    Summary
     
    The Officer of Institutional Relations will be responsible for: building relationships with potential and existing donors and investors including foundations, private sector partners, multilateral institutions such as USAID, and local governments; leading regional partnerships; and connecting with other external audiences by effectively communicating the importance of Root Capital’s work and impact. In particular, this Officer will be responsible for developing and stewarding relationships associated with our work in sub-Saharan Africa. The Officer of Institutional Relations will be responsible for synthesizing information from different departments within Root Capital and for sharing that information in a compelling way through in-person meetings, presentations, proposals, reports, emails and other communiqués. They will play a key bridge role between Cambridge and our regional East Africa efforts. Additionally, the Officer will support program management on an as-needed basis, working alongside regional Lending and Advisory staff to ensure that partner expectations are met.
     
     
     
    Responsibilities:
     
    Fundraising and Partnership development (70%)
     
    Build relationships with potential and existing donors and investors including foundations, private sector companies, multilaterals such as USAID, and local governments.
    Cultivate funders by providing best-in-class relationship management, identifying areas of overlap between our work and the interests and motivations of prospective donors/investors. Respond to due diligence requests on Root Capital financials, impact metrics, projections, strategy etc.
    Support compliance and stewardship of complex funding programs for regional activities, with a particular focus on government institutions and multilaterals such as USAID.
    Manage day-to-day relationships with Root Capital’s with local and regional partners by coordinating across departments and offices and synthesizing information to communicate progress on Root Capital’s work. 
    Represent Root Capital and make presentations on our work at meetings and conferences with donors, investors, and other external audiences.
    Lead planning and stewardship for donor trips and strategic partnership management and stewardship.
    Participate in regional design of multi-stakeholder partnerships with department leadership.
    Strategy and Business planning (20%)
     
    Conduct research and analysis for internal knowledge sharing related to philanthropic and investor revenue strategy and planning.
    Work with Investor Relations and Kenya-based team on the development of Root’s approach and vision for partnering with public and private sectors.
    Organizational Responsibilities (10%)
     
    Responsible for synthesizing information from different departments within Root Capital and for sharing that information in a compelling way through presentations, proposals, reports, emails and other forms of communications.
    Contribute to Root Capital’s field building and thought leadership through partner engagement and regional events.
     
    Qualifications and Experience:
     
    Bachelor’s Degree required
    Proven ability to create and maintain positive client/partner relationships, with 4-5 years of related experience. Experience in fundraising or client-facing roles preferred.
    Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively deliver complex, technical ideas in a compelling form to a variety of constituents including the philanthropic community, governmental representatives, economic development experts, corporate executives, academics, journalists, and other influential thought leaders.
    Deep interest in and commitment to creating solutions concerning issues relating to rural livelihoods, small business development, social enterprise, and/or environmental stewardship Knowledge of and interest in financial markets, international development, and/or impact investing a plus.

    Job Summary The Project/National Secretariat Director provides technical leadership to all aspects of project planning and implementation in Kenya and Somalia and provides support to CGPP secretariats in South Sudan and Ethiopia for timely coordination with WHO and UNICEF Horn of Africa (HOA) coordination office.
    Maintains and develops the project’s relationships with key partners and stakeholders including the Ministries of Health for Kenya and Somalia, USAID, UNICEF, WHO, and Rotary International.
    In fulfilling these roles, s/he also ensures:
    CGPP activities address stated project objectives and contribute to achieving national and international polio eradication objectives;
    The needs and concerns of participating non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and of the communities they serve are communicated to decision-makers at all levels.
    Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities for Project/National Secretariat Director Job
    Partnership and Coordination
    Manage all communication with national and international stakeholders and partners working in Kenya and Somalia.
    Maintain close formal and informal networking and communications, ensuring NGO and community needs are communicated, and that technical advances, policy changes, and other relevant information are communicated back to all CGPP partners.
    Represent the interests of the CGPP and its partners in meeting with these stakeholders and report on those meetings to CGPP headquarters staff.
    Meet at least quarterly with partners and stakeholders to review the CGPP progress, troubleshoot and share successes and lessons learned. Communicate proceedings to CGPP-US.

