quality controls are in place that meet donor requirements and the needs of the program;
    Managing Adeso’s Somalia project monitoring information system to ensure efficient and effective collection, entry, analysis and amalgamation of project data (both quantitative and qualitative) and proper reporting of the outcomes and impacts of all projects.
    Building the capacity of Monitoring and Evaluation staff to analyze and disseminate regional data and conduct data quality audits;
    Building capacity of program staff to conceptualize, collect, use and disseminate MIS data.
    Providing technical assistance in producing quarterly reports of program outputs and accomplishments
    Assisting with management of the Research as required
    Helping refine consortium’s methodologies for ensuring beneficiary accountability.
    Providing technical support to dedicated project staff in the field, through regular telephone/skype meetings, field visits and on-the-job mentoring/coaching.
    Supporting Program Managers and M&E staff with the planning and implementation of baseline surveys, needs assessments, mid-term and end of project reviews/evaluations including preparation of TORs.
    Coordinating with other agencies for learning and sharing of good practices in M&E.
    Helping develop appropriate data management templates and formats for project activities and support project partners on data management systems.
    Help in writing and reviewing the quarterly M&E reports.

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, statistics, mathematics, business administration or computer science, with relevant experience in data analysis in emergency or development sector.
    Knowledge and experience in qualitative and quantitative data management techniques including proficient and skillful use of SPSS, STATA, EXCEL, Epi-info software’s.
    Experience on project monitoring and evaluation with special emphasis on data management including data collection, analysis and storage.
    Experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data;
    Experience working with an international development organization and knowledge of reporting procedures, best practices, guidelines and tools for monitoring and evaluation, especially impact evaluation;
    At least 5 years’ experience in monitoring and evaluating Food security and livelihoods projects.
    Somalia M&E experience will be a plus.

    Under the supervision of the Deputy Representative,  the Chief, Child Protection  is responsible for the management of the GOK/UNICEF Child Protection programme. This includes direct responsibility for delivering the results expected from supporting the Government of Kenya to develop a Child Protection System, including support to: legal and policy reform, monitoring and evaluation, service provision, implementation and reporting of the violence against children (VAC) response plan, addressing social norms including FGM/C.

    How can you make a difference?

    Manage the Child Protection Section delivering on the results for the Child Protection Programme, particularly related to the development of a Child Protection System including in emergencies as referenced in the 2014-2018 Country Programme Document and detailed in the existing Rolling Work plans.  This includes developing and signing off on behalf of UNICEF the Rolling Work plans in the course of the year with counterparts, holding regular section meetings, personnel management for the Child Protection staff, strengthen staff capacity for risk identification, assessment and mitigation including setting up the adequate risks tools for risk assessment, integrating Child Protection activities with the activities of other programmes through interaction with programme group colleagues.  It also includes management of supplies, travel of sections staff, cash assistance to partners, resource mobilization and leveraging, systematic management of programme funds including reporting of gaps funds analysis, as well as donor and annual reporting.
    Oversee management of Programme Officers working closely with the Government of Kenya to develop the various components contributing to a Child Protection System in Kenya both at national and county level within the new devolved governance structure.  This include legal and policy reforms; strengthening monitoring and evaluation, coordination, planning and budgeting; strengthening access and quality of protective and care services including positive social norms, and supporting the VAC initiative.
    Liaise with bilateral agencies, governmental and non governmental organizations and other UN agencies in Kenya in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes aimed at furthering children’s protection from violence, exploitation and abuse.  This includes primarily inputs to the UNDAF and DaO reporting mechanisms and results framework with regard to child protection, collaborating closely with those agencies to strengthen exchange programme information, strategies and experience, cooperating on programmes, projects and activities and improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness through coordinated actions.  Represent UNICEF at child protection meetings, seminars and advocacy events.
    Oversee the implementation of the Global VAC initiative at country level. This includes the implementation of the VAC response plan for Kenya, mobilizing resources and commitments for on-going programme response and strengthening the reporting system on VAC.
    Support the development of a coherent, rights based approach to alternative family-based care within Kenya.  This includes supporting the development of a responsive institutional framework, including appropriate support to the judiciary and Children’s’ Department within the system approach.

    Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Law or related technical field. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the development, implementation, management and evaluation of field programmes, particularly child protection programmes in developing countries, some of which should be in the region concerned.
     Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
    Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of the a local language is an asset.

    Responsibilities include:

    Assist with participatory field-based research and data collection to support an assessment in the Mara basin of key economic systems’ vulnerability to climate change and weather variability
    Assist with participatory field-based research and data collection to support an assessment of the climate-related vulnerability and adaptive capacity of communities and sectors in areas of the Mara basin: the Nyangores catchment in Kenya and the Mara Wetlands in Tanzania
    Use networks and contacts to arrange meetings with local partners, including convening and facilitating participatory workshops in the local language
    Provide translation and ground support to the participatory process
    Provide feedback to the Victoria Basin Commission team.
    Conduct meetings and maintain open communication with Tanzanian and Kenyan government officials, counterparts, and other relevant stakeholders under the direction of the climate vulnerability analyst

    Qualifications:

    Undergraduate degree in a related field, such as environmental or climate science, required; advanced degree in a related field preferred
    Minimum of five years of professional experience with research and data collection for vulnerability assessments at localized scales
    Minimum of five years of professional experience conducting analyses of climate risks
    Experience supporting donor-funded projects in the Lake Victoria Basin preferred
    Knowledge of geographic information systems preferred
    Demonstrated abilities to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing and to work as part of a team
    Resourcefulness, flexibility, and creative problem-solving skills
    Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
    Fluency in Swahili and proficiency English required; fluency in English preferred

    Key responsibilities

    Handling incoming grant applications
    Owns and operates the grant administration system (Salesforce/MIS)
    Assesses the financial dimension of applications, showing analytical and problem-solving skills
    Ensures appropriate internal follow-up and external responses to grant applications
    Discusses new applications internally and requests additional information from applicants
    Monitoring grant process
    Monitors due dates for reports, scheduled payments, pending applications etc.
    Ensures (financial) follow-up of approved applications
    Reporting
    Prepares aggregated reports containing management data
    Fulfills the office reporting requirements as requested by the Global Office
    General and Administrative Support of Programme Managers and Grant Managers
    Organize travel arrangements, prepare information for visits, prepare and coordinate meetings with (potential) partners
    Prepare and provide data analysis for team members
    Handle communication between Porticus and partners

    Qualifications and competencies

    Minimum of 4-5 years professional experience in an administrative or supportive role; experience in making contracts and payments is an advantage
    Bachelor’s degree or federal diploma
    Fluency in English and (a) local language(s)
    Skilled in Office 365 and other MS software, familiar with database management
    Team player with good organisational skills
    Charity/NGO experience is an advantage
    Desire to contribute towards helping others and the greater good

    Additional information:
    The position is based in Nairobi, reports to the Regional Director Africa and requires regular travel within the region.
    The position is fulltime.
