    Job Description
    A Trees for the Future (TREES) Assistant Technician (AT) is responsible for aiding in the successful management and implementation of a Forest Garden Project. The AT will work closely with Farmer Groups and individual project farmers, spread out among numerous sub counties within Homabay County.
    S/he is responsible for: helping to coordinate and manage all project activities; liaising with Lead Farmers of each Farmer Group to schedule and facilitate implementation of project activities; Arranging distribution of project tools, planting materials, etc.; organizing and helping to conduct all training activities; and visiting farmers’ Forest Garden sites regularly to provide technical support and to conduct data collection and evaluation.
    Job Responsibilities

    Identify and mobilize Farmer Groups and Lead Farmers for participation in the Project;
    Develop project plans for all participating Farmer Groups that account for all Project activities, material acquisition and distribution, training events, monitoring & evaluation, reporting etc., and effectively manages all activities in accordance with the schedule and Project budget;
    Organize and execute training events pursuant to TREES training program design;
    Communicate with Lead Farmers and participating farmers regularly to organize and accomplish training and extension activities, provide technical support, and collect M&E data;
    Mentor participants and Lead Farmers, through training and regular follow-up support, on TREES technical/best practices;
    Ensure timely data collection and report submissions on all program activities, per TREES reporting requirements and deadlines;
    Manage Project finances according to Project budget;
    Ensure that the Project effectively and efficiently meets milestones and goals per the project scope, timeline, and budget;
    Assist with the development and/or translation of locally appropriate training materials;
    Provides information and accomplish additional tasks in a timely manner as requested by the Lead Technician.

    Qualifications

    Associate’s degree or equivalent, or certificate in relevant field (e.g. agroforestry, forestry, agriculture, etc), OR a minimum of three years of demonstrated degree of achievement in agriculture, preferably in agroforestry and sustainable agriculture (e.g. through demonstrated success and innovation in gardening, forestry, or agroforestry)
    Two years’ experience with field project management
    Demonstrated experience with participatory training facilitation
    Able to be stationed in the appropriate base of the Project site for the duration of the Project
    A valid motorcycle license with a history of safe motorcycle operation (preferable) OR an ability and willingness to potentially take courses and obtain a motorcycle license
    Fluency in spoken and written English and preferably the local language(s)
    Basic computer and smart phone utilization skills

    Six (6) years relevant working experience for the bachelor’s degree or ten (10) years’ experience for the Diploma at a level of Farm Manager or Assistant Farm Manager.
    Assist the Farm Manager in providing technical support services for academic, research, innovations for income generating activities of the farm.

    Details:
    Precision Agriculture for Development, Inc. (PAD) is hiring an Agronomy Associate to support PAD’s operations in Kenya, and to assist in expanding and improving the Ministry of Agriculture’s SMS advisory platform (MoA-INFO) – managed and operated by PAD. MoA-INFO aims to provide high quality agricultural recommendations to smallholder farmers throughout Kenya. The focus on the platform is currently on the Fall Armyworm (FAW) infestation. PAD, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, aims to deliver a wide array of agronomical content to smallholders through the platform, thus adding high quality and impactful content to the platform is an immediate priority.
    PAD was established with a keen eye towards rigorous evaluation and constant experimentation. We aim to provide mobile agricultural extension services but also to rigorously evaluate impact. Each of our programs and partnerships have a strong complement of social science research, ranging from large- and small-scale randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to A/B tests to pilot trials.  Most of PAD’s research projects are led by economists Shawn Cole (Harvard Business School) and Michael Kremer (Harvard University). PAD’s research activities are also supported by affiliated researchers from other institutions and are overseen by PAD’s Boston-based Senior Researcher.

    Responsibilities
    The Kenya Agronomy Associate will be involved in the following tasks:

    Develop SMS messages on a wide variety of different agricultural topics to be added to the MoA-INFO platform.

    The Principal Agriculture Officer is responsible for the origination, processing, supervision and general portfolio management of agriculture, livestock and natural resource management sector projects. He/She is expected to provide specialist advice and inputs to the Bank Group’s operational activities through review of technical design and institutional arrangements for agricultural projects/programmes proposed for Bank’s funding and assessing their feasibility from the perspective of present and future impact In this role, the incumbent interacts closely with other staff members in the following complexes; the Agriculture, Human and Social Development (AHVP), Private Sector, Infrastructure and Industrialization (PIVP); and Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth (PEVP).     Duties and responsibilities

    Business Development and Project Origination:
    In line with the Bank’s Feed Africa Strategy, Country Strategy Papers and Regional Integration Strategy Papers, the incumbent will:
    Provide support to the Regional Member Countries (RMC), and lead/support Bank teams to identify, prepare, appraise and implement agriculture and livestock, agribusiness, agro-industry sub-sector operations projects.

    CNFA is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for Livestock Lead for the USAID Strengthening Agriculture and Regional Resilience (STARR) program that spans across all East African Community (EAC) countries, (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda) and additional countries in East Africa (Zambia, Somalia, Sudan, Djibouti, and Ethiopia).     Position Description
    The Livestock Lead will lead the livestock interventions of this project. In this capacity, s/he is responsible for the overall design, implementation, oversight, and reporting of the activity’s objectives around livestock, including related cross-border trade, inputs, resilience, and policy activities. S/he will work with local partners and conducts regular site visits to ensure effective implementation while coordinating closely with other technical team leaders to increase impact of program interventions.
    This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will include travel throughout the East Africa region.
    Key Qualifications

    Minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing management responsibility in international development projects is required;
    Experience managing donor-funded development projects of a comparable size and scope in developing countries is required;
    Experience in value chain analysis in livestock and meat production systems for quality livestock and meat marketing;
    Proven and demonstrable leadership skills are required;
    Demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining relationships with host governments, donors, other donor-funded projects and stakeholders, local organizations, and private-sector partners is required;
    Experience in Malawi or Sub-Saharan Africa is preferred;

    Coordination of all produce harvesting activities.
    Establishing harvesting projections in line with production/packing plans.
    Providing technical advice to farmers through the field managers.
    Maintaining good relations between farmers and the company
    Training the farmers and extension staff on production requirements and other areas of the quality management and internal control system
    Providing the Management Board with reports on production and other matters as outlined in the IMS
    Managing and implementing the requirements of IMS in compliance to market driven standards.
    Maintaining up to date files of all records and documentation as required by the Olivado IMS.
    Keeping abreast of developments, issues and legislative changes pertaining to the sectors in which audits are carried out.
    Reviewing GlobalGAP, IMO Organic and Fair for Life and other related documentation and advise on areas of improvement.
    Acting as the GlobalGAP Management representative for the company.
    Managing the Olivado Company Limited GlobalGAP and other standards Quality Management System.
    Professional development of field staff and management/technical skills
    Evaluating staff performance
    Coordinate Food and Plant Research project team and to apply research learnings in the field and factory
    Preparation and management of budgets in conjunction with accounts department.

    KEY TASKS

    Degree in business management, agriculture/ horticulture or related discipline.
    Practical skills in personnel management.
    Local working language skills
    Training either as part of formal qualification or by the successful completion of a formal course in: –

    Auditing techniques.
    Food hygiene and safety
    HACCP principles.
    Quality Management Systems
    Pesticides and Fertilizer use.

    At least 3 years’ experience in production of horticultural crops.
    Practical Auditing experience.
    Experience in management of externally certified voluntary standards preferably GlobalGAP, Organic or Fair Trade
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    Exceptional written and oral communication skills
    Proficient in Microsoft applications
    Ability to work proactively and autonomously
    Ability to accurately plan, multi-task and pay attention to details