    Briefing notes shall include: Documentation of the key points discussed; strategies, policies, events and decisions, and technical recommendations relevant to polio eradication; and Description of their implications for the CGPP
    Technical support and monitoring
    Provide technical support to CGPP Team and partners in developing work plans, training materials, IEC materials.
    Provide Technical support in conducting quality trainings.
    Review and approve all training work-plans and training curricula developed by secretariat technical staff.
    Guide the development of technical priorities and strategic plan for the project, ensuring that they contribute to: high quality, robust acute flaccid paralysis surveillance; the quality and coverage of supplemental immunization activities; and utilization of routine immunization services
    Monitor all activities to ensure they support the stated project goals and objectives of the CGPP.
    Monitor field operations performed by Secretariat and PVO partner staff to ensure quality implementation.
    Make necessary program adjustments.
    Monitor the implementation of project monitoring and evaluation activities, including baseline activities and mid-term review, and guide the interpretation of analyzed data.
    Review the partners’ quarterly progress reports and provide feedback to partners and to US-based project management team.
    Provide field site coordination of data collection for baseline and end of project evaluation surveys. Oversee partners in setting targets based on baseline survey.
    Provide input to external evaluator on recommendations based on end of project evaluation.
    Adapt, review, and ensure the PVO partners’ utilization of supervisory guides and checklists.
    Monitor progress toward CGPP polio eradication goals and strategies and, in coordination with the CGPP Senior
    Regional Advisor and the CGPP HQ Deputy Director, make necessary adjustments to ensure project activities contribute to the national and global eradication of polio and to the quality and sustainability of AFP surveillance and routine immunization services.
    Monitor CGPP training (on AFP surveillance, routine immunization, social mobilization, communication, data collection and reporting tools and techniques) and make any necessary program adjustments to ensure field staff at all levels receives appropriate training.
    Ensure that secretariat and PVO partner staff are supported by appropriate capacity building opportunities based on observations made from monitoring activities.
    Grant management
    Develop the annual Secretariat budget (both grant and cost share) and work-plan. Monitor the implementation of the work-plan to ensure activities are on course and track the Secretariat expenditure pattern by reviewing monthly and quarterly financial reports. Make recommendations for corrective action if required.
    Guide the development of and approve the PVO partners’ budgets and work-plans before they are submitted to headquarters staff. Monitor partners’ adherence to the approved budgets and work-plans, with support of CGPP Team and make any necessary program adjustments to ensure work-plans are completed within budget.
    Work in cooperation with CRS’ Admin and Finance team to ensure all procurement and finance policies are followed by Secretariat team.
    Reporting and documentation
    Ensure the timely completion of Secretariat quarterly and annual reports, monthly updates, and other reports as required.
    Review partners’ quarterly and annual reports before they are submitted to headquarters staff. When required, assist partners in developing high quality reports by making suggestions for improvement.

    Objective of the Baseline Assessment
     
    The overall objective of the Baseline survey is to assess the situation and establish benchmark indicators that will the base for Monitoring and Evaluation plan and form platform for the impact evaluation of project which is to solve lack of opportunities for young women and those also in the hidden sector to access gainful employment either formal or informal
     
    Scope and focus of the assignment
     
    The consultant with support of the M & E Officer and project team will lead the baseline assessment process for the “Wasichana Twaweza” program in four sub-counties in Kenya namely, Homa-bay town, Kisumu East, Kisumu Central and Bondo. It is intended that the baseline assessment will provide: a) baseline data for the program as benchmarks for performance evaluation; b) information that will assist in updating the result framework c) information for the development of training modules and capacity building interventions and d) information that will assist in identifying relevant business enterprise and employment opportunities for linkages of young women during project implementation.
     
    Scope of Work
     
    The consultant will be required to answer the following question in consultation with monitoring and evaluation officer.
     
