    As a Senior Program Specialist, reporting to the Program Leader, Foundations for Innovation (FI), you will work closely with FI colleagues based at IDRC’s Regional Office for sub-Saharan Africa (Nairobi, Kenya) on the SGCI.     We are particularly interested in candidates with proven research and/or programming experience in low- and middle-income countries notably in sub-Saharan Africa, in science, technology and innovation (STI) systems, and the organizations and institutions that underpin such systems as well as STI funding.     CRS is implementing a 15 month Maternal and Child Nutrition Programme (MCNP II) funded by UNICEF. MCNP II seeks to enhance women, caregivers, and community health workers knowledge and skills for enhanced nutrition practices and health seeking behaviors at community level, including during times of shock through; 1) improved nutrition and health seeking behaviors; 2) increased awareness and demand for nutrition services; and 3) increased integration of community level nutrition services to enhance integration and coverage.
    Job Summary:
    As a key member of the MCNP II team, you will monitor and report on all project activities related to improved demand for and utilization of nutrition services in Isiolo County. Your thorough and service-oriented approach will ensure that the project consistently applies best practices and constantly works towards improving the impact of its benefits to those we serve. You will coordinate closely with MEAL Officer and other Health unit colleagues to ensure a holistic, integrated, and comprehensive project implementation.
    Job Responsibilities:

    Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:
    Education and Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Nursing, Public Health or a related field.
    4 years of work experience in project support in the field of Nutrition, food Security and other health-related projects in Kenya and for an NGO.
    Must be registered with Kenya Nutritionists and Dietetics Institute
    In-depth understanding of donor expectations for program results, outcomes, impact, and reporting.
    Experience in participatory action planning and engagement of stakeholders at various levels.
    Experience monitoring projects and collecting relevant data preferred.

    The Global Grant Community (GGC) Portal consists of an online assessment system in which current or proposed recipients of grant funding, can assess their organizational capabilities against the requirements of a new international standard for Good Financial Grant Practice.
    The GGC portal is scheduled to go live shortly. The first iteration of the live portal will require manual registration of grantors and grantees. This will be resource intensive and there will be a need to for additional resource within the AAS to: –

    Provide cover for the helpline/support desk,
    Assist The AAS finance team in the invoicing of clients and receipting of subscriptions.

    This is an opportunity for undergraduate or post graduate individuals to gain valuable experience in assisting in the launch of a new approach which will likely change the landscape of grant funding across the world.
    Key responsibilities  
    Registration 

    Act as the “customer interface” of the GGC portal and assist and support the registration of both grantors and grantees on the portal. This will be performed through email iteration with grantors and grantees to ensure full organizational details have been captured and entered into the internal AAS database
    Bring any technical registration issues to the prompt attention of the senior team
    Prepare weekly reports on the status of registration activities.

    Helpline / Support Desk

    The Global Grant Community is expected to rapidly secure uptake from grantors and grantees across the world
    As the GGC portal is the first of its kind – it is expected there will be a variety of technical issues that will need to be resolved and support provided to the grantor and grantee community
    To record and achieve the Service Level Response / Resolution times of the Help Line / Support Desk
    As far as is practicable – this support will need to be provided on a 24/7 basis. This may require some shift work outside normal hours. 

    Support for AAS Finance Team

    Every grantor seeking to use the system for the assessment of their grantees will be required to pay an annual subscription
    Invoices will need to be prepared, reviewed by Finance, issued to the grantor and receipt of subscriptions monitored before the grantors account in the portal can be activated.

CARI is a programme of AAS to be administered under the Director, Strategy and Partnerships.
    Principal duties and responsibilities;

    Develop and implement a business case for CARI that will notably clarify the vision, road map, important case profiles, and economic return of investment of right sized investment in African research and the nature of the investment.
    Explore the funding mechanisms required to bring the business case to reality, including but not limited to in-kind contributions, blended financing, impact financing, governments and philanthropic donors’ contributions.
    Develop and implement the resource mobilization strategy for the financial contributions to be gathered.
    Clarify the governance structure and the legal framework for the new mechanism.
    Coordinate and provide support to the CARI Leadership Group currently made up of high ranking leaders in government, global funders, private sector and academia.
    Coordinate and monitor the task teams with distributed leadership established to drive forward CARI activities.

