    The Director of Engagement and Strategy serves as a key strategic advisor and counsel to the Africa Regional Managing Director (RMD). They work in close partnership and in coordination with the Africa Leadership Team (ALT) to drive the execution of progress on key regional priorities, leads and manages projects with skill, and manages the Office of the Africa RMD and staff, ensuring effective and efficient operations, communication, and RMD engagement strategy. The jobholder will report to the RMD, and preferably based in Nairobi, Kenya

    Specific Functions Include

    Strategic support – Provides insight, analysis, and recommendations to assist the RMD in decision making. Plan and participate in important meetings and retreats; work closely with the RMD to develop and execute strategic initiatives, ensuring they align with TNC’s 2030 Goals and mission.
    Operations management – Support RMD in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Africa Program, ensuring smooth functioning and efficient execution of plans. Coordinate activities across different departments and streamline processes to avoid duplication of effort and inefficiencies. Keep a pulse on the Africa Program, ensuring a good flow of communication between functions and assisting, as necessary, to connect the dots with others across the organization.
    Relationship building – Develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders, and colleagues at all levels. Foster effective relationships to support RMD’s objectives and to promote regional interests. Actively support a culture of accountability for execution and results.
    Communication & Liaison – disseminate ALT’s top priorities, ensuring outcomes and action steps are clearly communicated and tracked appropriately, ensuring that strategies and projects stay on track. Document and communicate decisions and action items from meetings and ensure follow-up and closure of action items. Act as the primary point of contact and liaison between RMD and the various stakeholders, internally and externally. Represent RMD in internal meetings in his absence.
    Information management – Maintain a management reporting tool (dashboard) to track ALT member KPIs progress. Prepare and/or contribute to the preparation of reports, briefings, presentations, etc. for meetings and other priority issues involving the RMD. Ensure the RMD is properly briefed on strategic calendar events. Identify issues that impact the successful execution of plans, including elevating issues of which the RMD, and/or the Africa leadership should be aware, and framing ideas to solve the problem/mitigate the risk.
    Project management – Manage projects on behalf of the RMD. Develop project plans, timelines, allocate resources and monitor progress to ensure successful completion.
    Team Management – Manage a small team of professional staff, including responsibility for training, professional development, establishing clear directions, setting “stretch” objectives, and overseeing the execution of day-to-day work. Help to facilitate teamwork and communication at all levels within TNC.

    World Vision (WV) recognises gender inequality and social exclusion are key drivers of child vulnerability across all contexts.     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    Master’s degree or equivalent in development studies, social development, human rights, social work, political or social sciences, gender and development or other relevant discipline
    At least 5 years working in the sector in gender equality, disability or social inclusion-related roles.
    Proven knowledge and understanding of the gender equality/disability and social inclusion competency needs within international NGOs and track record of building staff GESI competence. 
    A proven track record of work within a complex international organization and preferably including implementation experience in long term development or fragile contexts.
    Experience working in GESI-related roles in diverse contexts and proven ability to address root causes of inequality and exclusion with religious, cultural, political, and social sensitivity.
    Competence in planning and project management

    Job Overview:

    The Department Manager’s primary responsibility is to provide high-quality, core administrative support to the Chief GEDI Officer in continuing to build an effective and performance-focused team.     Major Responsibilities

    Administrative and Logistical Management

    Manage the daily workflow of the Chief GEDI Officer, including scheduling, coordinating travel and managing appointments.
    Evaluate and prioritize requests against the GEDI Unit strategic priorities and proactively identify opportunities to increase the team efficiency and effectively.
    Serve as a liaison between the GEDI unit and key partners and oversee follow ups through to completion.

    Develop and maintain the collective GEDI unit filing system to support effective knowledge management.

    Budget and Contract Management

    Work closely with the Senior Officer to review departmental monthly budgets and develop annual budget submission.
    Coordinate and administer the operating budget for GEDI Unit including forecasting and tracking expenses.
    Analyze the monthly budget vs. actual reports for the department in a timely manner and work with the finance department to resolve problems.
    Synthesize all GEDI Unit budget management issues and communicate for follow-up.
    Review and submit travel expense reports, purchase orders, contract payments and other finance transactions for approval via Integra, IRC’s procurement and expense management software; and ensure accurate coding.

    Human Resources Management

    Maintain and archive the GEDI Unit’s HR records.
    Support the preparation and submission of all HR paperwork for new staff, or staff who are leaving or transitioning to another role.
    Support the onboarding of new staff by ensuring necessary materials are available, training new staff on IRC systems and processes and scheduling the orientation meetings as needed.
    Maintain a consistent inventory of team assets, org chart and staff roster, etc.
    Supervision of internship and or admin positions to provide administrative and communications support.