    What are the current situation about employability of young women age (19-24) years in the three counties?
    What are the existing programs in the counties of Kisumu, Siaya and Homabay that addresses the issues of young women employability and their feasibility?
    What opportunities exist for expanding young women employability in the said counties?
    What type of enterprises would be viable for young women who would wish develop their own business?
    What is the vulnerability of this cohort of young women to HIV infection?
    What the structural challenges that predisposes them to HIV infection?
    How accessible are the loans facilities to the young women in the three counties?

    It is highly anticipated that the consultant will take up both quantitative and qualitative methods for the Baseline assessment. The consultant will be appreciated for using Participatory Tools and Techniques for data collection, which may include but not be limited to In-depth interview, Key informant interview, Focus Group Discussion with HOVIC staff, partners, government line ministries, community groups, among other stakeholders.
     
    Expertise and Experience for the Baseline Assessment Job
     
    The suitable person must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the fields of Social Sciences, Statistics, Demography, Research Methodologies, Development Studies, Education and any other related fields.

    Program Officer III

    The position will be expected to work at very high research standards, with energy and commitment to the growth and success of the overall program.
    The successful candidate will report to the Program Associate.
    This position is a local hire position.
    Candidates must be Kenyan nationals.  
    Key Responsibilities:
    Work with the PGY team to design studies and data collection instruments related to PGY work in Kenya and the region, especially focused on studies related to vulnerable adolescent girls.
    Oversee data collection and entry related to programmatic studies.
    Work closely with intervention staff and partners to ensure that intervention components of the study are being implemented at a high quality and with fidelity to the research design
    Work with senior program staff to clean, manage and analyze data
    Author in-country reports and policy research briefs related to studies.
    Work with senior staff in papers for peer reviewed journals and dissemination events.
    Author, assist with, or edit routine donor reporting related to PGY program activities in Kenya and the region
    Work with senior staff in both sub-Saharan Africa and New York to develop programmatic activities and proposals for funding, with a view to expanding the PGY program.
    Represent the Council in various stakeholder policy or technical working groups and/or networks.
    Other duties as may be required by the position.
    Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience
    Doctorate or MD degree with minimum of two years relevant experience or Masters degree with equivalent experience in a relevant field and a minimum of eight years research experience.
    Experience with management of research studies, data collection and publication of papers in peer-review journals.
    High-level quantitative data analysis skills – such as multivariate analysis, event history analysis and analysis of longitudinal data using STATA.
    Qualitative data analysis skills – such as coding and analysis of transcripts using Atlas.ti, NVIVO, or similar software.
    Candidate must have at least two years of expertise in adolescence, gender, women’s and girls’ empowerment, social development, public health, and/or education, including specific knowledge and experience working in the Kenyan context.
    Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise a team working on both intervention and research activities.
    Excellent diplomatic, representational, problem solving, management, and interpersonal skills.
    Excellent written and oral English-language communications skills, including top quality writing and presentation skills.
    Skills with multiple kinds of software for both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
    Willingness to travel within Kenya and across the region as needed.

  • WASH Project Officer

    WASH Project Officer

    Position: WASH Project Officer Reporting to: Project Manager / Project Director
    Duration: 11 months Location: Marsabit County
     
    Key tasks & responsibilities
    Responsible for achievement of all results under WASH outcome;
    Lead community mobilisation and liaison for WASH results;
    Implement water infrastructure rehabilitation;
    Ensure implementation of WASH software;
    Monitoring and reporting of all WASH results;
    Liaison with project consortium partners.
    Essential requirements & qualifications
    University degree in Civil / Water Engineering with at least five years of work experience alternatively a diploma can suffice with a minimum of seven years’ work experience;
    At least part of the work experience in an engineering company or with a NGO including fieldwork preferably in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands;
    Expertise in the execution of water infrastructure projects including needs assessments, technical surveys, material storage control, artisan supervision;
    Experience in prevalent WASH software implementation such as KAP surveys and O&M trainings for community groups and schools (BoM), CHAST, CLTS is an added advantage;
    Flexibility, good interpersonal and clear oral and written communication skills;
    The knowledge of Kiswahili is mandatory, local language skills (Marsabit) are highly desirable.
