    Internship Programme
    The Media Council of Kenya in partnership with media outlets, government departments and agencies, is implementing communication and media internship programme geared towards developing skills and preparing youth for the job market. The Internship Programme will also provide participants with an opportunity to gain workplace experience, expand knowledge and practical skills, refine career goals, and build professional networks.
    Duration of the Internship

    The internship will last for Six (6) Months (January-June 2024). The Council will provide a monthly stipend for the interns’ upkeep.

    Requirements

    An internship application letter.
    A communication or journalism degree from a recognised university or a diploma from a college.
    Kenyan between 20 and 29 years of age.
    Academic transcripts.
    Valid 2023 MCK Press Card.
    Must have graduated within the last 2 years from the closing date of the advertisement.

    Objective of Internship
    Save the Children is committed to providing opportunities to young people to be exposed to the workplace. By endorsing an active internship policy, Save the Children is able to provide a unique opportunity for young professionals to build their capacity on programming for children. We provide them with short-term placement to sharpen their knowledge and skills in their respective professions through the internship program.
    The job holder will provide coordination support to the Programme Development and Quality (PDQ) team under the guidance of the Director of Programme Development and Quality.  The PDQ intern will support the day-to-day work of the PDQ team including; work planning, information management, coordination of processes and research. The intern’s tasks will vary depending on the needs and ongoing work of the PDQ team.
    Internship Period: 3 Months with possibility of extension for another 3 months’ subject to performance.

    The intern will demonstrate motivated participation in the learning experience.
    The intern will participate in the orientation programs of the organization and abide by all terms and conditions as set out in the internship agreement.
    At the end of the assignment, the intern will provide a comprehensive report demonstrating learning and achievements during the internship as guided by the supervisor.

    Professional Requirements

    Graduates from reputable national, regional or international universities studying disciplines relevant to the work of the Save the Children International.

    Responsibilities

    The intern(s) will support the Biodiversity, Landscapes and People Unit for outreach and awareness raising for the Global Peatlands Initiative under the direct supervision of the responsible programme officer, the intern(s) will:
    Draft content for and update the GPI and UNEP-peatlands(tab) website(s), online dgroups GPI community of practice and social media outreach channels;
    Draft news articles or blogs on subjects relevant to peatlands restoration, conservation and sustainable management, such as ecosystem services, trans-boundary collaboration,conservation and carbon finance, biodiversity and climate change;
    Assist in the preparation of GPI events, workshops or south south exchanges;
    Assist in the development of awareness raising, outreach or advocacy materials including speech-writing, presentations, and/or videos;
    Assist with research on peatlands best practices in conservation, sustainable management and restoration or relevant topics to inform policy making;
    Assist with preparations for the GPI Steering Committee meetings, and various virtual or face to face meetings of the partnership and attend if held in Nairobi;

    Provide regular communication liaison within the GPI Partnership and with members of the public as required;

    Knowledge of peatlands or wetland ecosystem functioning is desirable.
    Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Responsibilities
    Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.

    Under the direct supervision of the Associate Human Rights and Social Inclusion Officer, the intern will:
     Support the development of internal human rights, gender and social inclusion capacitybuilding materials, which may require supporting and organizing meetings and webinars, carrying out background research, drafting surveys and communication materials, and other, similar such tasks as required.
     Support the development of human rights materials such as reports, publications, concept notes etc, including by carrying out background research, attending and supporting relevant meetings and events, as well as any other relevant tasks.
     Support the development of gender mainstreaming materials such as reports, publications, concept notes etc, including by carrying out background research, attending relevant meetings and events, summarizing reports and documents, etc.
     Support internal reporting, for example by gathering feedback from other teams.
     Support relevant internal and external meetings / events with a focus on human rights and gender mainstreaming. This may include providing logistical support, meeting coordination, taking minutes of meetings during meetings, preparing support materials, drafting talking points, liaison with internal / external stakeholders, preparing summary reports, etc.
