    Conservation Managing Director Job Responsibilities
    Perform the duties of secretary to the board
    Provide leadership of the Authority in order to build a competent, efficient and motivated workforce.
    To direct and control the Authority’s operations and give strategic guidance and direction to the board to ensure that the Authority achieves its mission and objectives
    Prepare authority’s annual work plans and monitor progress against these plans to ensure that the Authority attains its objectives as cost effectively and efficiently as possible
    Provide strategic advice and guidance to the chairman and the members of the board, to keep them aware of developments within the Authority and ensure that the appropriate policies are developed to meet the
    Authority’s mission and objectives and to comply with Makueni County Sand Conservation and Utilization Act, 2015.
    Establish and maintain effective working relationship with key stakeholders and partners, including building their capacities to bolster sand and environment conservation activities.
    Coordinate the various sand management activities to ensure effective resource conservation and rational utilization for sustainable yields and improved quality human life in the County.
    Mobilize and monitor the use of finance and human resources for sand conservation and utilization Authority.
    Provide technical assistance to the sub county and ward sand management committees, WRUAs and when necessary to ensure effective management of sand utilization and conservation of sites.
    Ensure rehabilitation of the sand harvested sites and other environmental damages associated with harvesting and transportation of sand within the County
    Carry out licensing and registration of all persons who wish to engage in any sand utilization activities and maintaining such registers as may be necessary.
    Continuously support authority’s operations and administration of Board by advising and informing board members, interfacing between Board and staff, and supporting Board’s performance evaluation.
    Requirements for the Conservation Managing Director Job
    Be a Kenyan citizen.
    A Master’s degree in Natural Resource Management/Environmental Studies, Community Development,
    Project Management, Water Management or its equivalent and other related areas.
    Progressive responsibility and with demonstrated supervisory experience in staff, budget and office management.
    At least 7 years working experience, of which 4 years must be in the management of projects in Natural Resource Management or a related field
    Experience in Results-based project cycle management including monitoring and evaluation methodologies and program budget management;
    Experience in participatory and community based development or Natural Resource management approaches.
    Demonstrated experience in resource mobilization and partnership development.
    Ability to interact effectively with different cadres of people and leadership.
    Good organizational, research, negotiation, analytical capabilities and problem solving skills.
    Ability to identify, obtain and analyze information from variety of sources and make informed decisions.
    Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the constitution of Kenya 2010.
    Good organizational and interpersonal skills
    Basic numeracy and IT skills required for operating various systems.
    Ability to interpret, analyze, and explain the official framework employment regulation.
    Good negotiating and influencing skills in implementing Human Resource Management policies.
    Able to work alone with minimal supervision.
    Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the constitution of Kenya 2010.

    Grains and Horticulture Value Chain Director

    The Grains and Horticulture Value Chain Director is expected to lead the development and management of all interventions across the grain and horticulture value chains, including leading programming on feed production and marketing. This position will be required to lead a team of technical advisors. The location for this position is TBD.
     
    Serve as the senior field-level manager and representative with primary responsibility for coordinating, planning, and implementing technical interventions across the selected grain and horticulture value chains.
    Support the Chief of Party in all aspects of program management including ensuring integration and coordination across consortium teams and the establishment of a “one team” approach to implementation.
    Lead design of program interventions that identify and develop new market opportunities that seek to upgrade the potential of selected grain and horticulture value chains.
    Develop value chain strategies for working with producers and enterprises to develop their capacity to identify and respond to business opportunities in the selected grain and horticulture value chains. These strategies should facilitate private sector engagement and investment among various levels of agriculture value chains including but not limited to producer, trader, processor, and wholesaler levels.
    Ensure that program strategies facilitate strategic, commercially viable partnerships between value chain actors, especially within women and youth.
    Manage a team of technical advisors that provide technical leadership in areas related to improved aggregation, post-harvest handling and storage; market linkages; business enabling environment; and other interventions that promote value chain competitiveness and food security.
    Promote strong relationships with USAID, the Government of Kenya, other donor, multi-lateral, and non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.
    10 years’ international experience with successful value chain development projects with significant management responsibility. Familiarity with grains and horticulture in Kenya is preferred but not required.
    10 years’ experience on projects with similar magnitude and complexity in developing countries.
    Past supervisory experience is required.
    Demonstrated success in implementing projects aimed at increasing the competitiveness and inclusiveness of value chains using facilitation approaches.
    Experience working in or providing capacity building services to the private sector is desired.
    Master’s Degree in a field relevant to agricultural development such as: agricultural economics, marketing, post-harvest handling, agribusiness management or related fields.
    Willingness to travel required. Applicants may be expected to relocate to regional offices depending on solicitation requirements.
    Fluency in English required.

