    Akili Dada seeks the services of a qualified consultant or consultancy firm to carry out a 5- year evaluation of our fellowship program that targets young women in the social enterpriseand social change sectors. Akili Dada Fellows are spread across the following East African countries: Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
    About the Fellowship Program
    Akili Dada’s fellowship program grows out of our belief that African women, especially those from underserved communities, are best positioned to design solutions to thechallenges facing them. The overarching goal of the program is to build the capacity of some of the continent’s most innovative young women change makers to drive solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing African society.
    The program awards yearlong fellowships to young women leaders engaged in social change projects of their design. The program serves as an incubator providing financial, intellectual, mentoring, and networking resources to young women as they grow their projects to scale and sustainability.
    The program was created in direct response to the absence of African women among the ranks of those celebrated in existing social entrepreneurship incubators.

    Purpose and Scope of the Evaluation
    The purpose of the evaluation is to assess the extent of achievement of results against the stated objectives and implementation approaches used as well as gain insights on the programs strengths and areas of improvement.
    Specific objectives of the evaluation

    To assess the progress made towards anticipated key project goals as per the project logical framework and any other unintended effects of the project and how the results may have been realized.
    To demonstrate how effective key project interventions approaches have been in achieving the fellowship program outcomes.
    To highlight lessons learned and provide specific, actionable and practical recommendations for future programming

    Scope and Criteria for the Evaluation
    The evaluation will focus on the 3 result areas of the project based on the project log-frame. The evaluation will put emphasis on the effectiveness of the intervention approaches in delivering anticipated results, impact realized and sustainability considerations.
    Evaluation Methodology and Timeframe
    The consultant shall provide guidance on appropriate methodologies to be employed. Akili Dada however proposes, an outcome harvesting approach incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methods. The assignment will take a maximum of 20 days with data collection anticipated to commence no later than August 2018.
    Deliverables of the Consultancy
    The consultant will work in conjunction with the Akili Dada Washa Program Lead with support from the Executive Director, Director of Branding, Communications and Impact, Director of Programs and other Akili Dada staff working on the project, to refine the conceptualization of the assignment, approve research tools, and validate re- search findings. The consultant is expected to undertake the following tasks:

    Review relevant project documents; including project proposal(s), log-frame, budget, reports and other relevant documents with the aim of developing a detailed methodology and tools. The methodology and data tools shall be reviewed and approved by Akili Dada and other stakeholders before data collection commences.
    Data collection, data cleaning, analysis and interpretation of the findings and drafting of the report.
    Develop and submit a 20-page limit first draft of the evaluation report following an agreed upon format.
    Discuss findings with Akili Dada staff and other relevant stakeholders at a validation workshop and incorporate feedback to generate the final report.
    Submit the final 20-page evaluation report to Akili Dada offices in Nairobi in 3 hard copies and a soft copy via email. Any tools/templates used and final consolidated raw data should also be submitted together with the report.

    Evaluation Report Format
    The final reports should not exceed 20 pages excluding annexes of tools, list of research team among others.
    Expected Profile of the Consultant
    The consultant is expected to hold the following qualifications in order to be eligible for this assignment:

    A Masters level degree in international development or related social science
    At least 5 years of consultancy experience conducting evaluations/research in
    Sound knowledge of major development issues, especially. Knowledge of the context in East Africa is an added advantage.
    Sound knowledge and experience in social surveys and project evaluation methodologies with evidence of publications and reports on similar assignments.

    The 2018-2022 Country Programme for UNICEF Kenya is marked by the creation of an outcome supporting the reduction of mortality and stunting. Under this outcome, four programme sections – Health, Nutrition, WASH and HIV-AIDS – will contribute to “Increased proportions of vulnerable children, pregnant and lactating women, including adolescent girls, have equitable access to and use quality WASH, Nutrition, Health and HIV/AIDS services, to reduce their risk of mortality, preventable diseases, stunting and other forms of malnutrition,and improve their birth outcomes”.     How can you make a difference?
    Under the supervision of the Chief of Nutrition section, the incumbent is responsible for overall coordination and management of the Nutrition programmes, including programme/project formulation, design, planning and management focused on achievement of UNICEF’s Organizational priorities.
    Programme Development and Management

    With a focus on nutrition sensitive lens, identify critical intervention points and measures by administering a consistent and transparent monitoring system; analyse country level socio-political-economic trends and their implications for ongoing programmes and projects.
    Draft changes to/or prepare programme work plans as required with a focus on nutrition sensitive lens. Prepare program recommendations for inclusion in formal programme documentation, and new approaches, methods and practices.
    Ensure programme workplans have a relevant nutrition sensitive component, monitors compliance and provides training, support and guidance to the programme team in order to meet objectives. Identifies human resources requirements and on-going staff development needs.
    Adopt rights-based programmes approach in the formulation of programme goals and objectives and development of strategies and implementation frameworks. Formulate consistent and effective planning, design, implementation, monitoring and/or evaluation of programmes and projects. Bring coherence, synergy and added value to the programming planning and design processes using a results-based management approach to programme planning and design.
    Reviews and evaluates the technical, institutional and financial feasibility and constraints of the section nutrition sensitive portfolio in collaboration with Government and other partners. Monitor the overall allocation and disbursement of nutrition sensitive programme funds, making sure that funds are properly coordinated, monitored and liquidated. Take appropriate actions to optimize use of programme funds.
    Prepares relevant nutrition sensitive programme reports required for management, the Executive Board, donors, budget reviews, programme analysis, annual reports, etc.