    Responsibilities in specific areas

    Develop a road map, business plan and implementation plan for resource mobilisation and systematic collaboration activities.
    Analyse, implement and monitor new growth potentials by introducing new fundraising channels, up scaling existing activities and introducing innovative activities for fundraising based on identified and new funding pipelines.
    Proactively network and collaborate with a range of stakeholders with a key focus on Governments, Foundations and Trusts, private/industry partners including big pharmaceutical companies to synergize broader development efforts, build relevant partnerships and enhance opportunities for African scientists to access resources, leading roles, mentorship and support.
    Develop a robust communications strategy for CARI in partnership with the AAS communications office and the funding partners.

    Attend meetings with partners as required to present, negotiate, and review on CARI activities and development plans

    Requirements
    Professional and Experience;

    Must hold senior management or leadership position in organizations or business environments with responsibilities for overseeing global business development, resource mobilisation and fund-raising strategies
    Must have knowledge of and experience with developing systematic collaborative partnerships and funding relationships between governments, international funders, philanthropy and major grant recipients.
    Must have worked inside, or advised one of the above (i.e. governments, international funders, philanthropy, global industry or major grants recipients)
    Must have credible hands-on management experience. Advisory experience is useful but insufficient on its own because there is a complex management challenge.
    Will have substantial experience of working on the African continent, not necessarily currently residing in Africa, but must be prepared to relocate to work from the AAS offices in Nairobi.

    The Global Alliances and Outreach Program of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking applicants for the position of Senior Advisor, Alliances and Outreach, Kenya.
    The program is a new initiative that will work on various sectors of civil society to re-imagine, reshape and reinvigorate democratic and human rights values globally. It aims to influence how human rights actors work by emphasizing organizing, alliance building and personal connections with the larger constituency that human rights organizations serve.
    The Senior Advisor will work closely with the Program Director to establishing a baseline with respect to current civil society alliance-building efforts, documenting and analyzing the successes and lessons coming from local social movements and civil society, assess cross-sharing of activist’s experiences, and working to identify new and cutting edge areas for research.
    The Senior Advisor will also lead the program’s civil society alliance building work in Kenya. This is a fixed-term, part-time position for 1 year, working initially at 20 hours per week (50% schedule). The schedule of this position may increase to 100%, pending available funding. This position reports to the Program Director.
    Responsibilities:

    Advise the Program Director on the following:

    Contemporary challenges for civic space, democracies and human rights work and strategies to confront these challenges;
    Creative new approaches to work with social movements, civil society at large and alliances of progressive actors;
    Dynamics of local social movements, civil society and political dynamics in the pilot countries;
    Baseline parameters for the pilot experiences; lessons learned from the pilot experiences; local experiences in a global context and creative options to test experiences locally;
    Research strategies that, in consultation with local (in pilot countries) and global civil society and human rights organizations, complement their work and efforts;

    Identify cutting-edge research areas such as understanding successful tactics of anti-democratic movements; the role of private actors and international community on human rights work and the decline of democracy; and analyzing the impact of local and global alliances;

    Job Description

    The programme is funded through the DAI Deepening Democracy Programme and will focus on the following: 
     
    improving the ability of parliamentary oversight committees to carry out effective oversight and scrutiny of public finances, aimed at supporting accountable service delivery by both national and county governments. addressing organizational capacity gaps facing parliamentary oversight committees, which hinder their ability to carry out practical oversight of public finances managed by the government Main Purpose of the Role The role will be responsible for leading, driving and coordinating the day to day delivery of programme activities and managing administrative and logistical requirement in planning, budgeting, implementation and, reporting of the programme. 
     

    The coordinator will be preparing and disseminating project documentation, lead in the preparation of the narrative and financial reports,
    monitoring and evaluation of programme activities, distilling leering and best practices and communicating programme successes and successful case studies through WFDs reporting and information sharing mechanisms.
    One of the Programme Coordinator’s key tasks will be to realise the successful implementation of the activities of the programme. The Programme Coordinator will work closely with responsible officials of the beneficiaries of the project, including: The Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee; The National Assembly Public Accounts Committee and the Office of the Auditor General.

     The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience 

     First degree or similar, in a relevant discipline such as social sciences. A master’s degree in development or a related field is an added advantage. 
    A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the field or in a related area, broad familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in Democracy Assistance 
    Proven experience in developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for development programmes. Experience with MEL in the democracy support sector would be an asset 
    Possess a certain degree of creativity, innovation and latitude including a good understanding and knowledge of the Kenyan democratic and political environment and its interplay with devolution 
    Critical thinking, problem solving, organization, attention to detail, leadership, clear spoken and written communication, active listening, and can perform a variety of tasks 

    Good command of written and spoken English essential
    This is a locally based field role and therefore the successful candidate must have eligibility to work in the relevant location.