    Responsibilities for the BSF- R&D Assistant Job
    Gain in-depth understanding of the larvae production process by working closely with the BSF production team, analyzing production data, identifying and prioritizing bottlenecks in production, and developing potential solutions.
    Conduct literature reviews and compile relevant references for assigned research projects and related topics.
    Develop research protocols for laboratory and field experiments for feedstock testing, optimization of egg production, hatching and larvae yield.
    Collaborate closely with BSF production team, incorporating feedback into experimental design and provide clear instructions and training on field experiments.
    Follow all safety policies and ensure that the required level of occupational health and safety is observed while conducting experiments.
    Provide reports and regular progress update on experiments following the standard reporting template including data analysis, interpretation and recommendations.
    Take samples and conduct routine laboratory analysis (i.e. moisture, pH, EC, microscopic images) for feedstock, insect samples and end products.
    Record data, follow up on field data collection, laboratory results as well as external results.
    Carry out data entry and analysis, update relevant data sheets accordingly and share results with all relevant stakeholders.
    Close collaboration within BSF team, across teams and with external stakeholders during site visits and research projects.
    Attend all scheduled meetings and company functions as required.
    Undertake other assigned duties and projects as required.
    Requirements for the BSF- R&D Assistant Job
    Minimum of Second Class Upper Division Bachelor’s Degree in Entomology, Biological Sciences,
    Environmental Sciences or equivalent.
    Proficient in all Microsoft Office Applications.
    Basic laboratory skills.
    Knowledge on HACCP, six sigma and DOE will be considered an advantage
    Experience in lab work and conducting research projects.
    Experience in insect rearing is an advantage.
    Demonstrated capacity for self-organization.
    Must be a person with excellent skills in innovation, interpersonal skills, team player and able to work with minimum supervision.
    Detailed orientation and strong in analytical thinking.

    This is a five year programme (2013-2018) that aims at creating viable smallholder coffee farming systems to stimulate the coffee sector in East Africa to regain its vitality and offer long-term business opportunities. 4S@Scale is implemented through a partnership between the Kenya Biogas Program, (KBP) , Sustainable Management Services Limited (SMS) and Coffee management Services (CMS) with technical and financial support from SNV-(Netherlands Development Organization) and the Hivos Foundation respectively.
    Promotion of the dairy value chain among the coffee producers is one of the program activities (anchored on the income diversification activity, Result area 5). Capacity development in the dairy value chain is one of the strategies within the program to increase milk production (quantity as well as quality). It is against this background that the programme seeks to recruit Dairy Coordinators to roll out Biodigester activities in the participating coffee cooperatives.
    The 4S@scale programme in Kenya is looking for two suitable candidates to fill the positions of a Dairy Coordinator(s) to support implementation of the Diary Activities among her clients. The Dairy Coordinator will have a double reporting line to SMS/CMS and to SNV.
    Responsibilities for the Dairy Coordinators Job
    The coordinator will the responsible for promotion of Dairy Value chain activities in 4S@Scale program which entails:-
    Formation of Dairy Common interest Groups (CIGs) in Coffee Cooperatives and manage growth of the CIGs
    Sensitization of the Coffee Cooperative Societies Management Boards on Dairy activities
    Conduct Dairy Training to Promoter Farmers and CIG members including exchange visits/tours on demand basis
    Supervise Dairy activities by Promoter farmers
    Establish and manage fodder demonstration farms
    Conduct practical fodder conservation training sessions
    Facilitate linkages with Service provider Enterprises (SPEs) for silage making on demand basis

    A minimum of Diploma in Agriculture/ Dairy Technology/Animal health or any related field with 3 years’ professional experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture/Animal Science or any related field with 2 years’ professional experience.
    The candidate needs to have a clear understanding of the Dairy Value chain in Kenya working with farmer groups/organizations.
