    AC/12/354/19 (2 POSTS) (CHS) The project One Health Regional Network for the Horn of Africa (HORN) is a collaborative research and training programme between the University of Nairobi and University of Liverpool, implemented by the Department of Public Health Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the School of Public Health, University of Nairobi. The project addressed One Health, the concept that the health of people, animals and the environment are inextricably linked. The position The project is recruiting two post-doctoral research associates in interests in understanding and improving human and animal health in Africa by making advances in the fields if inter-linkages of human, animal and ecosystems health.     Vacancy No. CGHR/112/11/19 Position Description: The Kenya Medical Research Institute/Centre for Global Health Research (KEMRI/CGHR), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) are collaborating to conduct research on malaria, HIV, TB and other diseases of public health importance. An exciting opportunity is currently open for an Assistant Research Officer (ARO) within the Program. The candidate will work on a project “Research to Policy in Africa: Evidence synthesis for building the translation pipeline to eliminate infectious diseases”. The project aims to build local capacity for evidence synthesis, translating research evidence into policy and for making evidence-informed decisions for controlling or eliminating infectious diseases. Using HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria as examples, we will use evidence synthesis from different research and knowledge sources to inform technical policy, programmatic guidance and to inform optimum implementation and revisions to existing policies.
    REPORTING: Principal investigator Essential Requirements

    A BSc in Microbiology, Biology, Community Health, Public Health or any other relevant/related field from a recognized training institution

    Basic Function The Research Scientist will report to the Principal Investigator and will be responsible for ensuring that the data collection and filing of all study documents is conducted to the highest standards possible as per the study guidelines. S/he will be trained to conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses under guidance. S/he must be flexible and work within the existing structure, professionally and ethically with competence, accountability and integrity.
    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    Writing and reviewing of study and systematic review protocols 
    Searching for literature in electronic databases and other sources
    Selecting eligible primary studies for the systematic reviews
    Extraction of information from selected primary studies using recommended tools
    Resolving discrepancies identified during data extraction
    Conduct preliminary meta-analyses under the guidance of the supervisory team
    Contribute to preparing and reviewing manuscripts for peer-review submission
    Author at least one peer-reviewed publication under the guidance of the supervisory team 
    Maintain, audit and archive documents as required by study guidelines.

    Terms of Employment: 1-year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a probation period for the first three months. This is a four-year project.     JOB PURPOSE
    Under the direct supervision of the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer and in close consultation with the Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) Officer head of the M&E Unit, the Data Analyst is responsible for Kenya’s Country Strategic Plan (CSP) M&E Database systems, analysis and information management.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

    Design, develop and test databases for WFP Kenya Country Strategic Plan (CSP) M&E system. Continiously upgrade and maintain all program databases, in line with changing reporting requirements. 
    Continually advise and improve M&E tools and databases in line with new innovations and technology advancements so as to ensure the tools exhibit improved and efficient data collection and analysis capabilities and are more user friendly. 
    Develop and continually update technical user manuals and documentation for database systems.
    Migrate all databases to an online platform and create a central dashboard where food security and monitoring tools, analysis, graphs, maps, reports and guidelines can be accessed, retrieved and visualized by relevant program staff. Manage and update, repare and maintenance of online platforms.
    In close liaison with the IT Unit, ensure that all databases, online platforms, servers and tools comply with WFP corporate IT standards.
    Create visualization for all key monitoring results with ease of access for managers and programme teams.
    Implement features that ensure data safety, cleaning, validation and integrity. Develop data models, database structures, graphic user interfaces, standard queries and reports.
    Applying appropriate statistical principles, identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex datasets to support VAM and M&E in analysis and reporting. In consultation with the M&E officer, perform data analysis and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
    Provide support to studies, evaluations and monitoring activities through training, database design, data collection, data analysis and report writing. 
    In consultation with the M&E Officer, co-ordinate and provide technical support on data collection, collation, processing, analysis and database systems development and management to the country and sub offices and field M&E focal points.
    Maintain updated COMET (Country Office Tool for Managing (programme operations) Effectively) Design with annual results for all Country Strategic Plan (CSP) outcome indicators.
    Participate in food security assessments, studies and monitoring activities.
    In liaison with the VAM Officer and GoK, provide support where required in structuring and upgrading of monitoring and early warning databases.