    Responsibilities:

    Program Support and Grant Management

    Review donor contracts and outline key guidelines and policies and ensuring MMC complies with them.
    Act as the primary linkage between MMC and the Grants team to ensure compliance with DRC and donor rules during project implementation and reporting.
    Ensure all projects are up to date on dynamics and that MMC is in good standing in dynamics.
    Review the RAP (Rolling Action Plan) to ensure the correct reporting timelines are captured and reports are submitted as per the target dates.
    Identify and follow up on MMC instalments and ensure they are recorded and uploaded on Dynamics.

    Financial, Reporting Support and Budgeting

    Lead in the preparation of donor financial reports, project budgets, support the Regional Head of MMC to develop proposals and budgets, and support to final project audits.
    Review supporting documentation for accuracy and adherence to DRC, donor policies and accounting principles before submitting to the donor.
    Print, file and certify financial vouchers to accompany financial reports to donors.
    Prepare and update MMC’s Master Budget in coordination with the Regional Finance Controller.
    Identify funding gaps and inform the Regional Head of MMC and 4Mi Manager.
    Set up and participate in Budget Follow Up meetings between MMC, Grants and the Finance department.
    Review project expenses monthly/quarterly to identify any re-bookings or re-postings as per the different budgets and budget lines. And ensured that they are posted on Dynamics.
    Support the team with processing payments of vendors and consultants.

    Supply Chain and Procurement

    Lead the procurement process within the team including raising purchase requisition requests, follow up with the Supply Chain teams on delivery of goods and services, quality control of delivered goods and services, liaison with suppliers on any matter arising, and invoicing and payment.
    Support the Supply Chain team in ensuring that MMC donors’ guidelines are adhered to.

    About the Role:

    The successful candidate will join the DataLab team as part of CfA’s wider Knowledge team. The Knowledge initiative spearheads training management and partnerships, data analysis, digital journalism, and storytelling initiatives for CfA’s partners  in newsrooms, universities, CSOs and selected government agencies, as well as building and engaging local communities or networks across Africa. The Knowledge team is also the custodian of other major CfA public infrastructure, including the largest open data portal on the continent, open.AFRICA, and Africa’s biggest census data portal, HURUMap. 
    You will drive CfA’s transnational DataLab team, which manages a wide portfolio of data-driven products in 20+ countries, while also supporting a network of external partners in the media and watchdog civil society sectors. The scope of your work will encompass various stages of the data workflow, including research to mining, cleaning, visualisation, storytelling and the application of  machine learning techniques, such as deep learning and generative AI. Also, you will play a crucial role in leveraging data-driven insights to tackle complex societal challenges and drive positive social impact.  
    You will also play a pivotal role in shaping the vision and maximising the broad-reaching impact of multiple CfA’s products. Notably, this includes overseeing openAFRICA, Africa’s largest open data repository. Additionally, you will contribute to the management of other prominent initiatives, such as HURUmap, CfA’s geolocation open source tool, Outbreak.AFRICA, the health emergency infodemic tool, the budget portal PesaYetu and a series of interactive calculators, such as GenderGap and TaxClock.

    Responsibilities: Your daily responsibilities will include:

    Coordinate and supervise the daily, weekly and monthly activities of the DataLab and its project and product champions.
    Drive the vision and growth of flagship products including openAFRICA, HURUmap, PesaYetu, Dominion, GenderGap.AFRICA and others. 
    Develop and apply statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and data mining techniques to identify patterns, trends, and correlations in data that contribute to program effectiveness and social impact and to extract insights from large and diverse datasets.
    Oversee a growing team of data scientists/analysts who will work on clearly defined projects, including providing guidance, mentorship and support for the team’s professional development
    Steer technical scoping and specification of DataLab  projects and products, including developing project charter, work plans and budgets for data resources and technological tools, all anchored by the original project conceptualisation or framing that is further fleshed-out during review/ideation sessions, with clear mechanisms for support or guidance and a clear communication structure
    Oversee project deliverables to ensure adherence to agreed quality benchmarks, by facilitating regular progress/prototype reviews at appropriate milestones for stakeholders, and by proactively problem-solving where expectations are not met.
    Cooperate with CfA’s teams to collect impact data and maintain CfA’s impact trackers.
    Facilitate the creation and maintenance of partnerships to amplify the impact of the Knowledge programme and its partner initiatives.
    Supervise the communication of the Knowledge team’s successes and impact stories, on CfA’s social media, Slack channels and public newsletters.

    Required: minimum requirements include:

    5+ years experience in programme management in an international NGO, tech-for-good startup environment, or organisation focused on civic tech, civic engagement, open government and/or open data
    Proven track record of data science projects tackling real-world problems, preferably in a civic technology, government, or nonprofit setting.
    Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., AirTable, Flourish, Tableau, Datawrapper, or equivalent dataviz or dashboard systems) to effectively communicate insights and findings.
