    Legal and Policy internship

    The Legal and Policy internship is an exciting opportunity for law students and lawyers. We are looking for an individual passionate about human rights, environmental, land and territorial rights, and access to justice. The intern will sharpen their advocacy, research and analytical skills whilst providing the necessary legal and /or policy research and analysis support to the organization and indigenous communities within the Turkana Basin.
    We are specifically looking for an individual who can undertake the following;

    Conduct legal and policy research and analysis of bills moving through County and National Assembly, and the Senate
    Gather and analyze information about priority policy issues.
    Assist in research and analysis of public interest cases within the Turkana basin
    Contribute and produce legal opinions, policy briefs, articles, updates related to FOLT’s thematic areas with a view to aid advocacy and influence policy.
    Contribute to campaigns and advocacy that are built around solid policy analysis.
    Participate in FoLT’s coalition activities with other partners.
    Help to plan legislative engagements.
    Conduct legal research and analysis to inform potential litigation in support of FoLT’s public interest work.
    Provide other support to the team’s policy advocacy efforts.

    Key tasks

    Support in monitoring and analyzing Micro Finance Institutions and independently perform investment-related tasks;
    Conduct desk research regarding country risk, regulatory and competitive environment of local investees as well as potential new markets;
    Support the investment team in portfolio analysis and investors reporting.

    Required Skills And Experience

    Master Degree, preferably in finance, business administration, related field or a similar professional experience;
    Experience in financial modelling is preferred;
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced skills in Excel and Power Point; VBA skill is a plus;

    Reports to: Laboratory Manager
    Job Purpose: To be trained on assisting the Laboratory staff in the operations and coordination of research laboratory activities.
    To report to the lab manager and work under the supervision and guidance of the senior laboratory tech/scientist.
    Responsibilities

    To be trained and perform assays under supervision of a senior trained lab tech in a variety of complex technical tasks in the performance of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in clinical and research activities
    Performs laboratory quality assurance/ quality control practices under supervision of a senior trained lab tech.
    Participates in Quality Control and Quality Improvement for area of specialty and Lab indicators
    Ensures that quality control data are within acceptable ranges before reporting patient results.
    Be trained and perform under supervision on accurately completing records and reports and other statistical information for master files or databases. Follows laboratory policy for data retrieval, record keeping, samples, and identification, requisition, reporting and charting procedures.
    Maintains high level of competence in GCLP, laboratory safety and standard operation procedures
    Maintains a neat, clean and organized work area
    Maintains confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential
    Be trained and participate in Maintaining laboratory equipment as outlined in the various operation SOPs and equipment manuals
    Be trained and participate Develops laboratory standard operating procedures and manuals.

    Qualifications
    Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences
    Experience and Skills

    Must be reliable, self-motivated and self-driven
    Good communication skills
    Strong I.T skills.
    Good knowledge of laboratory operations and procedures.
    Ability to follow detailed instructions.
    Ability to handle multiple tasks.

    Terms of Engagement:
    Appointment in the internship program will be for 6 months. This may be extended for another 6 months depending on performance.
