    Requirements for Appointment

    For appointment to an internship position a candidate must:
    Be a Kenyan citizen not over the age of 35 years
    Be an unemployed graduate from a recognized training institution who has completed a certificate, diploma or a degree course in the last five years or less, in the relevant field.
    Not have benefited from a similar internship program or been exposed to work experience related to their area of study since graduating.
    Not have exited from formal employment.

    Internship Duties and responsibilities
    Duties include, but not limited to:

    Completing duties mutually agreed upon and assigned by the supervisors:
    Documenting relevant skills acquired in their areas of deployment: and
    Actively participating in any relevant mentorship activities and additional responsibilities designed for the programme.

    Duration of internship

    Twelve (12) months Non-renewable

    Stipend

    The Interns will be paid a stipend at a rate as determined by the County Government.

    How can you make a difference? 

    Nutrition knowledge and information management is a key priority in the 2022-2026 Kenya country program geared towards ensuring timely, quality evidence to inform the situation of children, women, and adolescents, program performance, and adjustment based on lessons learned. To achieve this, the UNICEF Kenya country office is seeking the support of an intern to assist the nutrition section team in making the best use of available data and knowledge. The intern will support the nutrition section to identify, organize, and disseminate quality and effective products for varied target audiences including donors, government, and other stakeholders.  

    Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Specialist, the Intern shall perform the following duties:

    Arrange and consolidate information and data from the project staff and relevant national stakeholders for use in communications materials with a particular focus on Nutrition Emergency data.
    Use graphic design skills to design project publications, fact sheets, and leaflets and prepare layouts for documents, reports, and communication materials developed through projects
    Deliver creative non-technical nutrition-related communication materials.
    Contribute to updating reporting schedules, preparing reporting templates, proofreading, and formatting reports.
    Provide logistical support on activities such as the organization and reporting of conferences, events, etc.
    Apply innovative approaches, and digital solutions and promote good practices to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable communications approaches.
    Support the ECD task force secretariat with notetaking, literature, and desk reviews
    Conduct other tasks as assigned

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

    Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in Social Sciences; Planning, Information Communication Technology, computer science, Monitoring & Evaluation, Biostatistics, Communication, or a related technical field.
    Experience in Public health or Nutrition Sector Data analysis and Research and In-country work experience and/or familiarity with emergencies is considered an asset.
    Prior experience in the area of reporting and communication is considered an asset.
    Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
    Fluency in English is required. 
    Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
    Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    Job Requirements        

    Minimum Qualifications

     Fluent in written and spoken English.
     Demonstrate knowledge of Jet Fuel Operations, Flight Planning Procedures and Flight Data Analysis.
     Proficiency in analytical tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
    Jet Fuel Industry and Market Knowledge.

    Minimum Years of Experience 

    At least B plain in KCSE.
    At least 6 months of Flight Dispatch Planning and Operations.
    Jet Fuel Contracting, Pricing and Operations as an added advantage.

    To be eligible to participate in the Internship Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    Be Kenyan citizens
    Be Masters, Bachelors or Diploma students from Commission for University Education (CUE) accredited tertiary level institutions studying courses that are relevant to the above programmes.
    The Masters graduates must have completed or at least finished course work.
    Undergraduates and Diploma students must be in their 3rd or 4th year of study and eligible to undertake industrial attachment/placement, as part of the course requirements. This is to be confirmed by a letter seeking industrial attachment/placement from their academic institution.
    Recently graduated i.e. within the last 12 months and unemployed.

    Background:

    CRS, representing a consortium of international non-governmental organizations, local implementing partners and research institutions is leading the USAID Nawiri Program, a USAID Office of Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) 5-year funded Development Food Security Activity (DFSA) in Kenya. The overarching goal of this multi-sectoral activity is to sustainably reduce persistent levels of acute malnutrition in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) counties of Isiolo and Marsabit.

    Job Purpose:

    The general purpose of the CRS internship program is to provide learning opportunities to young Kenyan graduates while creating a pool of employable persons for both short- and long-term humanitarian aid and development-related careers.
    The internship programme applies to graduates who have completed studies in the relevant field of study within the last two years and willing to commit to the program for six months.
    The intern will be part of the Nawiri health and nutrition team. Their main role is to support the County Department of Health in the provision health and nutrition services. The intern will support the implementation of Nawiri program activities with close supervision and guidance from the County Department of Health Officers and the Nawiri program staff to foster learning and development by the end of the internship period.
    Clear internship objectives will be developed at the beginning of the internship period, assessed, and monitored on a regular basis, and final appraisal conducted at the end of the internship period to ensure that the intern achieves their learning and development objectives. 

    Specific Responsibilities:

    In close consultation with the County Department of Health, the Nawiri SC/Ward Coordinator and the Nawiri consortium partners, the health and nutrition intern will learn while providing support to the implementation of planned health and nutrition activities. These will include:

    Participating in Nawiri weekly activity planning
    Under the guidance of the health worker, he/she will support in nutrition screening, registration, commodity distribution and updating tally sheets and registers during IMAM activities both at the facility and at community level.
    In collaboration with Caritas and the health workers, facilitate smooth delivery of integrated health and nutrition outreaches
    Participate and provide support during community level activities including household visits, Family MUAC monitoring, community dialogues among other activities as guided by the health and nutrition officers.
    Compile activity reports and field visit reports at end the of each activity using standard tools including putting together weekly progress reports
    Participate in team meetings as part of learning
    Any other activities assigned by the line manager

    NAWIRI Health and Nutrition Manager – Concern/Caritas
    Health and Nutrition officers – Concern/Caritas
    Health facility in charge – MOH

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor of Science in Foods Nutrition and Dietetics from Kenyan Universities/Reputable Colleges.
    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    Demonstrated ability to write good reports
    Proficiency in the use of computer applications
    Willingness to learn new things in a rapidly changing context
    Ability to speak at least one local language in Isiolo and Marsabit in addition to English and Kiswahili
    Should be a resident in Isiolo or Marsabit
    Willingness to stay long days in remote field locations
