    KIPPRA Young Professionals Programme

    Job Summary
    In line with The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA)’s mandate of developing human and institutional capacities required for the formulation of medium and long-term strategic perspectives for national development, KIPPRA runs a flagship program for Young Professionals (YP). The training program covers: applied policy research, on the job training and course work in the areas of Public Policy Process, Research Methods and policy analysis (Research ethics, Concepts, Data and techniques), Governance structures in a Devolved system of Government, Macroeconomic Modeling, Systems of National Accounts and Introduction to Social Accounting Matrix (SAM). By the end of the training the participants are expected to publish a number of research outputs.
    Qualifications for admission to the Programme
    For admission to the programme, the following are the minimum qualifications:

    Master’s Degree;
    Be below 35 years of age;
    Be in possession of strong analytical competencies, problem solving capabilities and be results oriented;
    Be computer literate including knowledge in statistical packages (STATA, SPSS, E-VIEWS);

    Personal Attributes:
    v. Should possess interpersonal and communication skills;
    vi. Be fluent in English;
    vii. Be legally living in the country at the time of participating in the programme
     
     
    Responsibilities
     
    The objective of the YP Programme is to develop young professionals in the area of public policy research and offer them an opportunity to gain on-the-job experience, expand their knowledge and build professional networks. In the course of the one (1) year programme, Young Professionals are placed in the following Research Departments namely:

    Macroeconomics Department: Macro-modelling for policy analysis;
    Productive Sector Department: Food Security, Nutrition and Food Safety;
    Social Sector Department: Adequacy of Preparation of Learners for the Labour market in the Context of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC);
    Infrastructure and Economic Services Department: Building Smart Cities in Kenya;
    Private Sector Development Department: Harnessing Innovation gains in Kenya;
    Governance Department: State and Non-State justice system to strengthen the rule of law; and
    Trade and Foreign Policy Department: Implications of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on Kenya.

    ILRI Internship

    The Position:
    Internships are short-term academic training for young professionals who join ILRI for a short period (usually 3 months or less but can be up to 6 months in length) as part of their academic curriculum and are expected to resume their studies upon completion of their internship. The internship aims at helping students connect theory to practice, as well as nurturing young minds into livestock agriculture.
    Interns work five days per week under the supervision and mentorship of a staff member in the department or program to which they are assigned.
    Requirements:
    Applicants must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

      Be enrolled for an undergraduate university degree program, with at least one full semester to completion. Through strategic partnerships, ILRI also provides internship opportunities to students enrolled for diploma and certificate programs, as well as senior high school students.
      Proficiency in Microsoft Office
      Proficiency in English.

    Terms of appointment: ILRI offers a stipend to cover living expenses as well as insurance.

    About the programme
    The Formal Internship Programme is the Bank’s structured Internship programme. As an intern, in the summer before your final year as a student, you’ll work directly on real world problems to hone your skills, create lasting relationships and learn about your strengths.  The Formal Internship Programme is intended to create a pipeline to the International Graduate Programme.

    Internships is a 10-week program, depending on location, and are open to candidates who are available to start on our full-time graduate programmes in September 2021.
    Internships typically take place during June – August, depending on location.
    10-week program will involve on-the-job training and an innovation project which exposes you to the inner workings of our business to provide real work experience.

    High performing Interns will be eligible for placement in the Bank’s International Graduate Programme.

    Eligibility

    As Data Support Intern, you will work very closely with the MoH-Kenya (Siaya) team to develop a data dictionary for the project. You will be expected to document the data elements collected during the project implementation with the data types and possible responses to the different fields. You will also be expected to document the changes in the forms and the versioning of the different forms used in the project. You will be part of the Research and Learning team expected to contribute to the documentation that will support Data Science work expected to improve the Medic Mobile products to end-users and Medic Mobile implementing partners.

    Responsibilities: 

    Work with the project deployment team to identify points of project data changes 
    Develop data dictionary for MoH Siaya project highlighting all data fields used in the current project deployment
    Document project data changes highlighting all the current project data fields, retired data fields as well as merged data fields.
    Explore ideas and make suggestions for the best ways to document these data products
    Support in the development of a concept dictionary for the MoH Siaya Project detailing the terminologies used and changes over time.
    Work closely with the Data Science team to identify possible data inconsistencies in the project.
    Work with Project Tech team to create and update on existing form views.

    Education
    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics; equivalent combination of education

    The UN-Habitat Urban Lab: Social Inclusion and Human Rights internship is for 5-6 months depending on the needs of the Organization’
    The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

    Responsibilities
    The intern will work under the direct supervision of an Urban Planning Expert from the Urban Planning, Finance and Economy Section and will assist in development of the social inclusion and human rights agenda activities of the Urban Practices Branch as well as other Sections and units in UN-Habitat. The specific positions offered for the interns are:

    Support the Urban Planning, Finance and Economy Section
    Support the Urban Planning and Design LAB

    The intern will;
    Assist in the definition and implementation of the social inclusion and human rights activities and outputs, such as mainstreaming social inclusion and human rights in the urban planning methodology, development of socially inclusive projects and tools, documentation and evaluation of practice,organization of workshops and meetings and preparation of field missions and scoping missions.

    Support the designated programme (Urban Planning, Finance and Economy Section, Urban Planning and Design Lab) in the mainstreaming social inclusion and human rights in the urban planning and design projects, urban plans, workshops, trainings, Charrettes and different tools to promote more inclusive urban planning and design.
    Assist in the development of social inclusion and human rights in urban planning policy documents, guidelines, information materials, presentations through identification and review of relevant publications and documents, drafting and commenting on documents, and assisting in producing information materials.
    Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