    Programme Monitoring and Evaluations

    Undertakes field visits to monitor and assess nutrition sensitive programme implementation and decides on required corrective action
    Carry out rigorous and transparent approach to evaluation and participate in nutrition sensitive programme evaluation exercises in consultation with the Nutrition Manager, Deputy Representative, the Operations Officer, the Evaluation Officer and others, to improve efficiency and quality of programme delivery. Participate in annual sector review meetings with government counterparts. Ensure the timely preparation of annual program status reports.

    Knowledge Management and Capacity Building/Sustainability

    Ensure that area/country programmes are supported by knowledge management with a focus on nutrition sensitive lens, through data collection and analysis, complete and accurate reporting as well as participation in the Programme Knowledge Network system of “lessons learned” and other corporate-level databases.
    Participate in information exchange through donor and media visits as well as in the development of training and orientation material.
    Provide government authorities with technical supports and guidance to plan and organize training programmes for the purpose of capacity building and programme sustainability.
    Ensure the building and reinforcing of the commitment and institutional capacities of the national and local partners starting with taking a strategic approach to the identification of these partners and partnerships.

    Partnership, Coordination and Collaboration

    Develop partnership and collaboration with internal and external counterparts, including those of the UN and national partners, in order to improve the ability to collect and disseminate development data and information, exchange information on programme/project status and implementation and movement/distribution of supplies.     Job Description: The mandate of the Product Innovations Team is to develop and test new products and product delivery systems. As a member of the Product Innovations team, you contribute to the research needed to move products from early stage trials to scale.
    Your Role

    Know Your Trials: Develop a thorough knowledge of the requirements for crop station trials including planting, top dressing, and harvesting
    Trial Supervision: Supervise anywhere from 5 – 10 crop station trials each season, including all trial replications

    How can you make a difference?
    Under the guidance of the supervisor, the incumbent is required to manage and coordinate the implementation of the Global Fund grants generally, and HSS specifically.  This entails corresponding with the GFATM Secretariat and the Local Funding Agent (LFA), developing work plans and budgets, supervising programme implementation, ensuring that partners, especially the host agency UNICEF, and activities are well coordinated, and facilitating regular management and coordination meetings. It also involves liaising with local health authorities and the body that holds the CCM responsibilities, the Health Sector Committee and/or a committee charged directly with GF oversight of the Somali Support Secretariat.
    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Lead and coordinate UNICEF’s programming and implementation of the GF grants, including HIV, Malaria and HSS, including management of a team of professionals, dealing with GF and the LFA and collaborating closely with partners (UN especially all levels of UNICEF, NGO, Government, and others) to formulate and develop strategies, methodologies and new approaches for improving programme delivery.

    Performance Objectives:

    Grant Reports

    You’ll work with our fundraising team to ensure that Educate! meets and exceeds our obligations to donors by producing high-quality, timely grant reports that keep our stakeholders informed and connected to Educate!’s progress and mission.
    Write and project manage high-quality grant reports and other donor materials.
    Collaborate closely with in-country teams to gather information needed for reporting and donor materials.
    Support the team in streamlining systems and processes to make grant reporting and information sourcing more efficient, such as developing a tool to systematize and calendarize our story-gathering and info-sourcing needs for grant reports.

    Grant Compliance

    As Educate! grows, we have increasingly complex reporting and compliance obligations to funders to ensure we are achieving our key deliverables and following through on our commitments. In this role, you will:
    Maintain and update our internal Grant Compliance Dashboard that is used to track programmatic, financial and administrative deliverables that have been promised to funders.
    Work closely with the Grants & Compliance Specialist to coordinate and carry out grant compliance processes, including meeting with department heads to check in on compliance items and identify any gaps, and following up on any issues raised during meetings.
    Improve our compliance processes by collaborating with the Grants & Compliance Specialist to build out a strategy for addressing and following up on compliance gaps, and maintaining an annual list of milestones to be shared with funders.

    Donor & Partner Visits

    We’re building the reputation and support base to position Educate! as the leader in skills-based education in Africa, and that includes being able to effectively show our partners what our work looks like on the ground. In this role, you will work with the External Relations Manager to:
    Design, coordinate, and prepare for donor and partner visits in Kenya to ensure that programmed activities run smoothly
    Represent Educate! in person and over email to international donors and partners
    Lead engaging and informative site and field visits for international donors and partners visiting the program

    Team Support

    Educate! is growing, but we still embrace our start-up culture! As part of the Team, you’ll support colleagues in the U.S. and in Africa on fundraising and other external relations projects as needed. Example projects include:
    Supporting the fundraising team in testing new innovations to our grants management systems and processes, such as automating our grant pipeline.
    Supporting the Kenya and other in-country teams with external-facing projects, such as conferences, student business club competitions, or key stakeholder meetings.
    Providing trainings to in-country teams on Educate!’s key messaging, relationship management, donor visits, and more.

