    Position Summary
    In the role of Start-Up Consultant, you will be responsible for driving our client’s entrepreneurs and businesses in a collective journey towards ultimate business success. You will work closely with the Financial Modeler in developing their financial model and preparing them for an investment. The position is to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
    Key Duties:

    Attracting high-potential and growth-oriented early stage ventures for our client’s programs
    Screening and selection of business applicants, putting together and exciting cohort, including collection of relevant information and data
    Co-facilitating business development and workshops ensuring the successful adoption and use of our client’s methodology and tools
    Execute individualized follow-up with the businesses: during implementation of plans made during the workshops, further assist in the proper adoption and use of our client’s proprietary methodology and tools
    Ensure businesses arrive well-prepared for their business development workshops
    Liaise with the Director of Programs and Lead Facilitator on the progresses of the businesses, including compiling insightful progress reports
    Liaise with the Financial Modeler in the development of business financial models as well as the collection of data relevant to these models
    Reporting and documentation for funders, mentors, investors, and other stakeholders
    Assist in the development of investor presentations for the businesses

    Desired Qualifications and Skills:

    5-8 years of experience in developing businesses, preferably in a senior consultant or business analyst role

    This direct investment arm has recently launched the first Mini-Grid Innovation Lab for Africa, a dedicated research and development fund for testing business model prototypes on mini-grids. Over 600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa still lack access to electricity. The Innovation Lab conservatively estimates that at least 100 million of these people are most cost effectively served by mini-grids today.
    You will lead the Mini-Grid Innovation Lab for Africa work, working with mini-grid developers to identify and test innovative solutions to the business model, through managing an iterative process of piloting and refining ideas. With support from academic institutions, you will analyse the results of pilots and their impact on mini-grid business models and support the dissemination of these results to the rest of the sector.
    Primary responsibilities

    To provide technical Resource Mobilization and consultancy services to the SRCS leadership on the overall strategy and implementation of the SRCS Resource Mobilization Policy and guidelines, which includes the identification of possible Income Generating Activities (IGA), advise on improving current IGAs and developing oversight mechanisms of the organization’s IGAs in line with RCRC best practices and standards.
    TASKS
    In conjunction with the liaison office and the two coordination offices in Mogadishu and Hargeisa, draft the Resource Mobilization policy; review the existing IGA initiatives and recommend improvements; recommend/propose additional initiatives deemed sustainable;
    Present the RM policy and tools to the SRCS leadership for their endorsement.
    The consultant will be specifically tasked to:

    Develop the SRCS RM policy
    Develop standard RM operating procedures to be adopted by the coordination and branch offices
    Review existing RM initiatives and recommend improvements where necessary
    Set up or recommend recording and reporting systems of the IGAs
    Develop a monitoring and oversight mechanism for follow up of the IGAs
    Review the market survey already conducted
    Define and establish guidelines for entering/starting new IGAs

    Design an appraisal system for monitoring the performance of IGAs for sustainability

    Thus, under AVCD, CIP is seeking a consultant to assess socio-economic feasibility of differing types of storage units targeting differing profiles of user:

    Small-scale individual household storage usually 4 to 10 tonne capacity, relies on managing ambient conditions to improve storage conditions giving moderate control of temperature and relative humidity;
    Ambient storage, normally 50 to 100 tonne capacity, relies on managing ambient conditions to improve storage conditions giving moderate control of temperature and relative humidity;
    Cold storage, 500 to 1000 tonne capacity, using power to maintain temperature and relative humidity at a pre-determined level.
    The Consultant will be responsible is to assess the economics of each storage type addressing all costs associated with each storage type, including direct costs and indirect costs, such as potential loss of stored commodity.
    Considering each storage type, the study is to elaborate on:
    Economic feasibility and profit margins at specific time intervals of storage, identifying the assumptions and risks;
    Management models for ambient and cold stores considering group dynamics, differing types of storage services (i.e. warehouse receipts, farmer sells to cooperative who then manages sales and risks), and distribution and utilization of storage returns;
    Feasibility of household and ambient storage for storing marketable quantities of potato considering that a 50 tonne storage unit is sufficient for 2 ha of potato production.

    Qualifications

    In addition they must have excellent technology skills in Free and Open Source GIS and Remote Sensing software such as QGIS, ILWIS, PcRaster, Map Window and GRASS amongst others.
    Knowledge of basic web programming, Google Maps API Family, GeoServer or MapServer, graphic manipulation, is essential for those applying for the Open Web GIS Training.