    Who we are looking for:
    This is an early-career role, well-suited to those with 2-3 years of work experience.
    The ideal candidate will be:

    A self-starter, able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, take initiative, and work independently, with a manager based in Kampala.

    Past experience working in fundraising or grants management is not necessary for this role. We are looking for candidates who have experience applying the skill-sets identified above in any industry and who are strongly aligned with our five cultural tenets.

    Job Overview/Summary: WISH2ACTION is a comprehensive, integrated approach to ensure equitable access to family planning and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), prioritising the most underserved women and girls, particularly youth under 20, the very poor, and marginalized populations (including people with disabilities, people displaced or affected by humanitarian crisis, and people living in hard-to-reach areas). IRC is an implementing partner in the WISH2ACTION project and will be responsible for delivering contraceptive services as part of a package of sexual and reproductive health, to women and girls in Somalia, South Sudan, and in refugee settings in Ethiopia and Kenya. Based in IRC’s International Hub (I-Hub) office in Nairobi, the Senior Coordinator, Sexual and Reproductive Health will be responsible for ensuring effective coordination of internal and external stakeholders and monitoring of WISH2ACTION project performance. The Senior Coordinator will ensure that IRC’s component of WISH2ACTION is implemented in accordance with DFID regulations, IRC policies and international standards of delivering integrated sexual and reproductive health programs. To achieve these goals, the Senior Coordinator will manage and monitor work plans and deliverables, track spending, identify technical support needs and deploy relevant advisors and specialists to the country programs. The Senior Coordinator will serve as the main focal point for IRC for the project for internal and external representation and manage staff members providing measurement and grants related aspects of project delivery. The position is contingent on the IRC being awarded funding and is anticipated to begin in August 2018.
    Major Responsibilities:
    Project Management and Monitoring

    Work with IRC country program staff to develop and actively track project work plans
    Closely monitor overall program quality and performance in terms of data measurement, spend rate on budgets, staffing at country level, on-time delivery of reports and other products.
    Coordinate deployment of technical and measurement to provide remote and in-country support to country programs in achieving project deliverables country programs to staff

    Reports To: Case Investigations Team Lead
    Job Description: The Case Investigations Associate will mostly be based in the field, carrying out field visits to interview farmers and field staff, and collect statements. The information collected will be used to resolve farmer complaints around inputs, repayment and the quality of One Acre Fund services.
    The agents will be responsible for resolving all cases raised by farmers in the shortest time frame to the highest levels of satisfaction. This is very visible and important position that cuts across many departments at One Acre Fund and supports senior field directors in their execution duties as well as informing and guiding senior departmental heads on programmatic issues.
    Your Role
    Case Management

    Familiarize with all cases of farmer complaints through phone calls to One Acre Fund, through working with the Customer Service Call team
    Meet with the Customer Service Call Team each week to review open cases and ensure the investigation database is up to date
    Prioritize weekly cases to follow up and prepare a travel schedule
    Investigate and acquire relevant documentation including budgets and records for farmer refund payments, UAP insurance payments and inputs delivery documents to detect any anomalies and errors and launch investigations based on the following:
    UAP Insurance: work closely with expense auditor in charge of UAP payments to investigate complaints on this
    wrongly dropped farmers at qualifiers deadline
    refunds for dropped clients and refunds for overpayments
    customer care issues and staff harassment to farmers
    cases on Incentive Fraud, Input fraud and stolen inputs by field staff
    ghost farmer issues
    mobile repayment fraud related issues
    Group Leader level training as follow ups from investigations
    core package issues
    HR related issues
    warehouse staff input balances
    Forward all investigation reports to the relevant parties to ensure resolution and case closure
    Provide recommendations for documentation and process improvement on an ongoing basis
    Any other duty assigned by supervisor

    Field Visit Activities

    Schedule visits to investigate cases with Field Directors, Field Leaders and Group Leaders as appropriate
    Meet with impacted and affected parties and obtain written statements and evidence such as default acknowledgement forms and reports from relevant parties for recovery of cash lost by One Acre Fund staff
    Arrange any follow up appointments to help with the investigation

    Departmental Liaison Activities

    Work closely with the regional teams on any requirements for the cases and advise on appropriate resolution and recommendations
    Liaise closely with HR and District Office Administrators on all pending disciplinary actions from cases investigated
    Work with the Investigation Management to examine processes and policies to prevent future occurrences

    Our Requirements

    Must be able to speak either Kalenjin or Luhya
    Must be willing to travel frequently to the field using motorbike taxis in all weather
    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
